Diner Reviews
  • "This was a special night. My girlfriend and me had a great evening dining at BOA! Excellent service, we sat in the enclosed outside patio overlooking the ocean and pier.... Great romantic view and energy! While known for its steak, we shared fabulous sea bass, the tuna tartar with sweet salsa, and blonde Baja oysters on the half shell. The food was perfect, the service impeccable, and they treated us to a tasty special seared marshmallow ice cream dessert with Carmel dripped on top!!! Yummy...."

  • "Everyone in my group enjoyed there meal. The steak was amazing and the sides were really good (truffle fries). We enjoyed dessert as well. My niece ordered cotton candy and it was borderline on 12 inches tall and as wide as her plate. The service was great and attentive. We would highly recommend it."

  • "Very pleasant evening. Got there before it got really busy. It was very quiet when we arrived and moderately loud when we left. Food was very good and our server was very very pleasant and attentive. She made for a nice experience."

  • "First timer, I have been to a lot of good steakhouses in the LA area, this place was delicious. Took a date here, her and myself are a bit of a "foodie". We both enjoyed every single plate of food we ordered, wine selection was superb, desert was to die for and even the coffee was awesome. Will be coming back."

  • "The steaks were good, even though the kitchen reversed the cooking instructions on the order. The sides were mediocre. Mashed potatoes were sticky/gluey. Price charged for cocktail was more than the price listed on menu. Atmosphere was loud, chain-like."

  • "Celebrated my husbands birthday here. He had the best meal ever he said. There ceasar salad was the best ever. The filet and lobster was outta this world. And to our suprise a Roman candle lit up the room to wish him a happy birthday. Was the best night out."

  • "Took my girlfriend for her birthday and it was great! We went on a Sunday night which was half off bottle of wine night. Our server was great and knew the menu very well. Food was cooked to perfection. They surpried my girlfriend with a small baked alaskan cake for her special day."

  • "This was my second visit to Boa and it will probably be my last. I am guessing the restaurant figures it will live off the tourists that do not know any better because at this price point I cannot see locals frequenting the restaurant. There are far too many good reastaurants in the area to pay 5 star prices for 3 star food. The steak was good, well cooked and tasty so they've got that going for them but a ceaser salad that was way over spiced and mediocre side dishes just don't do it at these prices."

  • "This was our fourth trip to Boa and it hasn't changed. The bone-in fillet steak is just the best around and I can't get enough of the sweet potato fries. Friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable staff make your visit a very pleasant experience, and to top it all off the wine list is top notch. Did I mention the great view. Thanks Boa I can't wait to visit again when I am next in the USA."

  • "I had one of the best steak dinners at the old BOA in Las Vegas years ago. The Santa Monica BOA did not disappoint and was every bit as good: great steak, excellent service, and the ridiculous roman candle on the birthday desert."

  • "We are transplants from St Louis so I wanted to find an amazing steak place in LA. My friends suggested BOA. At first we were seated at the front but after explaining the occasion (had reserved 2 weeks ahead) were moved to a nicer spot. The wine was fantastic as was the fish. The steak was good, don't get me wrong, but the surf shined more. I like the location b/c of good cocktail places near by. I would recommend for a good all around foodie experience."

  • "We had a large group - 11 Guests and they did an outstanding job of service. So many times great restaurants have a hard time with large group, not Boa. Food came out together, hot and great! Made a special occassion Birthday very special!"

  • "I was pleased to find a table for one was available with only 20 minutes notice! BOA was recommended by co-workers and they were correct. Great food and ambiance, and though I was alone, it was as if I was surrounded at a work party, and had an enjoyable meal and people watching. The Petite Filet is the perfect size for small, but many bites, and the crust was truly yummy. Next time I may ask for it butterflied so I get twice as much crust. Medium Rare is the way to go as well on the Filet. Sides' portion size are huge, and can be shared, hint hint."

  • "The steak was good, not great for the price. The mac and cheese was not good at all. I sent it back because the pasta was too hard. I asked the waiter if I could change the side , but she said she had already put in the mac and cheese order. I guess this place will continue to do great business and charge high prices even with my not so great review. I would not return or recommend."

  • "This was my first time going. I figured it would be nice to go for a Valentines Day Dinner. It was very pleasing. From the hostess to the busboy. Everyone was friendly and sociable. Very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was excellent. The wine list was amazing. I will for sure be going to BOA again real soon."

  • "Overall, my experience at boa is always amazing. Usually I get the steak and lobster tail combo plus couple of cocktails and sides. This time, I decided to get some appetizer such as the seafood tower - I swear as soon as it came to our table, everyone, EVERYONE was looking at the tower going, "wow, how come we didn't order that?" Yeah, it was delicious, just didn't eat the oysters, overall, pretty good. We will come back for the tower and the food again."

  • "Client dinner at the BOA Steakhouse in Santa Monica. This was a last minute event so options were limited. The hostess was inattentive, incompetent and could not make a decision which is a negative in a busy steakhouse filled with tourists. This location has always faltered. The one in Hollywood is as much better dining experience."

  • "really, mixing commercial cheddar with rice does not make "risotto." what it makes is a cheddar/rice congealed glop. also, the flavor of commercial cheddar does not combine well with trout. also, a caesar salad normally has more flavor (i.e. anchovy, garlic) also, vanilla ice cream should not be composed more of ice chunks than of ice cream. why did they feel the need to take a very sugary rendition of a chocolate chip cookie and drizzle it with a very sugary "chocolate" syrup? the best part of the meal was the dinner roll and the butter. the dessert and the "risotto" were left on the plate because they were, for want of a better word, YUCK"

  • "I went for lunch just before they were closing prior to dinner. The restaurant was empty and quiet which was nice for calm overcast afternoon by the beach. This service was wonderful and personal. I felt like I was given the time and space to enjoy my meal, rather rushed out b/c they were closed for the afternoon. It was great!! The food was spectacular. I had the BOA burger medium rare with the awesome garlic kicked cesar salad! It was an awesome lunch treat for me as I kicked off my Dine LA restaurant tour!"

  • "Nice place but didn't quite live up to my expectations. I have a hamburger and fries, which came on a wonderful bun, with camember cheese and fresh tomato. It was a nice burger but at the end of the day still just a hamburger and fries. I prefer Houston's/Hillstone down the street in terms of food and ambiance. I think this is sort of trying to be an upscale Hillstone but it sort of feels similar and the food isn't as good."

  • "BOA is absolutely one of the finest steak houses in LA! Everything about the restaurant is well thought out and executed...sensational food, service and ambiance. Consistently found service at BOA to be personable, professional, friendly and attentive. Oysters were outstanding, wedge salad is awesome, Porterhouse is done perfectly, and their sides and desserts are decadent. Excellent all around five star experience."

  • "PETITE FILET - Perfectly cooked, solid cut, generous rub. RIBEYE - Great flavor to sink your teeth into. BAROLO - Smooth standard. CRAB CAKE - Savory and well fried, but the hearts of palm were the stand out. TABLE SIDE CESEAR - Lovely not too overpowering, could have used a touch more citrus. ASPARAGUS - Delicious as always! MAC & CHEESE - Creamy and gooey :) a little one note, but consistent. I like to add a kick. STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE - Clean, simple and not too sweet. SERVICE - Host accommodated us early on a slow night and our waitress Nina is a delight."
