We have enjoyed dining here over the years but just found out they will be closing on Sunday, March 10, 2013. Too Bad. There are not enough waterfront dining places on this island.

Sunday, March 10th is the final day for BluWater Grill. It has always been the best restaurant for lunch in the world. Of course I haven`t gone to every restaurant, but it was my absolute favorite for lunch in Hawaii - great food, fantastic ambience, outdoor seating overlooking a beautiful lagoon - so relaxing everyone feels like they are on vacation!!!

The food was great. But the service just wasn't there. I know it was on Valentine's night but if it wasn't for the manager taking care of us, it would have been a total wash out. The hostess was gracious enough to seat us promptly and offered to change our seats to indoors since it was very windy and chilly for outdoor seating. Once we sat down though, nobody greeted us or even "watered" us. When the manager seen how discouraged we might have looked, she decided to take care of us. From then on we got great service and salvaged Valentine's night for us.

The Service was just awful, fortunately the Miso-salmon I had and the Mahi my husband had and the Lilikoi Creme Brulee were okay. Food was not hot, and my husband could see the plates sitting and waiting for the waiters/waitress to pick -up. We both discussed our experience,( which was our first), if we would ever go back..the answer was "NO" While we were waiting to get water...we both notice that there were about 7 customers at the front of the restaurant..but no hostess..they stood and waited for about 15 minutes...and then just turned around and left. This was really sad The next day I went to work and my employees asked how was it...before I could say anything ..they said.."Is the service still awful?" I said Yes!

  • Don't Be A Tropical Chain Restaur..
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 1/31/2013
The ambience was fantastic. The fish was very nice, but baked potato was not available for my mother, only pre-made garlic mashed potatoes, and she doesn't like garlic. I ordered a mohito, but as stated on the menu, it was made with a lime sour mixture, instead of pure lime juice, in addition to the rum and muddled mint. It had an artificial flavor that was more reminiscent of tropical chain restaurants than the really refined, yet relaxed restaurant I believe you are on the verge of becoming. I think more emphasis on premium natural foods like baked potatoes and lime that complement your fresh fish and vegetables would be better, including more original desserts with fresh fruit and some ice cream, sherbet or yogurt.Liz from Atlanta

It's rare to find a neighborhood restaurant outside of Waikiki that can still afford to be open for lunch on weekdays. We played hooky form work and celebrated our mutual birthdays and had a fantasic time. The staff was fun-loving yet attentive. The food--as always--consisitently great. Also highly recommended for the outside seating at the Hawaii Kai marina, although it was too windy that day for us. The ducks loved the wind & rain.

The view at this restaurant was awesome! Food excellent, we had fish and salad instead of chips. Fish was coated lightly with Parmesan and melted in you mouth. I'd go back just for the fish! Our waiter was very good and attentive. There were several beautiful ducks that wondered along the property but never both us.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

Reading others' reviews, it seemed to be a hit or miss place. Our visit was a miss. We began with great service and a tasty appetizer (artichoke dip) but it turned into a far-too-long wait for an overcooked Beef Wellington and a could-have-been-better Pork Ribs. Our server ordered a complimentary desert of Lilikoi Creme Brulee for us (one serving for a party of two); however, we had to endure a long wait for that as well. Ended our visit leaving cash to pay the bill so we wouldn't have to wait for a charge receipt. I think slow service from the Kitchen and eventually a frustrated server made our visit a miss. Outdoor ambiance seemed beautiful but maybe not worth the service or the food.

Went on Saturday night had no trouble making a 7:15 reservation at about 3:30 the same day (not a good sign to me) The hostess was rather aloof upon our entry, finishing a conversation with another employee. Server was very good and congenial The drinks were very good, the two separate wine lists were confusing. One was way over priced high end wine The other was very moderately priced mid-level, everyday type wine. The fried calamari was awful I got the Filet, it came out as two medallions instead if an 8 oz as listed My wife got the grilled Mahi mahi both entrees had great side dishes All was good, not great, our comment was that it would be a good place to have lunch on the outdoor patio.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

We were seated outside on the lanai with a beautiful view of the marina. It was very peaceful and quiet so we enjoyed our dining in a quiet environment with the ducks. They never bothered us; just walked by every once in awhile. My fish was good. The rack of lamb came too rare so was sent back. It came back kind of charred which spoiled the taste.

The coconut shrimp was fantastic, also the outside seating next to the lagoon is really relaxing and Mike the server was one of the best I've seen. I only had a small problem with the bacon cheeseburger, the bun was not very good and totally fell apart, so I had too eat the burger with a fork. If they use a better gourmet buns, than everything would have been 5 stars across the board.

Our Parisian friends came in 2006 and we dined at BluWater Grill. We wanted to recreate the experience this time around when our friends arrived 6 years later. The restaurant honored our request for an outdoor table. We had a spectacular view of the waterways. We watched the sunset, dined under a full moon and had the most wonderful meal. I always order my favorite which is the seafood pasta. It tasted better than ever! We ordered the dessert sampler to end our meal. The key lime pie was outstanding--very mild...not too tart. The banana lumpias were fanatastic. Needless to say, our Parisian visitors had the most wonderful time. Oh, and we loved the live Hawaiian music. That really made our visit extra special! Thank you!!!

This is a great restaurant. But the service can be slow. We waited 30 minutes with a reservation although the restaurant was not full, Too bad the bar area is so small. Id suggest NEXt time have bread and water already there after a wait Bar service was slow, and when we did finally get served, 1/2 the people we served cold food. I know a large group is hard to get it all out right, but really cold food at these prices. But at this point we were so hungry. The waitress was very nice and did her best. I love this restaurant. but when you spend $300 for dinner better service or discounts when you know the service is not good is expected

Service was great. Food was good but I feel that it should have been better. I got the sushi tower and the tuna tasted a little fishy. The garlic mash potatoes were bland. Iover all I would go again but I think that they need to do a little better with tastes if you want to compare this to the mainland. Very nice scenic view of the water, it would a good place to go for a special occasion.

Started with drinks and an appetizer. Had the ribeye steak, medium rare. This usually is a warm pink center with a little red. The first problem is the cut. I'm not sure what they served me, but I can tell you it was not a ribeye. Maybe top sirloin. It was less than 1/2" thick and way over cooked. No seasoning that I could tell. The side items were cold. The garlic mashed potatoes were more garlic than potatoes, the veggies were dripping in what tasted like old frying pan oil. My dining partner enjoyed the scallops although her food was cold too. Our server didn't check on us until 15 minutes into the meal. Seemed a moot point to complain, so we didn't. I will say that the seafood artichoke dip is very good.
