My friend from Australia was visiting and we had a short time for lunch and for our visit. They gave us a very nice table and did not rush us even though this is in the financial district and it was pact with people during the lunch hour. Our food was deliicious ( I had the Tuesday special chicken sandwich andshe had the filet mignon) and the service could not have been any better! Looking forward to my return

We arrived around 3:05 for our 3pm reservation -- first time there. I could tell we came in during transition of service, as most of the staff were maybe management. As we were on a time constraint, we immediately ordered our meal after being seated for 10mins. After about another 10mins, our starters/apps came out. Then there was an odd lag for our entrees of the lamb meatballs, salmon and fries -- we finally received them around 356p after I flagged our server to check on our food, as I needed to get to work. Food tasted good, but I didn't get enjoy it as I was already late and hungry. The server comp'd our salad and fries, but I would've appreciated a status update on why our entrees took so long more.

Chose this place for the scenery and the downtown location, menu looked good. Once there staff, was very friendly, professional, and accommodating. Food was great, and portions were substantial. Prices were average and ambiance was very San Francisco. A very pleasant experience.

We went with a group of 13, you would have thought they'd show us some attention. Instead, it too 30 minutes for drinks to arrive, 1:30 for appetizers, another hour for food, and we were basically scoffed at when we asked for bread in the middle of all that waiting. Ask where the food is, get a snarky, "it's cooking".. Then wait another hour. Have plans after dinner? Better abandon them. Want great food for a reasonable price? Look elsewhere. Want good food at a high price with horrible service? This is your spot!

The prices were moderate, I paid 36 for a nice sized prime rib which was perfectly done. Considering the decor, wine list, and the quality of the food I would have expected a much pricier dinner! Also try the cauliflower side. It was phenomenal!

I was very impressed with the staff, the food and the ambience at Bluestem. Coming there with a group of 13, I did not expect to be able to visit with everyone. The Racher's table (big round table by window) was absolutely perfect for our group. I was able to see everyone and we could converse pretty easily. The noise wasn't too loud in the restaurant. I wish I would have remembered our server's name because he was wonderful. The food was all amazing too. We had a lot of the items on the menu, both appetizer and entrees, and they were all very good. I was so happy with this visit!

If like us you are looking for a great place near Union Square, look no further. My wife had the croque madam; one of her favorite brunch staples. I had a half dozen prefectly fresh oysters and the salumi and charcuterie plate; all house made. Excellent. Our server Ryan was timely but never obtrusive. Great cocktails (try the sparkler with watermellon and basil), their take on a billini. Nice wine by the glass list as well.

We had already tasted some of Chef Fran's work the previous week so we had pretty high expectations for the ingenuity of pairing, the flavors, seasoning and the overall quality of the food. Even still we were both surprised and delighted by what we had. The ribs were exceptional, seducing us into eating them with our hands, despite how classy a place it is. They were accompanied by a melon fruit salad that had us guessing the delectable spices used, and a biscuit that had us leaning back in our seats relishing its deep savory flavor. The lamb meatballs were even better than we expected. To anyone going: get them, it'll be the best decision you make all week.

Bluestem my fav restaurant when in the city. Eva is my fav server at Blue. There were two of us, and my companion ordered the NY steak, which was tough, chewy and gristly. Adam the mgr enthusiastically removed it from our tab. Great hands on mgmt and service, everyone hits their marks including the guy that refills your water, and picks up plates……5 star all the way.

We came here for a team dinner/celebration midweek. The food was high quality and unique enough to make a trip here worth it. The waitstaff was nice and not overbearing. Our group was fairly large (about 15). Everyone enjoyed the truffle fries (suggested by the wait staff), and their entrees, but it was dessert that really shined. The caramel rum beignets were the best!

We have been to Bluestem once before, but the occasion was more formal than the simple lunch we had this time. We were greeted by very pleasant and knowledgeable people, one of whom recognized us from the last time, several months ago, and were given a table exactly where we requested one. The food was excellent, as before. The place appeals to a younger crowd, but the noise level is quite low nonetheless. Excellent!

The food was interesting, beautifully presented and tasty. The place itself it lovely. The service could use some improvement. We both had filet mignon and their kennebec fries. Perfectly done, no complaints with the food. Service was fairly quick and good-natured. The menu is a little on the "foodie" side for our tastes, lots of things I had to google on my phone. We really liked that we were seated in the upper area next to the balcony barrier, so we could see the bar area. It also meant there weren't many tables near us, which was great. Not sure we'd have enjoyed it as much if we were seated below, where it was crowded and noisier.

Our first visit to this very stylish spot we sat at the large oblong table in the window for a family brunch. The food was very good, and our server was awesome!! We returned to try it for dinner. The food was very good, and the service was OK based on the fact that I felt we were rushed even though I had communicated that our dinner out was for a special occasion. It left me a little unhappy.

New place recommended by our hotel conceirge was a real surprise. Seated on time, great menu, servce and food. I would definitely recommend it, and return myself the next time I'm in downtown San Francisco. The first floor is the quiet fine dining section; the second more noisier bar area and finally outside dining on the third floor, in case SF is ever warm enough to eat outside. (We only experienced the first floor.)

I had the pasta special - a carbonara with an egg on it. It arrived cold with too much sauce. I ate it but did not love it. My friend had an eggplant sandwich that she had to completely deconstruct to eat. My server although polite was somewhat condescending and I found her annoying and did not enjoy her visits to the table. This was not my best visit to this lovely room.

They even sent out the most delicious decadent chocolate cake on the house with a candle for her to blow out. Ate here for both dinner and lunch and found the service and food uniformly excellent. Service was quick and efficient; there when you needed it, but not hovering or intrusive. Food was interesting (duck confit salad with fried duck egg was fabulous as was the fried green tomato salad) and the wine list more than adequate. Situated on Market, between 3d and 4th, is has easy access to hotels and Moscone. Good food, nice atmosphere, attentive service, and a great location combined with pricing that is reasonable and the place comes up a winner.
