Delicious and can't remember the last time that was a menu item. The owner stopped by our table and chatted with us for a bit. That was very unexpected also. From the moment we went into Bluestem Brasserie to the moment we left, we enjoyed every aspect. The maitre d' moved our reservation up very graciously. The menu has a lively, almost self-deprecating tone, very refreshing after so many restaurants that take themselves too seriously. Our waiter was a gem, understanding our need to share dishes, providing us with fresh plates for that purpose, refilling our water glasses frequently. My only complaint is that we were never offered ice in our water on a very hot day. However, a minor glitch in a very delightful lunch experience.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat if you are not in a hurryA friend from out of town was staying at the Marriot Hotel, and this was the conveniently located restaurant my wife and I chose to take her to. We knew we would have about 2 hours to visit with her, and that worked out well, because that is about how long it took us to have appetizers, a main course, and dinner. The restaurant was noisy but not too noisy for nice conversation, and it was a very comfortable place to enjoy each other's company. The food was excellent, prices reasonable, and the service was attentive, though, as I said, slow. They all expressed how much they liked the food and the setting. Our waiter, Sean, was very accomodating and helpful.
As we left, they all thanked me for organizing our lunch at such a great place. Our waitor was very knowlegable on the menu and drinks offered which helped us make diner and drink choices. We received our drinks and food in a timely manor and they were all very good good. I was a little unhappy with the flavoring of the artichoke on my dish and the flavoring of the duck that my boyfriend got, however everything else was delicious. We ordered 2 of the 3 fish dish offerings and loved them both. The menu was different with lots of interesting choices. The menu doesnt have a large selection and the dishes are unique, so you need to check it out before you go. The service and decor are top notch. We had a large group of 12, and everyone found something they enjoyed. The prices average for SF, though the portions are not large; so dont expect to fill up unless you really want to spend some extra money on the appetizers... The filet mignon is outstanding, but certainly not a true 8oz. All of the fish dishes were flavorfull and cooked perfectly. Short ribs and egg noodle special for monday was very good; and one person tried the burger, and loved it. Not only was the food perfection far and away the service was spectacular. Table visits from their management topped the night. Originally, the reservation was for 12, but there was actually 13 in our party; the hostess, Angelica was very nice and accommodated us without hesitation. Our waiter, Sean, was the best! He took the time to explain the menu and their specials, answered everyone's Q&A's calmly and unhurried, and even made the effort to assure that my husband enjoyed his alcoholic mixed drink (if he didn't like it, then Sean would gladly exchange it for him). Everything was great: from the service, to the appetizers, to the dinners (see menu). The wine & champagne was superb as well!
