A word from Bluehour
Bluehour means different things to different people. In French literature it describes any time of day "of heightened emotion." In Portland it has come to mean "a great place to dine."

As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual café and bar.

Surprising and delicious describes the Modern Northwest cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, so come in and enjoy Chef Kyo Koo's seasonally inspired menu.

It took us 18 minutes after being seated, and a request from a dashing waiter, to order drinks and another 15 minutes to receive them. Every step was in our meal was slow, and the wait staff never had time to linger. I don't know if they were short handed, but I do know that the evening did not feel special. At the price point, we expect more.

We were mildly disappointed with our meals since we had such a great experience in the past. There were several large groups at the dining room that probably stressed the kitchen. We had risotto and pasta dishes. No one got to the expected level that this restaurant delivered in the past.

We hadn't eaten at Bluehour in over twelve years and were pleasantly surprised. The feel of the room is so embracing that you almost feel you are being hugged by the all the flowing drapes. Very nice feeling on a cold night. Our reservation was at the dinner hour on a Friday evening and the restaruant and bar were packed. We were seated immediately. Our server, Bret P. had a few large parties in his station and was able to serve them and at the same time take very good care of us. We felt we were his only table. He was quite exceptional. Our meals, Duck and Salmon, were excellent as was the Crab Bisque. For such an elegant restaurant with superb service and great food, we found the prices to be very reasonable. We will definitely return.

The entrees were delicious but very small and over priced. The plate consisted of the meat and 2 tiny fingerling potatoes. The men in the group were not satisfied and had to get a snack on our way to our next destination. The service however was top notch. Very helpful and informative.

We bought the Amazon Certificate special for Blue Hour. We had visited during the Portland Dining Month and really enjoyed our meal, so going back for this was very easy. All the service was outstanding! Our server, David was all ease and accommodation. Our pre-set meal was perfect from the opening tidbit to the dessert. The best part is that we still have a gift certificate to return with. We're looking forward to getting to the bar for Happy Hour!

We had dinner here on Halloween night. The friendly staff were a hoot in costume and seemed very relaxed out of their usual black and white uniforms. The duck breast with sausage and flat iron steak were fabulous as was our steak tartare starter. One of the most delicious, memorable meals in a while.

1st time at Blue Hour and so impressed that we will be back! Service discreet, friendly, fun and knowledgeable. Decor minimal and elegant. Good wine selection, value for money, food beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Smoked duck with ginger sausage particularly good as was the apple cheesecake. No feeling of being rushed and able to take over 3 hours for dinner. A great evening all round.

I love leisurely dinners and really dislike feeling like I am being rushed through the courses but too much time elapsed between courses here. we had a cheese plate, salad, and entrée and were there at least two hours. we skipped dessert because we needed some fresh air. we also had to wait too long to get our first drink and a subsequent drink. I would give it another try because the food was good but I am not anxious to do that soon.

Salads were arranged artistically so that the food was also for eyes. Oysters were splendid and at the end everything was gone. No room for dessert.

Picked blue hour for our one year anniversary dinner. Dinner set menu with wine pairing was amazing, highly recommended! Ambiance was nice, lots of romantic couples enjoying a fine dining experience. Huge negative was the large tables interspersed with the small ones with large boisterous parties. Obviously drunk and over served, management made no real effort to get rid of them or quiet them.

These guys have really lost the plot! Bluehour used to be a great place, today its terrible! the new chef needs to find a new cookbook! It took over 2 hours to get our meal, complaining did absolutely nothing. The hostess was clearly out of her realm, nowhere near the quality Bluehour and other Carey run restaurants usually have. The Manager (geez!) where did they find this guy. When our food finally did come, my lamb chops (all two of them) were the size of quarters. I had the foie gras as a starter, presentation was terrible, almost no thought went into that dish. It seems the new mantra is serve little and charge more! Take Bluehour off your list, there are plenty of other really good restaurants in Portland.

When I ate at Bluehour, the people at the front desk were nice and welcoming, the server was kind of awkward and seemed to be the type that stared into your soul with every word and never seemed interested in anything we had to say and the guy filling our water glass seemed scared out of his mind, but once the food arrived it was immediately five star in my mind. It was the best pork steak I had ever eaten and the most perfectly done flank of salmon. Everything from the main course to amazing desert was well above even my highest expectations and the bill reflected the taste. It's not somewhere I could go every night, but for a nice night on the town or for a celebration, it's the perfect place.

Bluehour is in beautiful space, and a bit more formal and a bit more pricey than the norm for Portland. In most places, I'd call Bluehour a winner-- the food was very good. But "very good" in Portland is like being a smart kid at Princeton; this is a foodie town, and Bluehour is going to be graded against its nearby competition. Is it as good as, say, Park Kitchen? Or Paley's Place? Or Imperial? Or Little Birds? It doesn't take anything away from Bluehour to say "they're not quite as good as the best in Portland". I'd go there again, for the space. If you've got a group of grownups, and wanted someplace a bit quieter and more formal than the norm, Bluehour will be a good choice.

Nice atmosphere, great waiter. Okay, food was a mixed review. I loved my pork loin-the most tender ever. Delicious! My husband had the salmon. Portion on the small side and he said it was "average" as to taste. He had an appetizer that was corn based and it wasn't good. On the plus side, the waiter was very nice and the restaurant was nicely appointed. I would try it again. I think it's about what you order.

We ate here on a trip to the Pacific Northwest. We decided to give it a try because it had a 1000 points reservation time and I didn't know any better. Well it was soon worth it. We had one of the best meals we have ever had. The food was interesting and flavorful without being weird. Our waiter was great, even recommending a local mural attraction for us to drive around and see. He said that the chef was new and I would say he was a great choice. Also the drink menu was creative and fun. I can go on forever, but in essence, just go here, you won't regret it.

What a great big nothing. Three of us dined. My wife and granddaughter had seared Ahi as their main course. Both servings were improperly cooked.....the outer 1/2 of the fish was white and in inner was closer to what it should look like. It was apparent that the cook had no idea about preparing seared fish. I started with the cauliflower appetizer which was tasteless and soggy. My main was a very bland piece of chicken.

BlueHour is usually a hopping place, so it was an unusual night with the room 2/3 empty, but the service was excellent, as always, and the food good. It's getting very "French" in its portion sizes (i.e. quite small), which is fine with me but perhaps not everyone. My only complaint is that the air conditioning was turned to 11, and because no one else was there, it was freezing.

With its gorgeous dining room Blue Hour has always been a place we take visitors but didn't make it into our regular rotation with their small portions and spotty service. That seems to have all changed since we had a two delectable entrees (pork chop and chicken) that were perfectly prepared with inventive but filling sides and the prices more reasonable than I remember. We'll definitely be back and not just once or twice a year.

Much to my surprise and disappointment, my ribeye was charred to a crisp on one side, which detracted considerably from an otherwise pleasant enough evening.
