A word from Bluehour
Bluehour means different things to different people. In French literature it describes any time of day "of heightened emotion." In Portland it has come to mean "a great place to dine."

As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual café and bar.

Surprising and delicious describes the Modern Northwest cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, so come in and enjoy Chef Kyo Koo's seasonally inspired menu.

My husband and I took advantage of Portland Dining Month. For $29 per person, we had roasted beet salad as a appetizer, beef short ribs as a main course and chocolate panna cotta for dessert. Before our meal began, we had a "chef tasting" consisting of a fried potato chip with a quenelle of brandade (cod) mousse, a nice treat. Each course was wonderful! The size of the main course was perfect for me, but a little small for my husband, who made up for it with 3 helpings of their wonderful dinner rolls. Service was impeccable and we were able to sit for several minutes after our meal instead of being rushed out the door with a check. We would definitely eat here again and bring friends.

We tried Blue Hour as part of Portland Dining Month. The restaurant is one of the city's few fine dining establishments. The food was excellent. Our server, Chris, was knowledgeable and very friendly. The wine list is extensive -- 2 pages of Oregon pinot noirs alone! With higher prices than most places in Portland, this isn't an everyday dinner kind of place, but it is perfect for special occasions.

Bluehour is reliably elegant, reliably creative, well prepared and presented food, friendly service - formal for a big night out, but not stuffy. Like the wonderful place it is, great for an impressive dinner or an I'm tired, I just need a salad evening. Prices definitely within reach or to impress your guest. Lots of regulars, many young people, some families, and grey hairs, too.

Was seated promptly and placed drink order right away. Had to wait for drinks to arrive and decide to place dinner order due to the time it took to receive our drinks. Waited for just over 45 minutes for our dinner to arrive, but what was disappointing was that tables around us that arrived after us received not only their appetizers but also their dinner before we received just our dinner. the waiters advised us that they had gotten behind but could not explain why we had to wait over those around us. What made matters worse was that when our desserts arrived mine was missing a component and the answer to this was that they had trainee's in back. They did comp us 2 drinks but that did little to make good on they overall poor service.

Bluehour is a fine restaurant with a beautiful interior. The menu needs some changes, it needs to be more inventive and expanded. I had a difficult time deciding what to order. My dinner was very good, just not that creative. Portland has so many great restaurants, expectations are pretty high.

So Bluehour isn't this week's "It" spot; that just means not having to wait three weeks to get a table. The food is interesting and well done, the ambience above average, the service spot-on, and the wine list overflows with Europe's finest. We dined from the Winter menu, starting with the tasty (but chewy) quail (think hipster wings), followed by a complex citrus and roast beet salad. For entrees, we had the grouper (perfectly cooked with a light crust, served over beluga lentils with cauliflower puree) and the amazing lamachine (with lobster, calamari, and sole). A generous plate of surprisingly good, house-made chocolates and petit fours (with mini-milkshake) and a tasty citrus sorbet with coconut macaroon brought the evening to a close.

I enjoyed having dinner at the Bluhour with friends, but I think that the portion of food was not generous at all. If one is hungry, this is not the restaurant you want to choose. You will be fine if you eat something before you dine out at the Bluehours. Food is very good though. I think that restaurant can offer more bread too.

At our recent trip to Portland it was a rare snowy weekend and everything we had come to the city to do was canceled (meeting cancelled, music show canceled) So we were lucky that BlueHour was open and provided a dinner worth traveling to the city for. We had a great night after a delicious meal. The meal was great. The Waiter experienced, friendly and professional ( come to think of it I should have tipped him more...) I rarely get dessert, but did that night and must say the panna cotta was something out of this world :-)

Went for dinner at Bluehour. The ambiance is beautiful and waitstaff very attentive. However the food is horrible. Very beautifully presented but lacking in taste. Understand the menu is revolving. Had wagyu beef with lobster tail as a main. The beef was tough and completely tasteless. Wagyu as a tough piece of steak is such a waste. Lobster was just ok. The portions are fair for a restaurant of that level. Cheese trio for dessert, fair and nothing spectacular. Just fodder, nothing special. But if going for presentation, Bluehour is certainly gorgeous.

We came to Bluehour at 5:45 on a Tuesday. The bar area was packed with people doing happy hour, which added a nice vibe to the place. The dining room had a lot of people who looked like they were on business dinners. The decor was really impressive. We had the calamari and shortribs for appetizers and the gnocci and monkfish for entrees. All of the food was well prepared and presented and the taste was excellent. Service was attentive without being too intrusive. The prices were a bit high and the portions were fair but a bit on the small side, but this is similar to what I have experienced with other restaurants of this quality.

Our waiter was civil, no more, no less; he had no friendliness or enthusiasm; the person who brought our amuse bouche did not know what it was when we asked; the server who brought our dishes served the wrong dishes to the wrong people and we had to correct; ask; empty cocktail glasses were not removed; my mom's soup did not arrive with the other 1st courses and we had to find the manager to inquire; the women's orders were not taken 1st before the gentlemen's; The music was too loud, with an insistent, drumming beat that drove us crazy.

We went to Bluehour for the first time to celebrate my birthday. I figured I'd try it because it was a 1,000 pt. restaurant. What a wonderful surprise. We were seated promptly with a lovely table by the window. We began our evening with Manhattans -- the bartender really knew how to make a good one. For appetizers my husband had the steak tartare which he said was some of the best he's ever eaten. I had a cheese plate which was not only delicious, but the presentation was especially nice. We both ordered the petrel sole which was absolutely wonderful -- they even substituted fingerling potatoes for the rice on my plate. We had a chocolate dessert which was complimentary for my birthday.

We have dined at Bluehour several times but have never had such slow service for dinner. We do love the food, although I must say this time the portions seemed a little meager but I didn't need any more than I was served. However, had I been very hungry, I might have felt it was skimpy. The time between our salads and entrees was incredibly long. Our server came by twice to tell us it would be just a couple of minutes and finally came to say there was a mistake in the kitchen. To their credit, they took our appetizers and two glasses of wine off the bill but it still was a long evening .Love the food, had a very nice server but there are just too many other options in the Pearl.

Been going here on and off ever since it opened. They have upped their game yet again over the past two years. Recent visit with group of 4 was even better than ever. Food is just nothing short of consistently delicious and service is equally outstanding. They have more competition than they did when they started but are equal to it. Unfortunately, this has probably decreased their market share and, since the room is so large, it can sometimes feel a bit empty. This place was, and remains first class.
