A word from Bluehour
Bluehour means different things to different people. In French literature it describes any time of day "of heightened emotion." In Portland it has come to mean "a great place to dine."

As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual café and bar.

Surprising and delicious describes the Modern Northwest cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, so come in and enjoy Chef Kyo Koo's seasonally inspired menu.

We celebrated our anniversary at Bluehour on a Saturday night. It was a busy evening but the service was attentive and friendly. The food was exquisite and the portions large for a haute-cuisine restaurant. The drapes and the candlelight created a dramatic yet soft ambiance, and we really enjoyed the selection of music. An all-around stellar evening.

There is nothing wrong about bluehour, but nothing impressive either. The decoration looks better on pictures, in reality, the wall deco is a bit worn out. Dont give one the feeling of a super upscale restaurant. We had brunch, the food is decent, and tasty, but nothing really special for special occassion. A place without many characters in general. With the price tag, I will be looking for something more interesting.

The Bluehour experience was wonderful. We had reserved a table for three, and we were seated immediately. The waiter was respectful, charming, and understood our need for conversation time. We were served at a perfect pace which allowed us the enjoy the whole experience. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. Bluehour breaks the bank for sure, but when that special occasion pops up...it's worth every single penny. Closest thing to Four Seasons here in our small town Portland.

Small portions and overpriced. The asparagus flan was awful! Service was good. I consider this one of those "trendy" places - to see or be seen. If one is interested in superb dining, I suggest Paley's Place or the Heathman. Of the high end restaurants, I consider this 2nd or 3rd tier.

Less impressive than I would have expected. Service was very slow for our little table of two, compared to those tables of 4 or more. They screwed up our bill - billed us for $53 of things we didn't order, including one appetizer that was brought to us that we didn't order. After having it corrected partially, we gave up and just paid the remaining overcharges.

I had requested a window table as this was a special event lunch which I also indicated on the request. While some window tables were avaiable,as I had to park the car, when I came in I saw the rest of the party had been seated at a table in the middle of the room - too late to move but would have appreciated being seated where requested when I made the reservation. It would also have been nice if the special occasion which I outlined in the reservation would have at least been verbally acknowledged. Those customer service touches can differentiate your restaurant and would be appreciated by all your customers, even those who come in for the first time who would be more likely to then return.

Our experience would have been given a far higher rating except for the fact that we waited well over an hour between appetizer and entree. The waiter was apologetic and told us the kitchen was backed up. There were several large pre-prom dinner groups so that may have been the problem. With enough complaining, we received a $50. gift certificate (that we used on that evening's bill) and free desserts. Nevertheless, this was not handled very well. We sat for 45 minutes without any information or apology and when it was obvious that our meals were not yet forthcoming, we think the restaurant manager should have been talking to us rather than the waiter. We've dined at Blue Hour before and were very disappointed this time.

It was brunch - Mother's Day no less. Not much was expected. The food was excellent. My plate, a pastrami hash, was outstanding. The cost of the meal was, dare I say, low, considering the quality and presentation of the food and beverages. Service was poor, however, despite our being there at an early hour so that there was no issue of being overcrowded: forgotten order, unrequested order, forgotten beverage.

Everytime we go to Portland we make it a point to eat at Bluehour. As always the food was fantastic! Only problem was that this time we were seated close to the bar so it was a little noisy. They did pull the curtain to separate the bar from us but it was still pretty loud. They did what they could. This has never been an issue before. We love this place! Food, service and whole experience is worth returning for again and again!

Hadn't been to Bluehour in over a year or more (I am in portland for work nearly every week) - the wine list had greatly improved since my last visit and felt that the food and service were back to where it was during prior visits when first opened. Pearl Dist restaurants tend to look the same (with the same service and attitude) to me and so Olea, Ten01, Fenouil, Oba, Andina, Paragon, Park Kitchen, etc. blend in with Bluehour - when I ask my teams where they want to go - we usually end up at VQ which is a wide margin favorite of my teams and clients...and not in the trendy Pearl at all...

We are from out of town (Canada) and ate at Bluehour for my dad's 65 birthday celebration. The place was pretty much perfect! Excellent service (lots of little touches that made us feel special), fantastic atmosphere and great food & wine. We weren't in a hurry which was good, though, because the service was quite slow. I love the bluehour, and brought a friend for a birthday celebration- made the reseravtion quite awhile back, only to find out about a pink, white and blue event . we felt rushed, as our rez was at 8:00, but we did not get seated until 8:40! everyone was very kind and did their best to mitigate the situation, but I know the difference between a relaxed and unobtrusive bluehour experience. also, the entire time, as each tabel cleared out, the buzz of activity to set the 'stage' and tables for the venet was very disturbing.

My husband and I are regulars and this is one of our favorite restaurants in Portland. We usually request Mike who is charming and always provides excellent service and great recommendations. The new sommelier gave us a very nice recommendation on the wine and we enjoyed it. We did notice that the menu had changed and it seemed like the food was not as good as it typically is, so that was a bit disappointing. My risotto was too "tomatoey" and my husband got an upset stomach from the lamb entree. This was unusual because Bluehour can typically be counted on for consistently good food and great service.

Although we liked Bluehour and the food was generally quite good, the steak did not have much flavor and the meal with drinks was very expensive. We probably won't go back because there are other downtown restaurants with equally fresh, local and tasty recipes, excellent service and well-mixed coctails but the overall cost is less expensive by about 25%.
