A word from Bluehour
Bluehour means different things to different people. In French literature it describes any time of day "of heightened emotion." In Portland it has come to mean "a great place to dine."

As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual café and bar.

Simple, delicious and classic describes the Mediterranean cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, but Bluehour standards remain, like the pillowy potato gnocchi with black truffle and the perfectly seared, bacon wrapped sea scallops. Our cheese cart is among the finest on the West Coast, featuring regional and international artisan cheeses.

  • "We started with cocktails, which were very well prepared. For appetizers, we shared a dozen oysters, which were perfect. My colleague had the foie gras, and I had the cauliflower salad. We raved about them. For entrees, we had the black cod and the salmon. Both were cooked perfectly with nice flavor components. Prior to dessert, we had a cheese course of mild cheeses, which were all fantastic. For dessert, we had a sorbet and the creme brulee. Overall, the meal was very satisfying and provided an excellent venue for a business dinner."

  • "Some elegant touches and a hit and miss menu. Lamb dish was tasty but the meat was tough, vegetables were cool by the time they reached the table, halibut dish was enjoyed by my companion. My second not so good experience at this group of restaurants. For their prices they should be better in the food department. Drinks(slow to arrive), wine and service, was better than 23Hoyt."

For somewhere that sells itself as a fine dining option I expected something more. I would go again but probably only for pupus - wine and the cheese board (where there was a really good selection)."

  • "There was nothing particularly objectionable to our experience at Bluehour but there was also nothing particularly great about it. On a Thursday evening we found the service to be seriously sub-par for a restaurant that wants to be considered a contender on the Portland fine dining scene. Cocktail glasses remained empty and on the table until we were half way through the entree. After the diner was served no one stopped by to see if everything was to our liking or if there was anything we needed. The food was fine but hardly outstanding. So would we be likely to come again or recommend Bluehour? Probably not. With so many great restaurants in this city why would you settle for just okay when you're hoping for great?"

Two people should plan to spend at least 70$ on just food, with no drinks. The menu items are not creative and affordable."

  • "Service was incredibly good and attentive, but not overly so. Three of us had dinner. I had the sturgeon, my wife had pasta and my daughter had the 3 course Portland Dining meal which was built around pork short ribs. The pork was excellent and the presnetation nice. Sturgeon, while good, was not as good as what i had a few weeks ago at Ringside Fish house. And this will probably sound strange, but the crab pasta actually had too much crab. It was an overwhelming flavor that did not allow anything else to come through. Desserts were very good."

  • "My husband and I took advantage of Portland Dining Month. For $29 per person, we had roasted beet salad as a appetizer, beef short ribs as a main course and chocolate panna cotta for dessert. Before our meal began, we had a "chef tasting" consisting of a fried potato chip with a quenelle of brandade (cod) mousse, a nice treat. Each course was wonderful! The size of the main course was perfect for me, but a little small for my husband, who made up for it with 3 helpings of their wonderful dinner rolls. Service was impeccable and we were able to sit for several minutes after our meal instead of being rushed out the door with a check. We would definitely eat here again and bring friends."

Our server, Chris, was knowledgeable and very friendly. The wine list is extensive -- 2 pages of Oregon pinot noirs alone! With higher prices than most places in Portland, this isn't an everyday dinner kind of place, but it is perfect for special occasions."

  • "Was seated promptly and placed drink order right away. Had to wait for drinks to arrive and decide to place dinner order due to the time it took to receive our drinks. Waited for just over 45 minutes for our dinner to arrive, but what was disappointing was that tables around us that arrived after us received not only their appetizers but also their dinner before we received just our dinner. the waiters advised us that they had gotten behind but could not explain why we had to wait over those around us. What made matters worse was that when our desserts arrived mine was missing a component and the answer to this was that they had trainee's in back. They did comp us 2 drinks but that did little to make good on they overall poor service."

  • "So Bluehour isn't this week's "It" spot; that just means not having to wait three weeks to get a table. The food is interesting and well done, the ambience above average, the service spot-on, and the wine list overflows with Europe's finest. We dined from the Winter menu, starting with the tasty (but chewy) quail (think hipster wings), followed by a complex citrus and roast beet salad. For entrees, we had the grouper (perfectly cooked with a light crust, served over beluga lentils with cauliflower puree) and the amazing lamachine (with lobster, calamari, and sole). A generous plate of surprisingly good, house-made chocolates and petit fours (with mini-milkshake) and a tasty citrus sorbet with coconut macaroon brought the evening to a close."

  • "At our recent trip to Portland it was a rare snowy weekend and everything we had come to the city to do was canceled (meeting cancelled, music show canceled) So we were lucky that BlueHour was open and provided a dinner worth traveling to the city for. We had a great night after a delicious meal. The meal was great. The Waiter experienced, friendly and professional ( come to think of it I should have tipped him more...) I rarely get dessert, but did that night and must say the panna cotta was something out of this world :-)"

  • "Went for dinner at Bluehour. The ambiance is beautiful and waitstaff very attentive. However the food is horrible. Very beautifully presented but lacking in taste. Understand the menu is revolving. Had wagyu beef with lobster tail as a main. The beef was tough and completely tasteless. Wagyu as a tough piece of steak is such a waste. Lobster was just ok. The portions are fair for a restaurant of that level. Cheese trio for dessert, fair and nothing spectacular. Just fodder, nothing special. But if going for presentation, Bluehour is certainly gorgeous."
