Diner Reviews
  • "Wonderful cozy place with good food to celebrate a quiet night for our anniversary. Service was wonderful."

  • "The food here is consistently amazing. Love it. We dine here a lot and bring new friends often."

  • "We have been here many times and Bluegrass never disappoints. We recently invited 4 friends that had never been there before and they loved everything about the place. From the moment you walk in and are greeted warmly to the enormous desserts that must be shared; the dining experience is top notch. We had baby back ribs, which IMO are the best within 100 miles. One of our guests had the shrimp and grits and raved about them. Another had jambalaya which was as authentic as any of us had including various places in the southeast. We cannot say enough good things about Bluegrass. Delicious food, great micro beer selection, huge appetizers, and desserts to share for the table."

  • "This is a neighborhood gem, as well as a destination restaurant. Family owned, they take pride in making each dining experience fun. Attentive wait staff, well prepared entrees, diverse menu, wonderful specials every night and fabulous desserts, it is well worth the trip to Highland Park."

  • "food is consistenly good and a bit unusual for the typical neighborhood restaurant. Very attentive waitstaff and bartender. Reservations reccommened as there could be a wait. Off the beaten path but easy to get to."

  • "Excellent food and friendly, accommodating staff. Menu has enough variety to please just about everyone, yet is unique with a Southern emphasis. Every plate that comes out of the kitchen looks wonderful."

  • "This restaurant never disappoints. The New Orleans type of Cajun preparations are the best around. The service is quick and friendly and the chocolate martini flight is to die for. I love everything about this restaurant and highly recommend it. This is our favorite restaurant and love to try something new each time."

  • "The food is fair, nothing to write home about, service also. In my opinion they are a bit overpriced. Every thing is ala carte. Will not return for quite a while."

  • "I hadn't been to Bluegrass for a few years but I never forgot it. Went with my husband and nephew. I definitely enjoyed my food more than they did. I had the chop salad with shrimp added. I'd always gotten it with salmon but was in a mood for shrimp. While it was tasty, I'd go back to salmon. The men had the pulled pork sandwich (so so) and the 1/2 slab with jambalaya (so so). Ribs were a little dry. Popcorn shrimp & crab cake appetizers were yummy! Service tanked when it got busy. We'd go back but during slower time to get the better service."

  • "We went for dinner on an Sunday night specifically to have the smoked Sunday specials which are: 1/2 smoked BBQ chicken, ribs, brisket. We were seated for a good while with our menus & had already decided what we wanted. When the server approached about drinks- he never mentioned being out of anything. We would have surely appreciated being told this info as soon as we were seated so that we could focus on other things. The rest of our meal was ok... nothing to write home about. Sorry, but not planning on rushing back to Bluegrass..."

  • "Everything about this place from the delicious food and the quality of the food to the wonderful drinks, was a pleasure and is now one of our favorite places to go. We especially like the unusual menu items. The chocolate martini trio is so special."

  • "Brisket, chicken and ribs all on one platter for under $20! Such a deal. And so good. Because we try to eat more lightly, my wife ordered the key west salad and we shared, neither of us feeling deprived or over-meated! My only complaint was a little too much dressing, tho it was good, we prefer our salads under-dressed(and it's our own fault for not getting the dressing on the side)."

  • "Great food adventure with marvelous service ! Always enjoyable dining. Be prepared to taste delicious preparations."

  • "Food was excellent except for the soft shell crab. They came deep fried in what they called a tempura breading. The breading was too heavy. There were 6 of us and everyone enjoyed their dinner. The soft shell were an appetizer that we all tasted."

  • "Blue Grass is a gem in our area...always a pleasant greeting from the hosts, wonderful service. The food is marvelous and the green apple martini is the best! If the South had this food, they'd have won the war. Charlie"

  • "We went with a group of 8 for a lunch gathering and had an excellent experience! The food was spectacular, as always. The service and atmosphere were also outstanding."

  • "Dinner was very enjoyable, as usual. The food and drink menus offer a wide variety of well-executed flavors, with special emphasis on BBQ and New Orleans. Creative presentations involve the use of large martini glasses and generous portions. The waitstaff was helpful and attentive, with watchful management oversight. The room is comfortable and conducive to easy conversation. We always have a good time at Bluegrass and will continue to consider it a favorite."

  • "Bluegrass is a family favorite of ours and we have had several celebrations here. The owners Jim and Joanie could not be more accommodating and pleasant. Everyone feels special here. Family favorites include the chicken and artichoke, smoked polenta and shrimp, any thing BBQ'd and the calamari in a huge martini glass. Desserts are excellent as well!"

  • "We don't eat at Bluegrass that often but every time we do, we wonder why we don't come here all the time. The food is so good and so many varieties there is something for everything from my rib-loving son to my vegetarian daughter. This time I tried the pasta with shrimp and crab. It was very rich but really good! Love the Sassafras Tilapia and the Miso Noodles too. The calamari is really fun to share as are some of their giant desserts!"

  • "We reserved a table for 5 people, but when we showed up, (right on time) we got forced into a four top with a chair on the end. This was very upsetting especially since we made a reservation"

  • "The ribs are always delicious, as are the sides. Service was great. My husband ordered fish, which was also very good. One major disappointment...I went with the idea of ordering ribs, but was immediately swayed by the special of their award-winning BBQ Shrimp and grits, only to be told they had run out at 5:30pm on a Saturday night! Really? "

  • "This was our first time visiting Bluegrass and we had a great experience. We got the blackened grouper and seared ahi tuna, both of which were delicious. We also got a side of the bbq beef briquet, which was also very good. Also appreciate the selection of good draft beers. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and helpful."

  • "The first person we interacted with was friendly and attentive even though there were a lot of people wanting her attention in the waiting area. We were seated at a nice relatively quiet table within a few minutes after we arrived. The food was fabulous! and the service was outstanding. It could not have been better. We would recommend this place to anyone, especially the black and blue grouper! "

  • "I have been to this restaurant before. I feel that the price is higher than the value. Small portions and expensive for food that is served. This Thursday the restaurant had allowed members of a charity group to approach diners and ask for $$. I am happy to give to the charities of my choice but this was inappropriate. "

  • "Easter was the second time I have been to bluegrass in a month. So far everything I have had is really good! Corn pudding is very good, green beans perfect and bbq sauce pretty darn good but not spicy. They make their own bread and honey cinnamon butter as well as for May they have their homemade tortilla chips and salsa . The french onion soup is creamy and amazing...would highly recommend. The chef is very friendly and it seems they will accommodate any requests. My mother didn't want cheese or onions in her soup, so he took them out and personally brought it out to our table for her.Icebox cake is very good. Martinis are GREAT. Ambiance could use some updating on the inside but its very clean, wish they had a patio for summer."
