A word from Bluegrass
Bluegrass is a casual restaurant located in Highland Park. With a cozy setting nestled into the west side of town it is a true destination dining location. Complete with a warm friendly bar and an American flare, Bluegrass blends in a little Southern influence into its repertoire. The wine and beer selections are all American, along with a full back bar, all hand selected to echo the quality of the fare. Check our website for all of our special events. Mardi Gras is celebrated annually. Cinco de May is with us through the 4th of May! We have many wonderful specials that rotate, so check our menu regularly on line.Continued

  • "I hadn't been to Bluegrass for a few years but I never forgot it. Went with my husband and nephew. I definitely enjoyed my food more than they did. I had the chop salad with shrimp added. I'd always gotten it with salmon but was in a mood for shrimp. While it was tasty, I'd go back to salmon. The men had the pulled pork sandwich (so so) and the 1/2 slab with jambalaya (so so). Ribs were a little dry. Popcorn shrimp & crab cake appetizers were yummy! Service tanked when it got busy. We'd go back but during slower time to get the better service."

  • "We went for dinner on an Sunday night specifically to have the smoked Sunday specials which are: 1/2 smoked BBQ chicken, ribs, brisket. We were seated for a good while with our menus & had already decided what we wanted. When the server approached about drinks- he never mentioned being out of anything. We would have surely appreciated being told this info as soon as we were seated so that we could focus on other things. The rest of our meal was ok... nothing to write home about. Sorry, but not planning on rushing back to Bluegrass..."

Because we try to eat more lightly, my wife ordered the key west salad and we shared, neither of us feeling deprived or over-meated! My only complaint was a little too much dressing, tho it was good, we prefer our salads under-dressed(and it's our own fault for not getting the dressing on the side)."

Creative presentations involve the use of large martini glasses and generous portions. The waitstaff was helpful and attentive, with watchful management oversight. The room is comfortable and conducive to easy conversation. We always have a good time at Bluegrass and will continue to consider it a favorite."

  • "Bluegrass is a family favorite of ours and we have had several celebrations here. The owners Jim and Joanie could not be more accommodating and pleasant. Everyone feels special here. Family favorites include the chicken and artichoke, smoked polenta and shrimp, any thing BBQ'd and the calamari in a huge martini glass. Desserts are excellent as well!"

  • "We don't eat at Bluegrass that often but every time we do, we wonder why we don't come here all the time. The food is so good and so many varieties there is something for everything from my rib-loving son to my vegetarian daughter. This time I tried the pasta with shrimp and crab. It was very rich but really good! Love the Sassafras Tilapia and the Miso Noodles too. The calamari is really fun to share as are some of their giant desserts!"

We also got a side of the bbq beef briquet, which was also very good. Also appreciate the selection of good draft beers. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and helpful."

This Thursday the restaurant had allowed members of a charity group to approach diners and ask for $$. I am happy to give to the charities of my choice but this was inappropriate. "

  • "Easter was the second time I have been to bluegrass in a month. So far everything I have had is really good! Corn pudding is very good, green beans perfect and bbq sauce pretty darn good but not spicy. They make their own bread and honey cinnamon butter as well as for May they have their homemade tortilla chips and salsa . The french onion soup is creamy and amazing...would highly recommend. The chef is very friendly and it seems they will accommodate any requests. My mother didn't want cheese or onions in her soup, so he took them out and personally brought it out to our table for her.Icebox cake is very good. Martinis are GREAT. Ambiance could use some updating on the inside but its very clean, wish they had a patio for summer."

They seem to want to be on the foodie side and the prices are on the high end for such a place. If the food was spectacular it might be worth it- but the food was good not great. If your expectaions are not too high and you don't care about price- give it a try."
