Diner Reviews
  • "The food is always so creative and delicious. The charcuterie selections were so interesting, from homemade head cheese to pate, and everything is sourced locally. Our server did a great job - not hovering, but there when we needed him. As a note, the brunch is also one of the best in Baltimore."

  • "Fun spot in the neighborhood with great bloody marys and wonderful service. Many great brunch choices...enjoyed the beignets, crawfish hush puppies and the biscuits and gravy. Friendly, cozy, well spaced tables make this a place you want to linger at and enjoy more. Can't wait to try for dinner. Go for brunch and nap later."

  • "Stumbled across this gem on Open Table. Fantastic food. The crispy Brussels sprouts in walnut oil with blue cheese and radish slices was excellent. I had the heritage pork meatloaf with cheesy grits and grilled veggies and homage gravy, my wife had the fried chicken with hot potato salad and pickled veggies from the comfort food part of the menu. Both were outstanding. Will definitely return soon!"

  • "Bluegrass never disappoints! Phenomenal food, always something new and exciting, plus great beers, bourbons, and staff!"

  • "Delightful dinner while in Baltimore. We had a difficult time paring down our selections to a reasonable amount, due to the interesting menu and specials selections. Started w/baby kale and beet salad and duck confit dumplings - both delicious and pretty. Mains were rabbit pot pie and smoked fried chicken - out of this world! Mac and cheese side was rich and good. The ambience is quiet, candle lit, rustic without being cutesy. Very nice. Pricing was very reasonable!"

  • "They certainly deserve the title of best burger in Baltimore. I definitely plan to go back. Great selection of draft beers, as well."

  • "I love Bluegrass. It's where we go when we're looking for something a step up from the typical federal hill restaurant/bar. The price is a step up, but you can see why in the quality of every morsel of food. We struggle to stray away from the cheese plate since the ingredients are always on point (especially the bacon jam!), and the cheeses are rotated frequently. I love the cozy atmosphere and the staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The chef even came out to greet us the last time we were there. Having this little gem right around the corner makes it difficult to go anywhere else!"

  • "One of the best restaurants in Baltimore. Food is always amazing, and service is top notch. However, during my most recent visit a family with screaming kids were at the bar, which seemed inappropriate for this kind of venue (and seemed to be encouraged by someone who appeared to be the owner/manager of the restaurant), but as soon as we went upstairs to eat the atmosphere immediately changed. One last thing: they make the best manhattans I've ever had--anywhere!"

  • "I've eaten at Bluegrass a bunch of times and it just keeps getting better. We split some charcuterie, the Brussels sprouts appetizer, and each had an entree- all of which were excellent. The cocktails were really good and the wine recommended for dinner was perfect."

  • "Always something odd on the menu but it always seems to be good. Waiter was a bit slow with helping at times."

  • "Even with the restaurant week special, we spent over 100 bucks for 2 people, and just didn't feel like it was worth it. Wine was less than mediocre. We were seated in a far back table next to the bathrooms with cold air blowing on us. The food was very pretty, and adventurous, but just not worth going back a second time. Dessert was PHENOMENAL. The cold $7 coffee that went with it was not."

  • "What a find! Veal brain fritters and rabbit pot pie - who would have thought? This restaurant is fit into a renovated townhouse so the upstairs dining room is low on ambiance - however the robust bourbon library and the attentive service and delicious flavors really make up for it. Good job B-more."

  • "I have been to this restaurant 4 times now and every time I got something different. Everything both my wife and I had was fantastic. The food is very unique and all excellently prepared. The service is always excellent. The chef came out just to say hi and see how things were going, that was great. You can tell everyone there really cares about the food and the people that eat it."

  • "Bluegrass is a favorite. The food continues to be imaginative and tasty. Service is always excellent. The valet parking is efficient and is needed for this part of Federal Hill. Nice selection of spirits and wine."

  • "Absolutely LOVE Bluegrass Tavern. The food is so delicious. I love taking my husband here as it has a very masculine vibe, wild game on the menu and some great beers and bourbons. I also frequent Bluegrass Tavern with the my girlfriends and stuff ourselves on corn bread and fried chicken (two of my favorites on the menu). The Mac & Cheese is to die for as well as the crawfish hush puppies and fried okra. We had the venison chili cheese fries for the first time last night and they are AMAZING! The service is always great! You can't go wrong at Bluegrass Tavern...a true gem!"

  • "The waitress was fantastic working through the many bourbon and rye possibilities. Our only regret is that the menu didn't have more vegetarian options."

  • "From an incredible staff to outstanding food, Bluegrass Tavern was spectacular. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a little slice of southern culture in Baltimore!"

  • "Absolutely everything was perfect at Bluegrass Tavern. Personable, thoughtful service and creative, perfectly balanced dishes made the evening very enjoyable. We shared the crawfish hushpuppies and the charcuterie plate with camembert, country pate, and juniper tasso. The rabbit pot pie and the lobster chowder with blackened catfish were both extraordinary. The pecan pie bars were delicious and were just as good with coffee the next morning. Highly recommend."

  • "Had a lovely late dinner with three others. As always, the menu was inventive and tasty. chef Tim presents unusual combinations of ingredients which end up pleasing the pallet. A good place to try something new. Use the valet parking as street parking is in short supply."

  • "Our server, from the start, was excellent! He recommended a wine to go with our starters. It paired well, but we were disappointed that the crawfish hushpuppies we ordered were gooey and a tad bland. The deviled eggs were good, but the charcuterie was mediocre at best. We then ordered our entrees. My husband ordered the Rabbit Pot Pie and I ordered Blackened Catfish chowder. Both dishes were beautiful in presentation, but really lacked balanced flavors. The pot pie crust was not as flaky as we'd prefer, and the chowder was bland except for the catfish, which was extremely overly blackened. We then ordered the pot du creme for dessert, which was the shining star of our experience! Rich and creamy and perfectly sweet!"

  • "Had an exceptional brunch at Bluegrass Tavern on Sunday. We arrived at 1:30 and were seated on the first floor, in the room with the beautiful fireplace. We enjoyed a leisurely brunch as it was not crowded. The staff were very accommodating, food excellent. We had the pancakes, the southern benedict and the smoked pork scramble. The dinner menu has some must-trys, so we are looking forward to a return trip. It looks like they can open all of the floor to ceiling windows when the weather is nice, which is another nice feature. Loved the "flannel shirt" uniforms of the staff!! It co-ordinated beautifully with the upscale rustic décor."

  • "We booked for New Year's Eve because they were one of the only restaurants we could find without a pre fix menu. We checked their website a week before and on new year eve. When we arrived we were given only a pre fix menu option for $65 per person. The portions were small and certainly the worst pre fix menu I've ever had. Food was good but average. Nothing special at all. They wouldn't allow substitutions and had little to accommodate the varied tastes of our party. Waitress couldn't answer any questions about the menu."

  • "Bkuegrass tavern may be a little off the beaten path in Federal Hill, but it makes up for that in ambiance, and in a style of Southern cooking that is too rare in Baltimore. This is not the most elegant food, but it's well prepared and presented, and it certainly stilled the healthy appetites we brought in on a cold Christmas Eve. Most of all, it was very tasty, from the appetizers (fries, corn bread, and crawfish hush puppoes), through the main courses (fish stew, smoked fried chicken, golden beet ravioli) and sides (Brussels sprouts, sundried tomato/shrimp/croquettes, and roasted beets), to the desserts. Add to that a great selection of draft micro brews, cocktails and wines, and reasonable prices, and you'll understand we'll be back"

  • "It was my second time dining at Blue Grass and we loved it again. It's a casual place that serves excellent food especially the roasted brussel sprouts, deviled eggs and rabbit pot pie."

  • "I had the beets and brussel sprout small plates and I was more than full. My two guests also enjoyed their food. My husband had rabbit pot pie, and I'm pretty sure you're not finding that anywhere else. My friend and I gave gluten and wheat allergies and our server was knowledgeable about the ingredients, making this a very accommodating restaurant."

  • "I wouldn't say this is a great place to bring kids, but we had a 3-year old and our server went out of his way to make sure he was well taken care of. The place was busy as it usually is on a game day, but our waiter kept us apprised of our drinks, appetizers and meals -- brunch is supposed to be leisurely anyway. One of us had his meal delayed in the kitchen, and was comped a drink for the slight inconvenience, a mark of a professional server as well as good business sense on the part of the management. I would only say that the menu is smaller for brunch, and we missed some of the items on the previous menu. But a good time was had by all."

  • "I was in Baltimore for one night and this restaurant was recommended to me! Boy it was a winner!! All six people in my group raved about the meal and we said we would have to do it again!! Bear in mind I'm in California so I'll have to make a really big trip back....but it would be worth it! We had small plate, comfort food, large plates and specialty cocktails!! We were headed to the Illusions Magic show (great show!) so no time for dessert...but I'm sure it would have been yummy as well!!"

  • "My wife and I went here for her birthday and were beyond happy. We are both whiskey lovers and really enjoyed finding a place that had such a nice selection including 4 we had not already enjoyed. For dinner she had the pork speical, and I had the butternut squash bisque and the trois petits couchon heritage pork meat loaf. The food was devine!!! hope to come back soon."
