Bluegrass TavernSouthern Charm in BaltimoreDining at Bluegrass Tavern was a special treat. The pimento cheese appetizer and fried fish and grits led me to recall my delightful and delectable trips to Charleston, SC. The Swiss chard salad was light (not too heavy or filling) and the dressing was divine. Other family members thoroughly enjoyed the pulled pork, potato salad (the best we've ever had) and home style mac 'n cheese. Entree portions were just right and side dishes were generous. Our server was pleasant and calmly efficient. Having frequented other restaurants nearby and struggled with city parking, we found the valet parking to be a very nice touch. Also, if you dined in, the wine tasting is free. Chris is a dynamic, energetic and very knowledgable somilier. His food pairing are spot on. Everything we ate was delicious. We had the southern fried chicken and the rhubarb set it off perfectly. If you love red velvet cake, you must stop by. Chris surprised us with wines to add to our deserts. My husband did not like his but Chris insisted he wait until the desert came I couldn't believe it.....the wine was wonderful WITH the desert. We are totally hooked. It was recommended by a friend. We found the atmosphere, food and drink to be great. The date that I was with is a big bourbon drinker, so he was really excited when he saw the huge bourbon list. It gave him a chance to try different ones. We were both very impressed. The service is great, the food is great and the drinks are great. We were seated on the second floor, which was more quiet than the first floor. Blue Grass Tavern stands out in so many positive ways I may not be able to paint as vibrant a picture as our experience deserves. The restaurant's Federal Hill location is convenient to find but parking will be difficult. The solution was the resturants responsive and friendly valet service. The decor was a comfortable and rustic. Our waiter Kal was a super treat. He was so positive and energetic he has a passion for the menu and ingredients. He took the time to explain the dishes and how the chef would develop incredible flavors in each. Antelope Carpacci, Blackeyed Pea and Peanut soup delicious.....Goat Belly ( amazing ). The food was terrific and I would classify ourselves as foodies and picky. I had the morel and fava pot pie. It was silky and really punched the flavor on the morels. My husband's ribeye was juicy, perfectly cooked and the sauce complimented the steak perfectly. My mother did not share her spring lamb stew and there was little left in her plate. My dad had the tile fish and did share the okra but only because he could not figure out what it was. The beer and wine lists are very nice. It was too cold to eat outside but there were plenty of tables out for the warmer months. Seating is limited so I would recommend rsvping in advance. Keep in mind though that if you call, the restaurant doesn't open until 5pm so you should call at least the day before or use Opentable. Service was great, food was good. I had the burger and mac and cheese as an appetizer that was shared between three. Overall it was a good experience, but part of the draw was the exotic items on the menu that was somewhat lacking that night. We decided to give it a shot for Easter brunch and OH MAN have we been missing out. I always associated Blue Grass with fine dinning and high prices, WRONG!
The menu is amazing and completely affordable. We ordered 3 appetizers and 4 entrees. EVERYONE love EVERYTHING...and we can be a picky group. Smoked fried chicken sandwich and the salmon cake Benedict were the table favorites!

Here are the (few) negatives... Deviled eggs - very plain, kinda dull, wouldn't order again. Salad - overdressed (which for a mayo-based dressing is particularly heavy). Sausage that comes with platters - high quality but lacks brighter notes to counterbalance the heavy porky-ness. Beignets - 3/5, lacking in flavor and yeastiness, coffee-chocolate sauce lacks oomph.
Coffee - totally fine for Dunkin Donuts lovers.
