Diner Reviews
  • "I have been vacationing in the area of the Casa Adobes mall for years and have passed Bluefin many times wondering what it might be like. All those with whom I have discussed nice places to eat in Tucson have spoken very highly of the food and service at Bluefin. On my recent visit I finally got to try it and can add my recommendation. I was with a group and everyone enjoyed their selection, service and ambiance. I went for the seafood but was interested to see Lamb Shanks on the menu. If they are as good as everything else was, that would be great."

  • "Absolutely the best scallop dish I've ever eaten! Seared scallops in red curry sauce... Who knew I'd find them in the desert of Arizona. I'd visit Tucson again just for the Bluefin scallops!"

  • "We've eaten at BlueFin before and we were disappointed in the food this time. The Oyster Rockefeller were bland; the Bouillabaisse broth could of used more spices and the lobster was tough. Considering this meal was pricey, I had a higher expectation for his dish. The scallops were cooked to perfection which was the only plus for this dish but it didn't make up for the rest of the meal."

  • "Solid place with several fresh entree seafood options. The lobster bouillabaisse was terrific with loads of fish at a very reasonable price. Several other non seafood options available. We split a beet - spinach salad, which was tasty. Decent and fairly priced wine list. Skipped desert in favor of gelato at Frosts in the same mall."

  • "Bluefin was able to fulfill my request for two pound Maine lobsters (although I should have checked the price for the special ordered item beforehand), The lobsters were steamed perfectly and tasted great. One of our guests had the yellow fin tuna and said it was great. The other order was for a lobster roll that did not meet expectations. This was due to additional seasoning that the diner did not like. Before ordering the loster roll be sure and ask for a taste of the filling to make sure you will like it. Salads and desert were very good. Our table service was very good - excellent attention but not hovering. Expensive (average $70. / diner with tip - 2 special order lobsters were $65.00 each!). Can't afford to return."

  • "I am a native Oregonian and eat a lot of seafood. I was totally surprised to find food and service in this Tucson seafood bistro to be just as good as what I was accustomed to in Portland. Freshness, quality, variety, portion size, and service were all excellent, on this, our first visit to this establishment. Now that we are living in Tucson, this will be one of our "go to" standards. Highly recommended."

  • "Great restaurant for seafood here in the desert! My wife and I were very pleasantly surprised at the quality and selection (our first time here even though we are almost Tucson natives...) Friday evenings are quite crowded; reservations recommended! Service was very good; even though we did have a bit of a wait for the main course....but not unexpected, considering the restaurant was full! Staff was very efficient and pleasant and offered a complimentary dessert for our patience! Nice not to have to drive to Phoenix for our other seafood place!"

  • "We found food done perfectly, inventive dessert, great wine list, outstanding service. We eat out a lot and run across an A+ experience seldom, this was one."

  • "I should have known that I couldn't get good fish in Tucson. Bluefin reinforced that. My fish was so-so. Rather tasteless and smothered in sauce (usually a sign that the fish isn't the best). It was accompanied by roasted potatoes that were so salty they were inedible. Service was hurried. My friends had fish and chips that were heavily breaded and greasy again disguising the fish. All in all a mediocre dinner."

  • "We have enjoyed Blue Fin for years but this last experience was less than even average in terms of service. It was very slow and I think our waitress might have been in a bad mood - no smiles - kinda rolled her eyes every now and then and not the least bit apologetic for the horrible service. A waiter attempted to deliver another table's food to us and that came quickly - but it was not ours. Aside from the service, the food was masterful as always."

  • "In the past had some good and bad experiences. Tonight all the dinners were excellent as was service. Think it is better to go on a week night, than the weekend."

  • "I took my son there Sunday night for dinner as we were visiting from out of town. we looked around in our brochures for a place to eat that wasn't fast food. When we arrived we found the restaurant to be relatively empty so of course I was a bit confused about needing a reservation. In any case we were sat right away. Our server eventually took her order. We ordered appetizers which she realized after about 10 to 15 minutes we did not get them so she brought those out. Soon after we finished our appetizers she brought out our dinner which was perfect timing. My son enjoyed his king crab legs dinner and I had the steak dinner which I was not very happy about and did not enjoy. My plate was full of grease."

  • "We had a great meal. We ordered the mahi mahi and it was cooked perfectly. The staff was very accommodating, especially the manager Steve. It was our first time dining here but it won't be our last. Can't wait to go back again."

  • "Bluefin is our favorite spot for a bit of an upscale dining experience. If you go early, it is not too crowded and the noise level is quiet. As the restaurant gets more full, it gets a bit noisy. There is a lot of outdoor seating; perfect for our climate. The service this time was a little slow in terms of our server, but that is a bit unusual. The menu is focused on seafood, with great preparations. There are token offerings in terms of chicken, beef. I don't remember seeing any pasta dishes. You definitely go there for seafood. I would highly recommend Bluefin!"

  • "After a completely disappointing visit in February with friends, March's visit was back to The Bluefin I love: perfectly cooked clams in a broth that oozed garlic and white wine and the best Petrale Sole I have ever eaten. Service was a bit slow but understandable because the place was hopping. Glad to see it and glad they are back to perfect again."

  • "The food was ok, but nothing special. It was relatively pricey. Decent wine list, not much of a choice in beers. I'd skip dessert-- the lemon pound cake tasted like something you could buy in the store. Overall, I'd head to their sister restaurant the Kingfisher for good seafood. This place is a little less noisy and the decor is nice, but not worth the price for the food."

  • "WE HAD A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY AND THE WHOLE TEAM AT "BLUE FIN" HELPED IN EVERY WAY TO MAKE THIS A PERFECT OCCASION. I CANNOT THANK 'AMELLIA; MORE FOR THE EXCELLENT SERVICE AND GREAT ATTITUDE THAT SHE BROUGHT TO THE PARTY. THANK YOU ALL FOR MAKING THIS A VERY SPECIAL OCCASION. DAVE"

  • "I had the fish and chips and that was great for a friday night. My husband wanted the hawaiian crusted but they were out of that fish. so my husband asked our server for salmon crusted and the chef made that for him. that was nice."

  • "The Blue Fin is a favorite for seafood that is unique, well prepared, beautifully plated and eagerly presented by its gracious servers. Truly an elegant dining experience."

  • "I have eaten at Bluffing several times. I have always enjoyed the seafood preparation but this visit was to enjoy Cajon for on Fat Tuesday, Cajon food was awful, they don’t know how to prepare/cook this type of food. I made reservation, got confirmation and a reminder, upon arrival my reservation was not in their system. On top of this I had a bed service, waited a long time for the food."

  • "We return to Bluefin each year and are not disappointed. Their menu is creative, but not over the top. This year we were there on Mardi Gras and it was very festive! I had an excellent grilled sea bass and my wife had the crab cake - which was OK for Tucson but would not be quite up to snuff in Maryland. We will be back."

  • "Bluefin offers a nice variety of fresh seafood. Our party of four started with two orders of the NW fresh oysters and 1 order of the special baked oysters. All were pleased with the selection. One member had a beer based soup of the day and enjoyed it. Entrees included a yellow fin daily special, an order of the calamari, an order of the fresh salmon and one order of the fried jerk shrimp. All were done and presented well. Chardonnay and tonic water were added to the meal. Saturday night is quite busy, so be prepared to wait even if reservations are made. It also can be a bit loud, so be prepared."

  • "I had sea bass, and it was so bad, I could not eat it. My husband had shrimp which were just ok. Waitress seemed mad to be there and was not friendly or attentive. Does not live up to reviews given. Will Never return nor recommend."

  • "Our last two visits to Bluefin, our Tucson favorite, were disappointing. Salmon was overcooked, scallops were bland and pasta served with them was mushy, mussels were so-so. We have always viewed this restaurant as dependably great, so hope this is just a temporary glitch."

  • "Very, very slow service. Luke warm food. Had out of town guests and was embarrassed by the slow service."

  • "Mussels and clams which have always been outstanding were tasteless. Broth had no flavor. Oysters Rockefeller were overcooked and the parmesan cheese on top was rock hard and stale tasting. I love this restaurant and have introduced many people to its excellent menu but I was very disappointed. Luckily, our guests enjoyed their meals."

  • "The pickings are slim in Tucson - we are New Yorkers who carry food snobbery proudly. Blue Fin is an excellent restaurant! The menu is very well done; balanced, unpretentious, well-priced. The service is smooth and friendly. We were there on a night when all bottles of wine were 50% off. That was our chance to try something extraordinary. Salads and oysters for appetizers were fresh and wonderfully naturally delicious. The sourdough bread was warm and crusty, yum. Fish also prepared with a light touch. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu - and they will adjust for allergies and aversions. We did not get to dessert."

  • "This was our third visit to Bluefin and we were very disappointed with the service. People were sitting outside and it was half full inside but service was extremely slow: 25 minutes to order and receive a cocktail, just short of 2 hours for dinner with appetizers and no dessert or coffee."

  • "Bluefin was obviously "packing 'em in" for Valentine's Day. Tables were positions inches from each other, cafeteria style, which was the opposite of a romantic Valentine's setting. And because of the extreme number of diners, food was incredibly slow in its arrival from the kitchen (not just ours - everyone around us had a "please bring a third helping of bread" type of wait between appetizers/salads and main course). And unfortunately, the wait for the main course was not worth it. To quote my girlfriend, "I've had a better cob salad from Safeway." And my sea bass was on par with a Marie Calendar's dinner just out of the microwave. I had never been to Bluefin before, and am not going to give them another non-holiday try."

  • "This was our first visit; we were impressed by the upstairs dining area. The outside area looked fabulous, too, but it was too chilly for us to try. Small menu but good variety in the selections; I especially liked the small dish options. Very fair pricing for the food and ambience quality. The food is gourmet, but has the feel of comfort food. Quantity was perfect. The wine list is short but nicely priced and good selection. I think they must bake their own bread; it was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The flourless chocolate torte was my least favorite part of the meal...too thick and hard chocolate icing, and the sauce didn't fit the torte well. But we'll definitely be back."
