  • "Quality of the fish is excellent - best part about this sushi place in OC. Sushi chefs are friendly and talented. Prices on some dishes are out of line ($40 for a too-small Golden Eye Snapper sashimi for example). Might have just been a one time thing, but we had 830pm reservations on a Saturday night and by 915pm they were already wrapping up the sushi bar and (politely) pushing customers to conclude their meal. Our bill came before our last dish was served as were the parties seated on either side of us. I get that it was the night of changing to Daylight Savings Time and the restaurant crew wanted to go home, but in this case it was poor form to compromise a still half full restaurant group of patrons."

Maybe it was because chef Takashe Abe was busy doing other things -- and one of the other chefs prepared our Sushi Omakase. There was a noticeable difference from the last time we had the Omakase and Abe was able to prepare it."

We ordered in sets over a two hour period and no one rushed us, plus questions were thoughtfully answered. Highlights were the kelp salad and spicy tuna on crispy rice."

  • "Had the chef's menu and sake flight for lunch. Every bite was divine, from seared halibut to the freshest sushi and sashimi ever. The sashimi salad was as beautiful as any presentation in Tokyo, and as delicious. We eat scallops a lot, but the scallop sushi was the best scallop ever. The $35 price for the multi course menu was good value. All in all, a superb lunch."

  • "Sub-par food. Terrible service. Managers/Waiters with negative pushy attitudes. This was a terrible birthday lunch. I had high expectations for this classy restaurant with fab reviews. I was very wrong. They don't like children, and when I made the reservation I mentioned we had a baby and needed a highchair but they do not have any and will give you attitude. I asked to bring my stroller in, which most restaurants are OK with...but they aren't allowed either. The entire lunch I couldn't wait to leave. I will not be coming back because the food was nothing special. I've had better sushi that cost me less than half the price of one roll at Bluefin. Overall a terrible experience. I would not ever recommend this place if you have taste buds."

Our food with a $40 bottle of wine was $180 which is somewhat high for 2 people. The restaurant was quite empty for a Saturday eve."

The service was very good and they were able to seat us even though we were a little late. Servers were efficient but would have been nice if they were a little more friendly and explained the food and the sake a little more. Overall a great meal."

  • "I used to visit the restaurant (and the chef's previous restaurant) for omakase and always thought it was a special treat, as the food was unique and the arrangement was aesthetically pleasing. However, my most recent visit turned out to be a great disappointment. The array of food was just various sushi which did not look special and some of the fish were soft and textureless, which led me to think that they were not fresh. I will not view Blue Fin as a restaurant worthing going for special occasion any more."

  • "This restaurant has the best sushi we've ever had. Interesting and unusual choices, quality that is fine. A variety of cooked options and salads as well. Just one issue: The sushi comes 2 pieces to an order and the rolls easily serve 3-4. The menu should let diners know this. The waiters are knowledgable about the sushi and are able to describe the offerings. We have seen children there many times and they always seem to enjoy themselves. There is a counter or table service, but make a reservation!"
