A word from Bluefin
On any given night, you’ll likely find a celebration or two underway at this spacious downtown sushi lounge. Much of the restaurant’s seating is designed for large groups, and there’s even a unique private room where guests sit on floor pillows. Low blue lighting gives the place a soothing vibe. The menu offers treats for sushi aficionados, such as the Majik Mushroom roll (Kobe beef with warm truffle butter and mushroom salt) or the more traditional Hama-Kimchee (yellowtail topped with spicy kimchi). But picky kids (and the sushi-phobic) can find plenty to eat on the entrée menu, which features flatbreads, Steaks, and multiple seafood options. Bluefin also offers several brands of saké (both hot and cold) and a bar that serves food an hour after the restaurant side has closed. Continued

  • "Wonderful experience! The server was great and knew we were celebrating a special occasion and was very helpful and tentative. She was great and made our night very special! Love this place, such great food!"

  • "We had a blast at Bluefin! The server was awesome and the food was so tasty! First time trying grilled oysters and they were absolutely delicious!!! We had date night there with another couple and it was perfect! Darker lighting, waterfall and great noise level!! The sushi was the best and the drinks came cold."

  • "Especially considering it is in Memphis where southern food rules. This place offers a nice variety of fresh salads, sushi, nigiri, amazing sushi rolls and also more standard dishes such as grilled salmon, chicken, flatbreads and so on. Perfect for any taste and a welcome departure from heavy southern cuisine offered in most restaurants in Memphis."

  • "The only restaurant with an open reservation on a Saturday night at 7:15 pm should have been a heads up. My party was seated promptly, but after 20 minutes we had to ask for a waitress. We did not even have water. The food(surf n turf, fish special and vege noodle dish were fair). The sashimi special appetizer was the best item of the meal. The ravioli served with the fish special was too doughy. The kitchen was slow. We will not return, there are many better restaurants in downtown to choose from."

  • "We had a large group and they handle us very well. Food was great! The menu was able to accommodate the non-sushi fans in the group as well. Will definitely eat here again on the next visit to Memphis."

  • "Good ambiance, service was a little slow but the food was really good! The Menage-a-Trois wine is excellent!"

  • "The atmosphere and location were awesome, but staff was less than desirable; not very educated about cocktails or menu choices, a little scattered. Food was just so-so. Next time, and yes, we would go back, would order from menu to be fair. Chose prix-fixe menu for efficiency, and were somewhat disappointed. Cocktails generous and poured well, but pricey. Wine list, especially house wines, could use some work. Overall, decent, but mediocre. Not bad for quick dinner and drinks pre- or apres- theater but not first choice. Maybe we just did not order well. Definitely want to return to see if regular menu better."

  • "My husband and I ate here for Valentine's Day. The MPD roll was great, but the Bluefin roll was surprisingly bland. We also enjoyed the spicy tuna and riverside rolls. It was very busy but our server was still attentive and gave us an accurate recommendation for a wine we enjoyed. We would definitely go back."

  • "We had a hard time getting to the restaurant due to transportation problems on Valentine's Day but the owners were very understanding. Great, fast service and quality food."

  • "I really enjoyed my house salad, the vinaigrette was great and the Bluefin roll with blue crab was delicious. I know I'm small town minded but for the price of the roll, I would have enjoyed a few more pieces. Overall, I had a delicious dinner before a great show!"

  • "I LOVE Bluefin! Definitely a Memphis hot spot. We always come here before going to the Orpheum. The drinks are amazing and the sushi is to die for!! We tried the crab cakes for the first time and all I can say is WOW!!"

  • "Great food, great atmosphere. Was looking forward to crab cakes, but ours came with a 6" long hair. Waitress was kind and apologetic but still charged us full price for it. Be prepared to wait a sizable amount of time for your sushi order, but when it came it was very good."

  • "Because of traffic we were 15 minutes late for our reservation and we had tickets to a show at the Orpheum later that evening. Told our server we were a bit rushed and he said it would be no problem and he lived up to his word. We had sushi and sashimi for starters. The roll was excellent, the sashimi was good. For entrees we had the surf and turf and the pan seared scallops. Both were very good with the nod to the pan seared scallops as the best. The filet could have used a bit more seasoning, but was still very good. Several of the dinners around us had the flat bread pizzas and they looked great. Going to try the pizza We sat in the main dining room, but they have rooms on both sides of the main room that are great for groups."

  • "This restaurant used to be much better, but it appears a change in management, chef or other has caused the quality of food and service to suffer. I hate to see this, because as a Memphian I love to see downtown restaurants thrive. Appetizers were overall pretty tasty, which is why I hold the food at good instead of fair to poor. One member of our party had the short ribs which were below par. The absolute worst part was the fact that my wife actually had a piece of paper mixed in with the potatoes on her plated. She had ordered a filet, which was OK, and thank goodness she finished this before having her stomach turned by the paper. Service was slow and the waiter was often forgetful. We waited 25 minutes for one sushi roll."

  • "The sushi was excellent as always. However, our server was the worst I've ever seen. We rarely saw him, he seemed incredibly preoccupied when he did come by our table, my friend ordered a seaweed salad & never received it yet was charged for it & my husband & I did not get two of the rolls we ordered because our server admitted he didn't see them on the other side of the form we marked for the rolls we wanted. By the time he brought the rest of our order out & discovered the oversight, it would have taken a long time to get the other two rolls made so we chose not to wait. We left hungry. We had a concert to attend & ate something at the venue. Very frustrating experience! I would not recommend eating here until service improves."

  • "We have not been to Bluefin in years, so it was a treat to return. Even though the crabcakes were not very warm, they were wonderfully delicious. Probably the best crab cakes I have ever had. The filet was impeccable in every aspect--tender, tasty, well presented. My husband had the salmon and was equally pleased. We ha the bread pudding for dessert and were wishing for more as we finished. Yum."

  • "Was looking for a romantic place to take my fiance for her birthday. This place is just that. Service was awesome. Food was great. I spent $100.00 totally. Well worth it for the steaks and alcohol we enjoyed."

  • "Met some friends here for dinner before West Side Story at the Orpheum. The Kobe Beef sushi was awesome. Best thing all night in fact. Sadly the other sushi selections were simply average. Overall this is a great spot before a show."

  • "This was the second time I ate here. I had a great experience the first time and was excited to return. However, my friends and I went in for Downtown Dining week and had a terrible 3 course meal. The soup was very salty and too rich for an appetizer, the salmon dish was extremely salty, and the creme brûlée was underdone. The service was good but it seemed like because of the special deal, the owner tried to take the easy way out and make simple courses that were easy to mass produce."

  • "Our server was terrible. Not attentive at all, hardly came to the table and had to 'wave him down' to get him over to the table. He did not know the menu and seemed to just make up things about what the dishes actually were."

  • "When I'm paying nearly a $100 for a meal for two, and given the fact that I'm an "older adult" I dislike being referred to by wait staff as "you guys." That said, the food was excellent. Generous portions and well presented."

  • "When my fiancee and I arrived, we were 1 of only 4 tables in the restaurant & we had requested a quiet booth. She headed to the center of the restaurant, and I asked for a booth. She seemed highly annoyed, and led us to a strange puzzle-piece configured 8 top table. With the rest of the facility empty, she seated two people we did not know at the other end of the 8 top with us. They talked to each other very loudly in Chinese throughout our meal. It was by far my worst experience ever at this restaurant. I say that I would recommend this place to a friend because I have eaten here many times and never experienced anything like this before."

  • "Walu was superb, was not sure if hamachi was really hamachi (real hamachi is buttery and it was not--and 80% of fish in us is mislabeled). Salmon was great. Lots of rolls, good seaweed salad, great bread pudding, great waiter (sat outside). I'm pretty choosy about sushi and this was a place I'd go to every month or so if I lived in Memphis."

  • "The one suggestion, I have is perhaps for your management to give a coaching with the waitresses to smile more. Our waitress did not introduce herself and did not even smile during our first several exchanges of communications at the table. She was very efficient and thorough, but as friendly as a wall. Even though it wasn't that busy during the hour and half we were there , it seem to us, that the other waitresses were not smiling or projecting at least a casual friendliness either. I swear that one waitress that walked past our elevated table countless times while we were there did not smile once (at anyone) and avoided eye contact with us, which gave us the impression "we were not her customers therefore we did not exist (cont below"

  • "Blue fin is a pretty cool spot for groups or date nights. The service could be a bit better, however it may suffer b/c the place is always over crowded. I do understand that they want all of the business possible but refrain from putting so much work on one waiter. If they concentrate on splendid customer service, this could be a TOP downtown Memphis spot. Other than that, the rolls and appetizers are great!"
