Diner Reviews
  • "This was my second visit to Bluebird Barbeque. We were a group of 5 and we tried a lot of what was on the menu. The selection of three soft tacos was delicious, I had the shrimp taco, sweet potato taco and the the brisket, they were all delicious. It was served with rice and beans - the beans were spectacular. Two of our party had pulled pork and it was also delicious as were the ribs. The side orders were also good, the cole slaw and corn bread. Worth a special trip to Burlington to eat there."

  • "The ribs are the star. Hostess and waitstaff were great, friendly, helpful, and helped make the night so fun. The entrees were the best, but sides were typically Burlington. Kale instead of collards, maple syrup in the sweet potato mash? They were sweet! Bread was, a slice of white bread. Excited to see hush puppies!! Turned out they were rolled in sugar and were for dessert. Decibel level in the room we were in was off the charts, but people were having fun, and it's a roadhouse not fine dining! Prices were reasonable especially if you get the barbecue for two or the family reunion."

  • "Went here on suggestion from a friend and ordered the BBQ for 2. They also had Hill Farmstead and Heady Topper for beer. We couldn't have been happier with everything. It was great. We've been telling everyone and will definitely go next time we are in town. Decent value for the money too."

  • "Our family of 4 enjoyed the sides and had enough left- over delicious meats to savor the next day for lunch and snacks. It was a great choice as we enjoyed all the different sauces and sides they have to offer. Good, pleasant service, too."

  • "Great bbq. Please fix sides. Fried sides ok but mac n cheese is inedible."

  • "We first went to Bluebird BBQ last summer and it was great. Good service, great food. This time it seemed to have lost a little bit of its lustre. No hush puppies on the regular menu (only dessert hush puppies) which seems an odd choice for a BBQ restaurant - especially since they were highly recommended last time and delicious. The service was fair - our waitress seemed bored. She challenged a member of our party when they told her that their order was incorrect. I would continue to recommend Bluebird BBQ because the food is very good. Maybe this was just an off night for them? But, do bring back the hush puppies please!"

  • "Overall our experience was "okay". Nothing remarkable except the very slow service. I have enjoyed real southern BBQ all over the south. Unfortunately, this isn't it. However, we are in the Northeast, so my expectations were set accordingly, and Bluebird met those expectations; a reasonable attempt at real BBQ. Over-salted, overly-dry meat, weal sweet tea and you get what us native Vermonters "think" is southern BBQ (folks, it isn't even close). Aside from the food, service was really slow. Drink and water glasses were empty for too long, dirty dishes piled up on the table, and our waitress was rarely seen; until it was time to pay the bill. The restaurant failed to "wow", and for that reason we will not likely return anytime soon."

  • "amazing bbw - I'm not from the south, so can't compare, but the offerings here are pretty tasty, and plentiful! Family platter is an awesome takeout option. Their "starter" poutine platter w/ pulled pork may just about kill you, but it might almost be worth it. Definitely something to share with a group. their "game "room" is a great spot to keep kids busy if you have a wait for your table."

  • "The BBQ is flavorful. My son and husband really loved the beans. As a vegetarian, I ordered the seitan. It came as a sandwich which was cold. I would not normally patronize a BBQ restaurant, we were there to celebrate my son's birthday. I doubt my husband and I will rush back as there are so many wonderful restaurants in the BTV area."

  • "Food was absolutely fantastic. Bluebird was recommended to us by a local...which generally is a good thing. We had a great meal and great service. The sweet BBQ sauce (homemade) was so good I could have eaten it by the spoonful. My husband and I shared BBQ for 2. Definitely a lot of food. Sides were mac and cheese, coleslaw, apple sauce, and smashed sweets (you can pick any 4 of 9 that you want). All were delicious. The only part I didn't like is how close the tables are to each other. Our server had to stand sideways in between our table and our neighbor in order to take our order. While we kept low voices (as did our neighbor) we overheard all of their conversation. That spoiled the ambiance."

  • "Would highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich, with extra slaw, the choose 3 tacos and the pit beans. The onion rings were not as expected however would highly recommend this establishment for a great meal! The beer list was also good and complimented the menu well."

  • "The food was good, and the service was great but very $$$$ for dinner for 2."

  • "Food could have been hotter. A little pricey. Dinner for 2, 1 drink each $75. Seems a lot for BBQ. Was good tasting food"

  • "I found my waitress to be attentive. It's really hard to find restaurants that's are popular that don't try to rush the check and BB BBQ is one such eatery. However, myself and my dinner mate found our BBQ lack luster. We ordered brisket (it was fatty and chewy), turkey breast (that was VERY dry and under spiced) and ribs ( 2/3 of the rack were tuff and dry, almost jerky like and 1/3 burnt to a crisp). 3 of the 4 sides were excellent. I highly recommend the greens, Mac'n cheese and onion rings, but skip the sweet potatoes. Additionally, we had quite a bit of food left and had it packed to bring home. The next afternoon when I opened the to go container I discovered I had someone else's food!"

  • "We were a party of 4, looking for good food. Two of us had baby back ribs, which were excellant. Another member of ourgrouphad soft tacos. This was a well thought out, complex dish. The side dishes were good except the kale - over cooked and tasteless. Our dinner was completed with an excellant selection of beers."

  • "First of all, the new manager was awesome. She stopped by our table and checked in on us. The waiter, Adrian, also was excellent. The Barbecue unfortunately was just okay. It's like what do you expect in Burlington Vermont? I was really hoping for a GREAT experience and the food here was okay. These guys should put the chef on a plane, send them down to Memphis and then back up. There was no kick to what we were eating. I have to say the sides (baked beans especially) were much better than the main meal itself."

  • "Food was delish, there was plenty of it! My 13 yr old ordered from the children's menu - no problem - and it was a healthy serving! Waitstaff attentive through out the meal. Warm and cozy on a winter evening. Gave my husband a complementary birthday dessert - with extra plates and spoons:). Drinks were expertly made - not too weak and not overly strong. Pricing very reasonable for the quality!!"

  • "Awesome food. Wonderful staff! Very attentive! Although we were extremely disappointed that there was no banana cream pie any longer on the menu!!! Please bring it back!!!"

  • "Good brisket and sides. Greens and ham plus whipped sweets were great. Rack of ribs a little charred on the end, but tender and tasty inside. I loved the sauces. Good beer list . Nice draft selection and Heddy Topper!!!! Very comfortable and relaxed place to unwind and a beautiful view out over the Winooski."

  • "Really good BBQ! Fun, casual atmosphere, with nice bar games for kids (and adults too!). The staff was attentive and fun. I highly recommend the baby back ribs! My wife, who eats very little meat, found the menu limited, but this is a BBQ place, so that's to be expected. We enjoyed several rounds of bar shuffleboard with the kids."

  • "The ribs are delicious, the beans taste homemade, and the mac and cheese tastes like good cheese. Great beer selection. Love the beat salad with crispy onions rings on it. And, the corn bread is better than I make from scratch. Consistent good food here with friendly staff."

  • "The food was excellent and the service was very good as well. My son said the chicken was the best he has ever had. I had the brisket and it was excellent as well. For sides, you can't go wrong with the onion rings or mac and cheese!"

  • "the online reservation process was quick and easy. we were seated instantly. it was fairly busy at 6 pm when we ate, but it was a quiet atmosphere. our waitress was amazing. fast, easy and personable . the pulled pork was delicious, although we prefer it with more sauce on it. extra sauce is available on every table. the pieces were a bit large, as we are used to pulled pork that is more shredded . the portions were large and take home containers were given. overall just a wonderful experience!"

  • "The only thing that I can say is that prior to going to Bluebird, I looked at their website and the menu was not updated and it also said that Tuesday, kids eat free. The ended up giving us the deal for my daughter with zero hassle and we would have gone there anyway, but it's nice to know these things ahead of time."

  • "The food is very good and above #2 what is missing in the recommendations is: Great for dinner. My only complain is: The tables are a too narrow for "group tray" (or the tray is too wide and needs to be longer and more narrow. If you are in the middle you have to almost eat on your lap. Bigger tables would be welcome."

  • "This place is a really great barbeque food restaurant. They are quick and the service is good. The food is delicious and reasonably priced for the large portions that they give you. I really enjoyed the different sauces, tenderness of the meat, and the mac and cheese and apple sauce. Also, you can't go wrong with the barbeque for two (three meats and four sides for two people)!"

  • "I can not say enough good things about our experience here. The food (while not waist line friendly) is so so delicious ... my husband literally can not stop talking about the ribs ... or the brisket for that matter. The prices are really reasonable especially considering the quality and portion size. I shared a great bottle of wine (Bread & Butter Pinot) and while small the wine list has very nice choices. And the night we were there they had two Hill Farmsteads on tap, very nice. The service was great, friendly, helpful and unpretentious. Thanks BB BBQ!"

  • "great beer list, house smoked meats and a southern flavor that's hard to find in an authentic fashion, I'd reccomend this place to anyone looking for good barbecue food. the game's room with old-time games is a nice touch too. service can sometimes leave a little something to be desired."

  • "When we first sat down at the table we noticed the table was tipping, rocking back and forth like a see-saw. Everyone in the world has had this experience at one time or another. For some people it is not bothersome. For me and 85 percent of other diners I know it is distracting, insulting to the diner, and generally intolerable. It can ruin a meal. My friend (who is a rather distinguished culinary personage in these parts) and I had to "adjust" the table's stability five times before it was (almost) stable, by stuffing napkins and other items under the legs of the table, repeatedly. I know this sounds "fussy" but ......(continued below))"

  • "We went here for my son's b-day and were treated very well. The food is very good. We ordered brisket, pulled pork and I wanted to try something different, so I went with the turkey. I thought all were very good and the portions were generous. Like many BBQ places, the prices always seem a little high, but considering the time and effort that goes into the cooking process, this is reasonable. Great beer selection and the service was friendly and fun. We could not have asked for a better meal."
