Diner Reviews
  • "As a native NYer I have been coming here for years and bringing all my clients and family here as well. Top Shelf service and food and consistently excellent."

  • "Blue Water is always a dining pleasure - the service is swift and attentive. The food - especially the seafood - is delicious and presented beautifully."

  • "Food was okay, but nothing that would make me want to go back, although the place does have nice atmosphere. The shrimp toast was just some pretty ordinary shrimp salad on some bread that wasn't very toasted. The Halibut was okay but didn't really have a nice sear to it. might go back just for drinks."

  • "I so enjoyed my time at The Blue Water Grill! Have not been there in years, and decided to try it again, since my last time was awesome. Well I was not dissappointed. Order the 'Pork Belly Sliders and or "The Kale Ceaser Salade as an appetizer. As for the desserts....... go for it! I will be back!"

  • "Not my first time at BWG...but my first time taking the new girlfriend. I had given her a list of 3 places to choose from seeing as she wanted seafood. She explained that she loved BWG and would prefer it to the 'trendy/scene' restaurants further downtown. We had a fantastic meal and our waiter, Hunter, was wonderful."

  • "Just as I am going to post on Trip Adviser, I don't see anything great about this restaurant. In fact we much prefer the one just next door, Union Square Cafe. We decided to go there on a Saturday after going to the Green Market. We had often past it going to Union Square Cafe and thought it looked good. I printed out the menu (not the same by the way as what we got) and we picked out things we though we would like. Much of it was not on the menu presented to us. Food - I can get better food at a place called Vivaldi in Bayside NY near where we live, which is Whitestone. Bathrooms dirty, they had to asked us when we sat down (do you want bread)??? we got 3 small pieces, so we had to ask for more. Why does every Love it?"

  • "This use to be one of our go to restaurants for great sea food. We were disappointed with this visit. The menu is now much smaller. Some of the key favorite items - lobster bisque and lobster mashed potatoes - are now gone. The fish was still well cooked but the way they plate makes it seem like you are part of assembly line. The desserts were unremarkable. In addition the service was lacking. There are lots of staff congregating around the ordering stations, they block customers from walking by. There are also staff members always passing behind you it's very disruptive and kills the ambiance. The was on my list of great restaurants to visit - but after this list visit I'm no longer recommending it to friends."

  • "Great location and building (former bank building). somewhat limited lunch menu but came with specials. Great atmosphere especially in warmer months with open doors to outside seating. Great location on Union Square. Great service and food. Gotta try the ice cream tower dessert!"

  • "From the welcoming staff to the waitstaff and especially for the food, this restsurant never disappoints. Any meal any time you will never be sorry you were there. Kudos for 30 years of terrificness!"

  • "I have been to the Blue Water Grill many times. It's a great atmosphere, though the noise level can be high on a busy night, which is most nights. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and appropriately attentive. I just could not figure out why he never poured my wine for me. The appetizer, a tuna ceviche was bright with lime, a creamy avocado sauce and quite delicious. The halibut entree was grilled to perfection and served with a paprika sauce, grilled asparagus and fennel. Absolutely delicious and a true winner. I found the dessert list to be unremarkable. We had a cheese cake which was quite good."

  • "The food was phenomenal. I have a gluten allergy, and the staff and kitchen were attentive and made sure my plates came out with an allergy label on them, letting me know the kitchen had been paying attention and keeping the food separated. Do not miss the watermelon gazpacho -- it was amazing!"

  • "I always go to the Jazz room, but this time my parents were in town for a concert and we were having an early dinner (6:15!) so we opted to be upstairs in the sunlight. Everything was fantastic. The Sushi is delicious, and all the fish dishes are done just right. We all got something different and all enjoyed our meal. We sat upstairs, which was really nice (a first for us) and our service was fantastic. Not rushed, but not slow. We had a great time and we look forward to going back."

  • "This was one of my favorite places to dine when in NYC. The menu has changed quite a bit from what we were used to. No chopped salad ,limited seafood selection and tries to be trendy."

  • "It had been a few months since we had last been to the BWG, and we decided to bring my niece and nephew in for a visit on the 4th of July. Upon our arrival, we noticed that the menu had dramatically changed. We stuck it out, and had a nice meal, but were not crazy about the reduction in offerings, and will certainly keep that in mind the next time we are considering BWG."

  • "always seen the place but never ate there until this past week when we enjoyed the wonderful and delicious food. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a nice romantic dinner, a great time with friends and or just fine food for a night"

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at the Blue Water Grill. The seafood tower was the highlight of our visit. The seafood salad and fritto misto were always scrumptious. The lemongrass pannacotta was divine! Our waiter was friendly and super informative. It is pricey, but worth the splurge."

  • "delicious and fresh, often featuring local produce from the union square farmers' market."

  • "Blue Water always does it well --- would that their Atlantic Grill concept were up to these standards. Maybe Union Square Café down the street has something to do with it. Seafood is fresh, simply prepared, and accompanied by sides form the greenmarket across the street. Tough to go wrong here."

  • "We skipped the apps and went right to the main courses. We both had the Filet Mignon special with shrimp, spinach and fingerling potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked and very juicy. The sauce served with it was fantastic. The shrimp were overcooked as they were pretty rubbery. The spinach and potatoes were cooked well and tasted delicious along side the steak and pan sauce. The bread was terrific and the people walking on the street made for good entertainment. One down fall to Cassis, the waiter was extremely french so he was a bit difficult to understand as he spoke so fast. But anyone speaking about food is talking my language so I was able to decipher his code."

  • "Had not been here in a while and I was truly disappointed. Very busy, and not sure why. Ordered a few simple sushi rolls and while they tasted fine they were so poorly constructed that they just fell apart. Service was standoffish and disinterested. There are way better fish and sushi places."

  • "I've been to Blue Water Grill a few times now and it's always excellent. I really enjoy the brunch with the complimentary cocktail. We had sushi which was so fresh and delicious. It melted in our mouths! The salmon benedict is also one of my favorites. Sitting on the balcony in the summer is my favorite. All in all, the food, service, & ambiance makes this restaurant a two thumbs up!!"

  • "Great food, eclectic and interesting. Terrible service--slow, but at the same time pushy in terms of the amount of food. Said the small plates were tiny (they were not) and tried to get us to order more. Otherwise, they were efficient."

  • "I've been going to Blue Water Grill for over ten years. The service used to be far better. They have recently changed the menu creating some strange pairings and removing some fantastic old favorites. Also they used to always give me great tables in recognition of my many years of patronage note the last two times we've been there they sat us as if we had never been there before. Overall disappointing. Stay away from the bonito butter!"

  • "We have dined at many B.R. Guest restaurants including Atlantic Grill (3rd. Ave. & Lincoln Center); Blue Fin; Isabella's; and Blue Water Grill. All have changed recently from near great to not so great. My experience at Blue Water Grill told me that not so great has become the norm. I searched the wine list to find a decent wine under $50.00, only to be told my $48.00 selection was out of stock, and no, they would not provide a similar wine at $50.00 for the same $48.00. Appetizer's were OK but under-sized, including octopus, four slices about the size of a half-dollar, and not much thicker. Entree's seem to measured in grams instead of ounces too. Not a great experience for sure, but you can bet it was my last at The Blue Water Grill."

  • "I have eaten in the Blue Water Grill many times and I don't know if they changed the menu or the Chef but this was a very disappointing experience. I ordered grilled shrimps and scallops for $28 and the plate arrived with four small to medium shrimps and two scallops, nothing more. It barely looked like an appetizer. The dessert menu was so sparse that we left and went to another place for dessert. I have always enjoyed the Blue water Grill but I'm not sure I will eat there again."
