Diner Reviews
  • "One of my favorites... wait! my favorite in NYC, I never fail going to the Blue Water grill when in the Bog Apple. Great food and cocktails. The place that I always pick to entertain."

  • "The food was phenomenal. I have a gluten allergy, and the staff and kitchen were attentive and made sure my plates came out with an allergy label on them, letting me know the kitchen had been paying attention and keeping the food separated. Do not miss the watermelon gazpacho -- it was amazing!"

  • "The tables are too close together to enjoy your conversation or dinner. But that is New York. Food was great, service great. Will be back"

  • "Had not been here in a while and I was truly disappointed. Very busy, and not sure why. Ordered a few simple sushi rolls and while they tasted fine they were so poorly constructed that they just fell apart. Service was standoffish and disinterested. There are way better fish and sushi places."

  • "I wasn't sure what I was getting into but I'm glad I went. Sitting outside was great and the fact that it was elevated was even better. Make sure to ask for John to be your server. He was amazing."

  • "This was one of my favorite places to dine when in NYC. The menu has changed quite a bit from what we were used to. No chopped salad ,limited seafood selection and tries to be trendy."

  • "It's pretty much my haunt, as well as my go-to whenever I have guests from out of town."

  • "It had been a few months since we had last been to the BWG, and we decided to bring my niece and nephew in for a visit on the 4th of July. Upon our arrival, we noticed that the menu had dramatically changed. We stuck it out, and had a nice meal, but were not crazy about the reduction in offerings, and will certainly keep that in mind the next time we are considering BWG."

  • "Inside I would have rated this lover on ambience and much higher on noise. But sitting outside on a beautiful summer evening made this really a perfect experience!"

  • "always seen the place but never ate there until this past week when we enjoyed the wonderful and delicious food. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a nice romantic dinner, a great time with friends and or just fine food for a night"

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at the Blue Water Grill. The seafood tower was the highlight of our visit. The seafood salad and fritto misto were always scrumptious. The lemongrass pannacotta was divine! Our waiter was friendly and super informative. It is pricey, but worth the splurge."

  • "We skipped the apps and went right to the main courses. We both had the Filet Mignon special with shrimp, spinach and fingerling potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked and very juicy. The sauce served with it was fantastic. The shrimp were overcooked as they were pretty rubbery. The spinach and potatoes were cooked well and tasted delicious along side the steak and pan sauce. The bread was terrific and the people walking on the street made for good entertainment. One down fall to Cassis, the waiter was extremely french so he was a bit difficult to understand as he spoke so fast. But anyone speaking about food is talking my language so I was able to decipher his code."

  • "delicious and fresh, often featuring local produce from the union square farmers' market."

  • "Blue Water always does it well --- would that their Atlantic Grill concept were up to these standards. Maybe Union Square Café down the street has something to do with it. Seafood is fresh, simply prepared, and accompanied by sides form the greenmarket across the street. Tough to go wrong here."

  • "I've been to Blue Water Grill a few times now and it's always excellent. I really enjoy the brunch with the complimentary cocktail. We had sushi which was so fresh and delicious. It melted in our mouths! The salmon benedict is also one of my favorites. Sitting on the balcony in the summer is my favorite. All in all, the food, service, & ambiance makes this restaurant a two thumbs up!!"

  • "Great food, eclectic and interesting. Terrible service--slow, but at the same time pushy in terms of the amount of food. Said the small plates were tiny (they were not) and tried to get us to order more. Otherwise, they were efficient."

  • "I've been going to Blue Water Grill for over ten years. The service used to be far better. They have recently changed the menu creating some strange pairings and removing some fantastic old favorites. Also they used to always give me great tables in recognition of my many years of patronage note the last two times we've been there they sat us as if we had never been there before. Overall disappointing. Stay away from the bonito butter!"

  • "We have dined at many B.R. Guest restaurants including Atlantic Grill (3rd. Ave. & Lincoln Center); Blue Fin; Isabella's; and Blue Water Grill. All have changed recently from near great to not so great. My experience at Blue Water Grill told me that not so great has become the norm. I searched the wine list to find a decent wine under $50.00, only to be told my $48.00 selection was out of stock, and no, they would not provide a similar wine at $50.00 for the same $48.00. Appetizer's were OK but under-sized, including octopus, four slices about the size of a half-dollar, and not much thicker. Entree's seem to measured in grams instead of ounces too. Not a great experience for sure, but you can bet it was my last at The Blue Water Grill."

  • "What a disappointment. Usually our experience at Blue Water Grill is 100% great. This time the meal was ruined by a wait person who couldn't have cared less about our food, our requests our comfort. Next time I'll ask to change waitresses."

  • "I have eaten in the Blue Water Grill many times and I don't know if they changed the menu or the Chef but this was a very disappointing experience. I ordered grilled shrimps and scallops for $28 and the plate arrived with four small to medium shrimps and two scallops, nothing more. It barely looked like an appetizer. The dessert menu was so sparse that we left and went to another place for dessert. I have always enjoyed the Blue water Grill but I'm not sure I will eat there again."

  • "Although I have given the Blue Water 3 stars in most categories the overall impression was less than the sum of its parts. Plus: We had an upstairs table which I recommend (it is much quieter than downstairs). Minus: The menu has been substantially downsized from what I remember from past visits. Thus, choices are limited. Nothing was bad, but nothing was memorable. The soup was cold. Portion size was frugal , prices were not. Service was fine. Once upon a time this was a "destination" dining spot. No more."

  • "The food was great as usual, but i would've been nicer if the waitress had smiled once in a while. Visiting New York we are always looking forward to our dinner there but she kind of killed our excitement a little bit :( We'll be back though, food is wonderful, great atmosphere and maybe the waitress is in a better mood next time."

  • "Throughout the years proven to be consistent with good food, good service"

  • "The food is good but the noise level is deafening. Shouting to be heard by dining companions."

  • "Our server was surprised that our group of successful women wanted to order only small plates (about 2 per person) rather than large multicourse meals. The small plates were perfect, just the right portion size. The chef used a bit too much cheese as a garnish on many different dishes for one member of the party. The celiac disease (wheat allergy) was readily accommodated by the kitchen."

  • "A bit disappointed as the halibut was over done. We had a very early dinner so it was not really busy. I am a regular and hate to have to give this place up"
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "The food wasn't as good as it used to be. They took the best salad (chopped salad) off the menu and the pork belly sliders were dry... I hope they fix these things because this used to be one of my favorite restaurants..."
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "Consistently perfect. The staff are very accomodating and I got a booth as I had requested. The menu offers a great selection and the food was amazing. The service ia great and so was the dessert! It is one of my favorite restaurants in the city except for their 3 other locations!"
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "This was mothers day and it was very nice. i would go back for dinner. The waitress became a bit lackluster with service after the restaurant became a bit more crowded. The food was good, ambience is outstanding."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "seems like this place has a hard time keeping up at brunch. the food should not come before the drinks. why does this happen? because the waitress is not responsible for bringing the drink order- or the food order. also please bring half and half with the coffee automatically. in general our waitress seemed overmatched to the task but maybe she was new.....etc etc. seems like dinner has better service."

  • "This was my second visit here for a business dinner meeting. I did not really care for the new menu, and I was disappointed that it wasn't the same as was found on Open Table.com. Part of the reason we returned was the Sunset Menu. The menu presented when we arrived had a lot of sushi offerings. The waiter pushed the sushi and what he wanted us to order. My dinner guest made the comment she thought he would go on forever. Anyway, the entree we ordered (swordfish with sweet potato/lobster hash) was delicious. The third party ordered lobster bisque and scallops. Not sure we will return here because the noise level is too high for business discussion. I do like the venue, however!"
