  • "Great seafood, good entertainment, great service. Not too crowded, great date spot"

  • "Great food but the menu changed. A lot of my favorites are gone to make room for new items. It is a shame but i guess change is good. If you have your heart set on a favorite, please take the time to look at the menu first. I had to take a star off...sorry Blue Water The band was great but they did not play jazz :)"

  • "Would have preferred the upstairs restaurant with outdoor seating, but Open Table only has the Jazz Room listed for a reservation. You can't switch, (we were informed) even when they were not busy. The food in this price range was okay but not outstanding in any way. Presentation was average and the wine reduction on the Filet of Beef tasted a little "ready-made"."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed having dinner while listening to a 4 piece Jazz band. The music was at a perfect level the entire evening. I would highly recommend this section of the restaurant to anyone looking for a little entertainment while dining. The Jazz room is a little dated and could use a refreshing but it was very clean and the food and service were excellent !"

  • "The food was very good but the service was terrible. Our waiter was missing in action. Half of our meal was served by the manager who was very apologetic. On the positive side, they removed the cost of the drinks as an apology, and gave me a free dessert for my birthday. I really liked the jazz combo which played well but the noise level was not obtrusive."

  • "Pre ordered champagne for table but brought after seated. Bottle put in ice bucket and placed away from table for waitress to refill. Waitress un attentive and had to go retrieve bucket myself to continue drinking. Starters arrived promptly followed 2 minutes later by main courses. Chef who brought mains very apologetic. Immediately finished starters main courses appeared again. They were not as hot as I would have liked but food quality good so I did not make a scene. I noticed 2 other diners at nearby table who had to go fetch the manager to get some attention and the place was not overly busy. I got the impression they were not really interested so I asked for the bill straight after finishing mains and left. Pity as food good."

  • "I usually love the Blue Water Grill Jazz Room - we go for all family celebrations. However, on this particular evening the band was playing Beatles songs and it was much louder than usual. My father put in ear plugs and there was a lot of shouting across the table. In addition, my mother ordered a medium rare steak which came out extremely rare. She asked for it to be sent back, to which the clearly overwhelmed waiter said, "just give me a second." Several minutes later he came back to take her food. It was brought back quite a bit later, after the rest of the family had finished their meals, and it was overdone. The manager was lovely and took the steak off the bill, but it was still a disappointing experience. "

  • "I brought my Mom here for Mother's Day. The food was great and the service was wonderful. The steamed shrimp dumplings, sea bass and fruit crumble were all delicious! We sat in the jazz room which is in the basement of the building, so the ambience was not anything special, but overall a very enjoyable evening. "

  • "Enjoyed the 3-piece jazz combo which played at a low volume, so it was not intrusive on our dinner conversation, but added an extra level of pleasure to our evening. The menu has all the kinds of seafood we wanted, from raw oysters, clams, large variety of sushi & delicious, cooked fresh fish. Plus we started with some yummy & creative cocktails. I had the Belmont & definitely recommend! Service was a bit slow, we couldn't find our waitress often & wondered why it took long to get our food & wine, but not a huge issue."

  • "wonderful early evening dinner with great music and great friends from out of town"

  • "The Jazz room has an entirely different atmosphere than the main restaurant. It is more subdued and sexy. A great place to impress a date. Music was great and not loud even though our table was pretty close to the band. The waiters were very friendly and attentive without being annoying. The small and intimate bar area is tucked away in a corner with a handful of bar stools, half dozen comfy seats and small tables. Very private while still being able to enjoy the music. I've lived in NYC for 60 years and worked in Manhattan for 42 yrs and have been to countless restaurants and clubs over the years. This is one of my favorites."

  • "I thought that the food and service was great as usual but the music was so loud that I could not have any conversation. The reason I have gone there in the past was the soft mellow Jazz music I will not be coming back to the Jazz Room but will dine upstairs in the future"

  • "When we first came in we were a bit taken aback, it was in the basement. However, the service was well above par, the food was very good, the prices were reasonable and the jazz was most rewarding We would recommend this location or anyone looking for good food and ambiance in thr Union Sqare area."

  • "Service was good but very disappointed in the food. I ordered the chiliean sea bass which was the signature dish and was not impressed. Way overpriced for the quality of food. Will not go back."

  • "My husband and I dined at the Blue Water Grill's Jazz Room on Sunday evening, 4/6/14. The room itself is pleasant enough, if a little bland and you really do feel like you are in the basement. Our waiter, whose name I sadly do not recall, was the highlight of our evening. He was personable, attentive without being overbearing, and very friendly. The food was ok - nothing great but we enjoyed it nonetheless. The jazz ensemble was good, if a little too loud, but again it was enjoyable. Next time I would book a table upstairs or out on the patio when the weather is better."

  • "I've been to Blue Smoke several times but only in the upstairs dining room. We decided to book a reservation with the Jazz room as a change of pace and because we like Jazz music. I was not impressed -- the band was on break more than they played. Further, they pack you in so that every time the next table or the wait staff has to get through, they end up hitting you by accident. For the price, the downstairs experience does not cut it. I love this restaurant and highly recommend it -- just make sure you are sitting in the main dining room and not downstairs in the Jazz room. It cheapens the entire experience."

  • "We were in New York City for our honeymoon. A friend of mine recommended this restaurant. It was exactly what we were looking for when we were searching for a romantic last night out celebrating our honeymoon. We had such a nice experience. We chose to be seated in the jazz room, and we were so pleased with that choice. Our waiter, when he asked where we were from was so excited to see a Pittsburgh couple! He loves our hockey team the Penguins. The food was exceptional and the dessert was even better. If you go, please order the banana ice cream tower - It is fabulous! Thanks for a memorable evening out!"

  • "The food is very good but I think that a different atmosfer mast be created in the jazz room with a different more soft music. The volome is to high and is not jazz"

  • "we had a great dinner: crispy fried calamari, lobster rolls and maki as appetizers then as entrees I took the salmon and my husband the tuna steak. The fish was great, perfectly cooked and fit with an amazing lobster smach potatoes and mushroorms. We ended with a vanilla cream brulet...delicious!The live jazz was very good...maybe they could have played a little bit more."

  • "I love this place! The band was excellent and played at the perfect volume. The menu is varied with many options. The service is excellent and the food was amazing. When I make a reservation using OpenTable I request a booth and that is exactly what they had for me. The desserts are great also and where can you get freshly baked chocolate chip cookies!"

  • "First time I used Open Table, in the city with a group of chorus members, we had a fantastic dinner at The Blue Water Grill and were treated most exceptionally by the staff, especially our server. Thank you for a lovely dining experience. We can't wait to return."

  • "Food and service levels were great. Hardly any waiting time for appetizers and entrees. Blackened Swordfish and Chilean Sea Bass were just right and full of flavor. Portion size was good - so much so there was not enough room for desert!. The ambience was great and the band outstanding playing a variety of music for all tastes. Well worth it."

  • "First and above all the food was fantastic. Sushi and dumplings were incredible. The entrée fish is cooked to perfection. The deserts are truly amazing... carmel cake, fudge, fruit and fondue.... all a must have. Finally, the music was great. What an excellent evening :)"

  • "Monday night during Restaurant week=no crowds, quick seating, attentive service. The RW menu posted online had changed completely by week 2. (Did you run out of all appetizers and entrees in one week bc of a busy week 1 or was it false advertising?) The menu had changed completely, so I ordered from the regular menu. The townhouse tower, supposedly for 1-2 diners, consisted of four mussels (good pico de gallo topping), four oysters (decent), two shrimp and half a small lobster tail (unremarkable), two clams and a small sauce dish of ceviche (both woeful) and one fresh, but teensy piece of king crab. The cooked clams were much better, as was the gelato served with the chocolate mousse cake. Band in the Jazz Room was enjoyable."
