Applauded for serving some of the city’s freshest and best seafood, Blue Water Cafe is housed in a stunning brick and beam heritage warehouse conversion in the heart of Yaletown.

Executive Chef Frank Pabst is known for his innovative and brilliantly executed West Coast plates, insisting on using seafood from wild and sustainable harvest, while Raw Bar Chef Yoshiya Maruyama is true to the Japanese culinary aesthetic of pure, clean flavours and ample portions that Blue Water Cafe has long been famous for.

  • "We took some out of town visitors to Blue Water Cafe to showcase the best Vancouver has to offer. Our friends live in NYC and Boston, travel a lot and have high standards. The whole experience was phenomenal, exceptional food, service and ambiance. We had a selection of oysters, ceviche, toro sashimi and seared hamachi (tsunami). I particularly liked the sashimi. For mains: scallops, sablefish, halibut and tuna. I tried the scallops and halibut: the scallops were delicate, while the halibut (which was on special) was deliciously rich. Our friends raved about their dishes, and were very impressed with the whole night. We'll go again for a romantic dinner or for a special meal."

However, because of a cancellation, we were quickly shown to a spacious booth. Server (Tara) was fantastic. Knew the menu, gave great recommendations, was engaging, and provided quality service. Food: Amazing seafood, never had better sablefish in my life. My BF and I ordered the Seafood Tasting for Two which was a great way for us to get to know all the appys in small portions - would strongly recommend this for all new-comers. The Dungeness Crab Salad was flavourful."

Everything (except maybe their seaweed flavored butter) was excellent. I do not like my fish even slightly over cooked and both preparations were really wonderful. The bar appeared to be hopping and the restaurant was full so clearly on a Thursday night it's a happening Vancouver place. Next time you are up in Canada make a reservation."

  • "The food served at Blue Water Cafe was flawless. Oysters were delicious and the sablefish and sturgeon perfectly cooked with nice points of contrast in composing the dish. Only one misstep - the service lagged in serving our wine selections with the main course. We were several bites into the main course when the wine arrived. The panna cotta desert was exceptional - accompanied by goat cheese, rhubarb pieces and gastrique/syrup. Nice composition of flavors and textures throughout the meal. Most deserving of recognition as one of Vancouver's very best restaurants."

  • "The seafood here is amazing! We had a special halibut sushi appetizer that we would never find elsewhere, and I also highly recommend the smoked salmon terrine. (I appreciate the thoughtful service; they split it for us onto two plates since we were sharing.) Char and sturgeon main courses: superb. Too full for dessert, but we took home a box of lovely macarons for later, which was such a good idea. The cocktail list is thoughtful and the drinks are made perfectly. This is one of the best restaurants we've been to."

This was a disappointment as we took pictures of this as a memento of the occasion. The fact that it was also my wife's birthday and our anniversary I was a little disappointed that the restaurant, as many do, did not comp the dessert for my wife."

  • "You will almost forget what you ate when you walk out the door. The presentation of the food is good but that's about it. The service is not anything to write home about either. How can there be no refill on water for the whole course of the dinner? We have to ask for water/drink when he gave us the bill in the end. Also, the food is just average and I am not ordering salad and normal thing if that's what you are thinking. Our table have ordered the seafood tower with lobster as appetizer. I, mysself, have kobe beef as entree. I am not a kitchen person but I think I can go to a super market, buy all the seafood and just put them on top of ice plates myself. The beef from Costco is actually better than the kobe beef."

  • "I was looking for a fancy but energetic place for a family member's birthday dinner when I found Blue Water Cafe online. The reviews were almost unanimously outstanding and so I booked a reservation. I could not have been any happier with my choice. The menu had a good variety, and the food itself was sublime. The service could not have been better even if the waiters could read our minds! And as for the atmosphere, it was literal perfection. A fancy, obviously high quality place that looks the part, while also hosting an active and happy buzz of activity. The noise was quite loud at times, but only in the sense of cheerful banter and laughter. I truly believe I found the perfect spot for any joyous occasion."
