Applauded for serving some of the city’s freshest and best seafood, Blue Water Cafe is housed in a stunning brick and beam heritage warehouse conversion in the heart of Yaletown.

Executive Chef Frank Pabst is known for his innovative and brilliantly executed West Coast plates, insisting on using seafood from wild and sustainable harvest, while Raw Bar Chef Yoshiya Maruyama is true to the Japanese culinary aesthetic of pure, clean flavours and ample portions that Blue Water Cafe has long been famous for.

  • "This place ROCKS! I had the Sablefish and it was fantastic! The Oysters were the best I've ever had. Our waiter, Chris, did a "mix and match" of 6 of his favorites. They were incredible! The service was impeccable, the food was fantastic and the ambiance was wonderful. The setting in the old warehouse with brick walls and huge timbers was really cool. The manager of the establishment came over to chat for a bit and make sure everything was to our liking. That always impresses me and tells me that they care about their customers. I would definitely recommend this place for dining with your sweetheart and creating some great memories... The wine list was impressive. Even the offerings by the glass and carafe were awesome. "

  • "Love the neighbourhood, great seafood restaurant. Entrees are not fussy they let the ingredients shine through. Our group had the halibut, sturgeon and a filet steak. The fish was buttery and perfectly cooked, and the steak was cooked exactly as ordered. Our waiter was helpful, friendly and always around when you needed him. Great experience overall!"

  • "the restaurant came highly recommended from a good friend in Houston. others with me were surprised I was able to secure reservation --- which wasn't a problem through OpenTable --- staff was very helpful in suggesting specials including amazing local oysters and fish. first run Halibut may be best piece of fish I have ever hard --- sales pitch included "catch this morning, cut this afternoon" --- it tasted like the story was true --- great wine list, somewhat pricey but appropriate for overall experience and other local venues. highly, highly recommend."

  • "My boyfriend and i have been to blue water several times, and because it is a pricy restaurant we usually only go there for special occasions. Their service and food never disappoints. It was a busy night (saturday night at 630pm), we were seated to our reserved table quickly. The service is usually outstanding, very attentive. However, the server we had this time seemed a little busy and unorganized compared to what we are used to. We waited about 10minutes before she came by to greet us, but I did see her explaining the menu to a different table when we came in, so that might've been the reason. Other than that, food is amazing as usual, and we will definitely be back!"

  • "The reputation of this restaurant is warranted and we had a lovely time. We loved the BC Seafood tasting and ordered the Cod and trout. The trout was pan fried and very rich but tasty. The cod was also wonderful and the portions were generous. Our favourite was the BC seafood tasting and had a great assortment of what the west coast has to offer. The desserts were fantastic and from our glances at other tables - the other dishes look fantastic too."

  • "Blue Water is one of my favourite restaurants to profile dining in Vancouver, especially to those from out of town. Food and service are consistently excellent, and our latest visit was no different. Great service by Nicole, halibut special was wonderful, sable fish was spectacular, sashimi and nigiri choices were delicious, good selection of BC wines. Bit loud for a business dinner at a round table for six, but to be expected for such a high-demand venue."

  • "We visited the BWC when on honeymoon in Vancouver, following a recommendation from a close friend. We were greeted enthusiastically upon arrival (a little early) and enjoyed a good cocktail at the bar before going to our table. We stuck to seafood and were delighted with the offering and accompanying drinks. The service was very good - until the bill arrived and we noticed six things we hadn't ordered or received. These were immediately removed on request, but slightly spoiled the overall impact of this wonderful restaurant (hence the 4* for service)"

Some high end restaurants tend to ignore or neglect single diners or smaller dining parties, that is not the case here. I loved the service, very attentive and friendly without being overbearing. PS.   • "Took my fiancee there for dinner on a Monday evening. The ambience was soothing and the restaurant was well laid out. The menu was not overly extensive which helped. I had the sashimi platter and she had the ling cod. We also shared the dragon roll and the korobuta pork cheek appetiser. The sashimi platter was a pleasure. You could tell the freshest fish were picked and the sweetness in the sashimi meant you could eat it without any soya sauce or wasabi. The ling cod was nice, but it is not something I would order again. It was good, but didn't shine. The dragon roll was a combination of fried prawns, unagi and avocado. The combination was perfect. The korobuta pork cheek was one of the best things I ever put in my mouth. Order it!"

  • "This is my second time being at Blue Water, as my friend insisted on coming here. We had reservations for 9 PM and we all arrived at 8:50 PM or so. I was disappointed in the fact that we didn't get our table until 9.30 PM. Our waiter was great though and food was great too, but I guess my thought is what's the point of making reservations if we're not going to even get a table at the time we reserved for? I understand they are a great restaurant and extremely busy, but someone could have at least let us know when we might get our table, or be a little more attentive instead of just having my entire party stand there."

Scallop first dish was a little oily but great taste and texture. The tsunami was delightful with thinly prepared jalapeño, but too much ginger. All in all great experience and attentive staff. Tip: the restaurant is very overwhelmingly loud."

  • "The food and service were great, except, my gf and I were seated at a table next to a wall, when plenty of open area tables were available, normally I speak up and ask for my favoured spot, but I didn't here trusting they would see the open tables.. I should have researched dress code, I assumed it was a dressy place, only to find lot's of people in t-shirts, albeit mostly kids, and asians, I myself am a 30yr old half black man, so no racism here. but it seems like everywhere people are getting more relaxed, and turning classy places into casual places, funny feeling being in a suit, with a table full of kids in t-shirts beside you texting lol.4/5"

Fabulous cocktail and wine lists, and the server was fantastic at helping us select great drinks as well as very helpful with the food menu. As my friend said, "I want to eat everything on this menu." We enjoyed oysters, sashimi, crab cakes, sablefish and scallops, and there was so much more left to try the next visit!"
