We had heard and read many great things about Blue Water Cafe; which our experience confirmed. The food is fabulous, the service was great, friendly and enjoyable as well as the atmosphere which was lively and uplifting. Additionally, they were excellent explaining the menu, matching wine with our food and happily spent the time needed. Without a request, a manager walked by and spoke with us for a while; which was enjoyable and informative. A great restaurant; which we look forward to returning to again.

My take on this place is that it badly needs a refresh or they need to go back to basics. What I experienced was uninspired dishes that were executed poorly. It seems like this place thinks it can get by on the fact that it serves seafood. They need to put more care into their dishes (e.g. My scallops were burnt) and think about creating a dish where every element on the plate is worthwhile. I was shocked that my scallops came on a bed of greasy diner style onions--yuck! Vancouverites expect more. Will never return.

It was my first time at Blue Water Cafe and it was well worth the wait! I've walked past many many times and always said I wanted to go in. I finally decided to celebrate my birthday with dinner there. It was a little overwhelming at first but our server Tara was exceptional. She took us through the menu, the wine list. Her knowledge was truly amazing, she really takes her job seriously and delivers what she knows effectively. The food was outstanding!!! From the Tasting Menu to the main course, every bite was fresh. The most delicious meal to celebrate a special occasion.

We had a birthday celebration at the Blue Water Cafe. The food was nearly perfect, the service perfectly attentive without being overbearing and the atmosphere very pleasant, if a little loud. The prices matched the high quality of the place, but the cost was well worth the experience.

Our shared dinner was Kobe beef short ribs which were very good. My "complaint" is the menu was quite limited so making a choice was somewhat difficult. The restaurant is located in the trendy Yaletown district and I'm sure that influenced the high restaurant prices.

Had a wonderful dinner at The Blue Water Cafe last week. Staff are most attentive, pleasant and personable. The atmosphere is convivial and energetic but doesn't overpower the experience. The food is outstanding and the wine list is extensive and covers all the bases and then some. We ate sushi and sashimi. The tuna is like butter and the salmon is so delicate you barely need to chew. The crab was outstanding. They offered bread with the meal which I usually never eat. It came with an herb butter and a red pepper bean tapenade. I tried it and then asked for more. The menu also offered some beef choices which sounded delicious. Unfortunately we live in Toronto and the beef ail have to wait until our next visit.

The Blue Water Cafe was the best dining experience that I have enjoyed for many years. Everything from the rolls (and the spreads) to the espresso were impeccable. Although we opted for an Okanagan standard, the wine list is most impressive. The first course, consisting of oysters on the half shell, was fresh, varied and delicious. Both the Sable fish and the Scallop entrees were cooked to perfection with imaginative accompaniments. The finishing touch was a sweet meringue-based confection (macaron) that had a fluffy exterior with a firm, but delicate, filling. All in all ... outstanding.

This restaurants menu has everything you would want to order something for all types of cuisine. The outdoor patio was very nice and the staff was very friendly. The whole dining experience was very good. We ordered a variety or raw and cooked seafood as well as amazing tenderloin. The desserts we amazing the best ones were the lemon tart and the lava cake. The wine list is like a novel there are so many to choose from so there is a wide variety to please everyone.

Generally, the food was very good, although a bit pricey. Sushi was kind of disappointing because the sushi rice was too firm - almost seemed a bit undercooked. Fish was very fresh, although we've had much higher quality tuna and toro in Japan and Hawaii. For the price, we were expecting close to top of the line. Loved the Dungeness/seaweed/cucumber salad and the pork cheeks! Oysters were also fabulous. Service was outstanding! Our server, Jennifer, was awesome. She was very friendly and upbeat, yet extremely professional. She anticipated our needs before we even thought about them. Would return the next time we are in Vancouver.

Possibly my 3rd time dining at Blue Water and it is superb. Many of my medical acquaintances deem this their favourite restaurant in Vancouver. I concur. Service was outstanding. The food was colourful in presentation and the taste, devine. Chicken and Halibut were the dishes of choice for this particular evening. Don't miss the dessert course either. It was a Monday night, we were dining on the patio and when I went inside for a moment, the entire room was packed. That says it all.

Top notch fish, ambience and service and priced accordingly. Salmon sashimi does not get any better than this. Amazing Dungeness crab, seaweed and cucumber appetizer. Mains included perfectly cooked sablefish with a miso sake glaze in yuzu dashi and pumpernickel crusted sturgeon with cauliflower purée and golden beets. Popular restaurant for good reasons: great food; handsome, understated ambience; and efficient and friendly service. Want fish when in Vancouver? Look no further. Bonus: if you are a single malt lover, Blue Water Cafe likely has your drink.

Dined last year at the Blue Water and again this year. Returning on this trip for a 2nd time this evening. Consistent overall - well run operation. Do not think you will be disappointed by this restaurant. My only complaint and applies to many Vancouver restaurants is the outrageous prices for wines. The blame lies with the government's taxation policies.

Dined here on the 6th Sept 2014. The food was excellent and totally lived up to the expectation. The two things which stop me giving it 5 stars are the Wine list and our over worked waiter. The waiter was excellent, knowledgeable and helpful, just over worked. I can never get over a place that isn't on top of getting you a drink or a refill, always seems just like money left on the table aside from anything else. The wine list was OK, but given how good the food is, the wine list should be much more extensive and much better. I know wine is stupidly expensive in Canada, but even so, the list should be filled out better. Poor selection of fizz, by the glass is an example. However overall, I would recommend it and will be sure to go back.

We enjoyed a lovely evening on the patio. Surprisingly it wasn't noisy and even seemed a bit intimate while being 'out' on the street so to speak... it was quiet enough that we could enjoy a quiet conversation over our meal. The service was 'spot on' and the food was wonderfully prepared and delicious. The husband loved his oysters to start, and said they were the best he'd had in a long time because they were so fresh. My sablefish melted in my mouth... light yet savory. The husband ordered the halibut special which was meatier than my sablefish yet light and flaky. Everything was fantastic!
