We loved the restaurant. Fun area of town. Great Menu. I would skip the Ceviches....too much going on in them. I know they wanted to do their own take on ceviche but, it was too sweet and felt like they tried to hard. The fish get lost in it. That is what is great about ceviche...simplicity. The scallop appetizer was nice and Sablefish was cooked perfectly. Miso marinade seems to be the craze in Vancouver right now (saw it at 3 restaurants). Nice flavor.

Started with oysters and followed up with sashimi. Incredible taste and ridiculous freshness made this meal unforgettable from the food perspective. Great service and a good energetic atmosphere completed the night. We also ordered the truffle Parmesan fries which deserve an honorary mention. Will go out of my way to eat here again.

The food here was excellent and the service good. The seafood plateau was very good, especially the oysters, the scallop ceviche and the jellyfish. The main courses were also excellent, and the molten chocolate dessert was happily devoured. I realize this is a high end restaurant, but I found the wine list somewhat lacking in the moderately priced, lighter reds that I prefer.

Our server (Tanya, I think?) was great. She made excellent recommendations and was very knowledgeable about what could be done to accommodate fussy dinners - nothing with beets, please! We also enjoyed her choices of wine. Many thanks. Both the seafood dishes and some of the wines, give a tasty overview of what's good about BC.

We are seafood lovers and were really looking forward to this second visit but it was disappointing. Enjoyable but not outstanding as expected (having been impressed by Roy's in various locations in the US since last visit), maybe because we ordered the daily specials (golden trout and halibut) and not tried and true menu selections. Even the roast red pepper homous type spread that came with bread wasn't that good, and the tuna carpaccio starter was bland. Did enjoy the swimming scallops starter though. Service was excellent and we thoroughly appreciated our efficient, professional and informative server, and speedy delivery of everything without asking.

I met my parents in Vancouver for the weekend and I had been scouting out your restaurant for about a year from Seattle before I moved to BC to go to University. You did not disappoint! Absolutely everything was divine. Each bite was perfection, every detail was accounted for. Our waiter helped us select the perfect bottle of wine for the meal and helped us make decisions on the menu (I could not decide for the life of me -- I wanted everything but we eventually settled on some excellent choices). Thank you for the incredible dining experience - I will definitely be back ASAP. Cheers!

Marvellous place, great service, cuisine excellent. We had a fish platter to share as appetizer, crab cocktail the BEST, but all very good. Char as main dish... do not eat your cutlery. When we asked what people liked most, our waiter responded, 'oh, uh, they just walk in here and know what thy like to order'.. Arghh.. wished I was one of the regulars.

The ambiance was welcoming and warm, but not overwhelming, the waiter polite and knowledgeable. We had a seafood tasting for two, consisting of dungeness crab and baby shrimps, scallop ceviche, albacore tuna tartare smoked sockeye salmon terrine with a local sparkling wine. The food was fresh and a wonderful mix of surprising but harmonious flavors. As entrees: Sablefish in miso sake glaze, baby bok choy, edamame, quinoa and shiitake mushrooms yuzu dashi and scallops caramelized belgian endives, wild rice griddle cake candied ginger and citrus sauce paired with a fresh Riesling. A wonderful experience and a restaurant I highly recommend to anybody interested in exceptional fish dishes presented in a way beyond traditional cooking.

We made reservations ahead of time and were taken to (what we assume was) their wine cellar. It was perfect; quiet enough to not have to have a chat without needing to raise our voices at any point. My girlfriend and I shared the seafood tasting for two, twelve oysters, toro sashimi and the sablefish. Everything tasted great but we were blown away by the sablefish. We ordered it after reading reviews praising it and we were definitely impressed. It was so buttery and delicious, we had to emphasize how good it was between bites. Our server (unfortunately did not mention his name) was great! He was very welcoming and attentive. All in all, one of the best meals we've had. Definitely recommended!

My husband loves oysters, and they were an outstanding appy choice. I wanted a salad, and find it weird to literally only have mixed greens...how hard is that to prepare, plus asked for olive oil only for my dressing and the waiter delivered with balsamic and then with lemon and olive oil and finally just olive oil. We had sable fish and halibut. Nice presentation. Lots of families, couples and groups of friends: busy, but not a rushed feeling. Big BC wine selection, many price ranges so tourists understand the fantastic wine growing in province, but can choose their price. A nice place to celebrate. Yaletown is a popular area, but luckily, there is, if needed, a garage within easy walking distance of restaurant.

This was our second time here. We all live in Singapore, and 2 of us eat here prior to joining an Alaskan cruise in May. We were back for the wedding of two friends in Oct, and booked here as soon as the dates were confirmed to give the married couple a treat. The distance we came for dinner must prove something - and all four diners are uber-fussy Chinese foodies!! We had the three layer tower as a starter - and the mix of meat and fish for entrees were also superb. The local wine as recommended by our gracious, helpful, professional waiter was superb. The range of whiskies (the other temptation that drew us back), at the bar after the meal is also very impressive (if not particularly cheap) We all left satisfied and replete

This is my third time at the Blue Water Cafe. All have been great and this is a word I do not use lightly. All three of us on this occasion enjoyed the food and the service was simply superior. It was a busy Friday night but service was never rushed. The server knew the menu and made a number of helpful suggestions. When they were out of my first choice from their 50+ list of single malts and I declined their recommeded alternative (only because I had had it), the bartender took the time to come to the table and personally make an alternate suggestion. The wine was not kept at the table but was always topped up when needed -- this is a feat that few places manage let alone when busy. Highly recommended.

We had heard and read many great things about Blue Water Cafe; which our experience confirmed. The food is fabulous, the service was great, friendly and enjoyable as well as the atmosphere which was lively and uplifting. Additionally, they were excellent explaining the menu, matching wine with our food and happily spent the time needed. Without a request, a manager walked by and spoke with us for a while; which was enjoyable and informative. A great restaurant; which we look forward to returning to again.

My take on this place is that it badly needs a refresh or they need to go back to basics. What I experienced was uninspired dishes that were executed poorly. It seems like this place thinks it can get by on the fact that it serves seafood. They need to put more care into their dishes (e.g. My scallops were burnt) and think about creating a dish where every element on the plate is worthwhile. I was shocked that my scallops came on a bed of greasy diner style onions--yuck! Vancouverites expect more. Will never return.

My wife and I ate from the traditional seafood menu one night and from the sushi/sashimi menu the next evening. We were doubly delighted. The food presentation and quality was simply superb. Our wait staff was very knowledgeable and helpful, and made you feel welcome and relaxed from the outset. The wine list was comprehensive both in North American and International varieties. The location is easy to walk or train to, even for a Vancouver novice. The atmosphere in the restaurant was busy and vibrant, and perhaps would require some planning for a quiet, romantic dinner for two. Apart from that I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant if you really want a memorable dining experience.
