Blue Tavern is 2011 Food & Wine Magazine Best Chef In America Chef Ricardo Zarate new restaurant concept. Blue Tavern is a Cali-Peruvian restaurant that serves elegant food in a casual environment. Famed Mixologist Deysi Alvarez has created seasonal hand crafted cocktail. The wine list has great local wines and latin wines.
Pizzas from the wood-burning oven, hand-made pastas, fresh local seafood from nearby waters are the centerpieces of the frequently changing menu.

  • "We enjoyed our food and cocktails here. I'm not usually a big beet fan, but their beet salad was great. I also enjoyed the Yellowtail and my Pisco Sour was delicious. The cauliflower is good but hearty and rich! We ordered 5 items and shared them all family style plus had desert. So, we got to try a l lot of things. Not all the food items went well together, so I appreciated the fact that the server staggered what would've clashed. Although our table was comfortable for 5 (a banquet) I'm not a big fan of being seated so close to the bathrooms. I made the reservation way in advance, and called to confirm but I guess you have to ask for a good table even in addition to that. Thankfully their kitchen is OK to look at b/c it was RIGHT there."

  • "Noise levels for dinner on a Friday night were so loud we ended up having to scream at each other in order to hear our conversation. The restaurant really does it up nice for birthdays, with the gooey chocolate cake & ice cream. Yum! Happy Hour drinks are good value."

  • "Loved the food, though their menu is suited for sharing so they brought each one of the 4 items the 4 of us ordered separately. Wished they would have brought them all at the same time and we would have shared that way. The way they did it made the evening very long and we had to wait between the times they brought each item. WAY TOO NOISY.....we were shouting at each other by the end of our meal. Not sure why modern architects don't take this into consideration, hard wood floors, no drapery, not carpeting, nothing on the ceilings to absorb the noise. Probably won't revisit this place because of the noise factor. Too many other restaurants in this town that we can have a conversation at without having to shout.............."

  • "Love the pumpkin quinoa stew. Very filling and nice flavors. Sea urchin crab toast was a little greasey and I personally didn't care for the combination or the gel like sweet sauce. Ceviche with fried calamari was fun but portion size could be reduced by half. Was way too big for starter. The branzino was cooked to perfection! Crispy skin and moist meat! Downside is its less than half block from train station and it's loud when train goes through. Plus is there is valet parking. I hope they make smaller portions or a tasting menu so you can try more of the fun stuff!"

  • "The food is fantastic… Tuna Crostini was amazing, Branzino with Jalapeño Sauce fantastic… Quinoa Risotto to die for… Pappardelle with Filet is beautiful. Thank you for coming to SB. Food is arguably as good or better than Lark, but without the attitude or the rushed service. Still a bit noisy on a Friday night, but great energy. Went on Sunday evening as well and it was much mellower."

  • "Very good food, for which we would go back. However, dinner ( 5 dishes) was served within the hour! Little too fast! I get it is tapas style, but a leisure dinner can't be served under be hour!! Burrata salad simple but well executed. Mussels very good, see urchin and scallop on toast was outstanding! Pizza very good, quinoa and pumpkin dish very average, if chef feel the need to add raw onion to it, it'd better be finely chopped, nobody wants eat chunk of raw onion!! Noise level horrible!"

  • "I was visiting Santa Barbara and tried this restaurant because my son recommended it. The restaurant has an open dining room that connects the indoor dining area to the outdoor patio, for warmer nights. The patio has heaters that project a comfortable temperature. I ordered the Margarita Pizza and Beets & Heirloom Tomato Salad, with an Ice Tea. It was excellent! The staff was very friendly and my food was served in a timely manner.. I recommend this restaurant! I made my reservation late Friday afternoon, via open table, and they had my table ready for me when I arrived."

  • "I was looking forward to trying this new restaurant with my visiting family and was disappointed. We ordered the ceviche and it was so sour it was inedible. When I complained about it to my server I received a curt response : "It's ceviche". I will not go into all the restaurants in town and around the world where I have had ceviche. Needless to say I know what ceviche is, and thi s was terrible. The arrogant, dismissive response from the server was even worse. The rest of the meal was good to great. The beet salad and pappardelle were wonderful. However the inattentive, and arrogant service left me feeling I would not return or recommend it."

  • "We arrived early on a Saturday night (5:30). There were four of us, and we were put at a table that at best fit 2. We asked to be moved and were told that "all other tables are taken". The restaurant was about half full. We order two appetizers and three wood burning pizzas. The appetizers arrived (and were excellent). The first pizza did not arrive for at least one hour. The second and third pizzas followed with at least 15-20 minutes between each pizza, so we were not only hungry, but left with no food for fairly long periods. When we asked why this was happening, we were told "they were very busy". The quality of the wood burning pizzas was good, but certainly not worth a 90 minute wait. We would not return here."

  • "Very noisy. Booths very cramped for 4 people. While each individual dish was good, there is too much repetition of creamy spicy sauces, and with such a very small menu, hard to branch out to get variety. Pizza just OK; crust not crispy. Branzino excellent. Overall too much salt! RE service, for 4 people and our first visit, we wanted to try a number of dishes so ordered a pizza, 2 appetizers, a salad and each of us had a main course. Food arrived in such rapid succession that we couldn't finish one thing before another arrived - .i.e. too rushed. Think for everything, we paid are were out in just over an hour, so if you're looking for fast food, this may be your place."

  • "This is what a good restaurant should be! Blue Tavern has great food, good and friendly service, and great ambiance. The right formula for success. Every item in the menu is worth trying, I never thought I'd like mussels, but the way they were prepared was too hard to resist. My absolute favorite was the seafood risotto but its serious contestant was the sea bass ...perfection! This place was overdue in Santa Barbara, the staff seems very happy and welcoming.   • "The menu is a mix of main courses and small plates. For some reason even though we each ordered separately main course and starters our waiter seemed to think we would want to share everything so dishes came out one at a time. Once I figured out what was happening I mentioned it to what I think was the manager. Things got better then. I believe our waiter must have been new and not well trained. The food was generally good and interesting. I thought the decor was a little too clinical and it was definitely noisier than to my liking. I had heard rave reviews so I may have expected too much."

  • "The food was generally excellent. The mussels were fresh and tasty, but much too salty. The same observation was made by friends at another table. The Branzino was great. The tuna crostini appetizer was also great. The prosciutto pizza was very tasty and cooked perfectly. We specified that the pizza was a main course along with 2 branzino and 1 mussel dish, but it arrived with the appetizers and the other main dishes were about 10 minutes later. Not good!"

  • "I love this restaurant. The Margherita pizza was excellent--the sauce was wonderful (and not the standard tomato) and there was not too much cheese so the crust was perfect. The sea bass ceviche was in a wonderful sauce that was quite flavorful. So glad they found such a wonderful replacement in this space. My only complaint is that it is a bit overpriced (as was the predecessor restaurant). However, this is typical with restaurants that are attached to hotels."
