Great local spot, very flavorful
and unique dishes"

We have always had great meals at
Blue Tavern, and put up with the noise level and inconsistent service. But this time, it was the worst. We sat inside in a booth, but it was so hot we are all dripping. Our waitress, while very nice, was all over us to order, but it took two requests to even get our cocktails. One item never arrived, yet she kept pushing. "Let's get the food going," Really, we'd only been sitting there for a few minutes! The patio dining isn't particularly special -- it's on busy State Street, right on the sidewalk, but would have been the better choice because it was so darn hot inside. Only saving thing was the food, but the ambiance: so loud you must scream to be heard, well we couldn't wait to get out of there."

Blue Tavern gets my vote for the
loudest restaurant in Santa Barbara. Yell-across-the-table-to-be-heard loud. While the food was quite good, the noise levels make this a place I'll never return to."

Amazing, amazing, AMAZING. This
little restaurant is new and a must. We had drinks -- nice to have the option of $5 glasses of wine during happy hour. We had the tomato and beet salad (extra good) -- very fresh and just enough different to distinguish it from others. I had the pumpkin quinoa stew ... fell in love! My sister had the mushroom pizza and it was really tasty too. The Peruvian emphasis blended with 'normal recipe' touches everything has a wonderfully 'new' and unexpected twist. Can't wait to get back next summer but wish it was much sooner. Congratulations to the owners and chef for this worthy addition to the Santa Barbara food scene."

A pary of 4 of us went for brunch
on a Saturday morning and we couldn't have been more pleased! The food was delicious -a combination of creative and fresh, and the service was great. We left our plates clean, and we cannot wait to go back for dinner!"

We were so lucky to find Blue
Tavern! I believe it was actually through Open Table! We were at the Solstice parade and were looking for a place for 8 people to have lunch after, found this by accident, and had an unbelievable delicious meal! The nice part was that we could have delicious seafood (branzino is remarkable!) and the kids could have pizza - a win win for all! The service was VERY NICE! I would say not to go super hungry as the food came out a bit slowly, but we would not hesitate to go back and as a matter of fact will do so this week!"

We came here for lunch after a
recent graduation at UCSB. Lovely place, accommodating service, and great lunch specials. Delicious pizzas done in a wood burning oven. Only problem was that our 3 meals came out at different times and after waiting for all 3 diners to be served, the diner whose pizza arrived first no longer had a hot pizza."
Dined on 6/14/2014
As always, the food, service and
wine were wonderful. Our favorite go-to-restaurant."
Dined on 6/13/2014
We ate here for Father's Day
dinner 2014, as well as a business lunch the Thursday before, and dinner the week before last. So I have gone 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Everytime the food has been excellent, and the service very nice, attentive, and friendly. They do NOT have a kids menu per se, but they have a wood fire pizza oven to make kid friendly pizzas, and they made homemade parpadelle pasta with a béchamel sauce for my picky 7 year old per our request. Be sure to try the mussels, one of their awesome thin crust pizzas, the parpadelle pasta with beef, and cauliflower side dish. Great new place in SB!"

We got there at happy hour and
noticed some nice glasses of wine for $5 and $8. The waitress suggested a special wine that was really great....and we assumed it was off the specials list. Wine was great....but...it was $20/ glass. I can't say were were deliberately decieved (the waiters were very gracious)...but in my world, if a recommended glass of wine is $20 a pop, I'd like to have some polite indication of it.....especially since I had ordered a $5 glass of the specials list (indicating my idea of what I want to pay for wine)"

Usually when you try a bunch of
plates to share, at least 1 is kinda "meh" but not here - we loved every dish and scraped it wanting more!"
Dined on 6/7/2014
The house was very responsive
about moving our 4-some o/s as noise inside is DEAFENING! Sweet service, mgmt & servers anxious to please but they couldn't seem to produce a well orchestrated meal to 4. Tho they warned us the food wouldn't come out at same time (why not?)they left one in our group without any meal at all & attempts to remedy were botched. Sauces can be spicy & neither server nor menu alert unsuspecting diners. Interesting street scene especially the Sunday we dined. They try hard but the kitchen needs to try harder to organize their set up."

Unexpected combination of yummy
tastes. Great spot in up an coming Urban Wine Trail in Santa Barbara"

Awesome service, very helpful and
unreal, unique food with a little spice to it ! We will definitely be back!"
Dined on 5/26/2014
Wonderful food at reasonable
prices. The beet salad, calamari, tuna custini and especially the brancino were all great. "
Dined on 5/24/2014
The pizza was tasty and
reminiscent of Italy's thin crusted, wood-fired perfection. The appetizers from the happy hour were reasonably priced with interesting flavors. You can't beat a $5 glass of wine. Go before 6:30 and you can enjoy an extra treat. There are Peruvian spices that add a twist to the "Califorian" theme. I say bring it on. The influence from Argentina and Peru make this restaurant stand out from the rest."
Dined on 5/22/2014
We were lucky enough to go to BT
twice, once for happy hour and then for dinner the following day. For the happy hour, we had the beet, tomato and burrata salad that was the best beet salad I have had. (And I eat lots of beet salads) It was well balanced and the addition of a tiny crusted sugar coating on the beets was delightful. We had a great dinner the next night as well and the service was knowledgeable and very accommodating to our non-meat requests, replacing the prosciutto on the goat cheese pizza with a variety of mushrooms. The only thing I felt was missing were a few more vegetarian options and a salad or two. We will definitely go back next time we are in SB."
Dined on 5/17/2014
I really liked this restaurant the
first few times I went, but tonight it was just about average. The cauliflower was excellent, the quinoa pumpkin stew was good, and the mussels were not good. The mussels were so small that they should have removed the item from the night's menu."
Dined on 5/10/2014
The staff here was excellent, very
attentive and delightfully nice. The food is so unique & the best part is everything is made from scratch, farm-to-table. The serrano sauce they use on pizza will tantalize the tastebuds and the ceviche is so bright and tasty. Everything I have ever ordered here has been gobbled up... especially the cocktails!"

Great dining experience.
Energetic, upbeat atmosphere just a long block from beach and around the corner from Santa Barbara's hot new Funk Zone! Also benefits from recently expanded sidewalk that adds a great, outdoor eating experience (and significantly reduces the previous noise level inside the restaurant). Light and tasty Cali-Peruvian menu, served by cheerful and attentive staff. A great place for locals and fun for visitors, too! "

Sat down fast. Rose handed to my
wife for Mother's Day. Waited 45min for food. Never was told why there was a wait. Would of asked but servers were not available. Did get 20% discount and apology from Manager but no explanation on what was going on. French Toast was good. Wife didn't like her under cooked omelet. I also do like dogs, But don't think the should be allowed in any restaurant. "
Dined on 5/11/2014
We had a delicious meal here and
the service was excellent. What ruined the experience for us was that the music was so loud that we could not hear each other talk."
Dined on 5/6/2014
The bronzino was the best I have
ever had. The waitresses were good but the service was poor due to the kitchen. Each of us (4 people) ate at different times because our food was served at different times. Our side dishes were brought out last after everyone finished their entrees. "

The mixilogist is a true artist!!!
This is hands down the best place for cocktails in santa barbara!! "
Dined on 5/3/2014
Top quality, freshest ingredients
and wonderful twists on ceviche and sea bass leave me longing to return ASAP!! Unique combinations of flavors explode on the palate, where you can taste each ingredient both individually and in combination. Exquisite!"
Dined on 5/1/2014
The place is very pretty, and the
server was terrific. The dish I had just didn't taste good. It was a ceviche dish that was way-over-the-top too tart."
Dined on 4/27/2014
I'm a foodie....with so many
choices in Santa Barbara I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of flavors at Blue Tavern. The 4 of us opted to share 4 different small plates as they looked a lot more interesting than the entrees and we were not disappointed. Everything thing was tastey and beautiful. We will come back! It is noisy in there but fun!"
Dined on 4/25/2014
The Blue Tavern offers a concise
yet fantastic menu, but we felt a little rushed. First course came to the table seconds after our drinks arrived and the main course appeared just as we had taken the first few bites of our appetizers. Great place to go if you need to get in and out in 30 minutes"
Dined on 4/23/2014
The restaurant is warm and
inviting....the food is great and not the run of the mill...The Crab Hash is awesome!!!! "
Dined on 4/20/2014
We enjoyed our food and cocktails
here. I'm not usually a big beet fan, but their beet salad was great. I also enjoyed the Yellowtail and my Pisco Sour was delicious. The cauliflower is good but hearty and rich! We ordered 5 items and shared them all family style plus had desert. So, we got to try a l lot of things. Not all the food items went well together, so I appreciated the fact that the server staggered what would've clashed. Although our table was comfortable for 5 (a banquet) I'm not a big fan of being seated so close to the bathrooms. I made the reservation way in advance, and called to confirm but I guess you have to ask for a good table even in addition to that. Thankfully their kitchen is OK to look at b/c it was RIGHT there."

Noise levels for dinner on a
Friday night were so loud we ended up having to scream at each other in order to hear our conversation. The restaurant really does it up nice for birthdays, with the gooey chocolate cake & ice cream. Yum! Happy Hour drinks are good value."
Dined on 4/14/2014
Loved the food, though their menu
is suited for sharing so they brought each one of the 4 items the 4 of us ordered separately. Wished they would have brought them all at the same time and we would have shared that way. The way they did it made the evening very long and we had to wait between the times they brought each item. WAY TOO NOISY.....we were shouting at each other by the end of our meal. Not sure why modern architects don't take this into consideration, hard wood floors, no drapery, not carpeting, nothing on the ceilings to absorb the noise. Probably won't revisit this place because of the noise factor. Too many other restaurants in this town that we can have a conversation at without having to shout.............."
Dined on 4/11/2014
Love the pumpkin quinoa stew. Very
filling and nice flavors. Sea urchin crab toast was a little greasey and I personally didn't care for the combination or the gel like sweet sauce. Ceviche with fried calamari was fun but portion size could be reduced by half. Was way too big for starter. The branzino was cooked to perfection! Crispy skin and moist meat! Downside is its less than half block from train station and it's loud when train goes through. Plus is there is valet parking. I hope they make smaller portions or a tasting menu so you can try more of the fun stuff!"
Dined on 4/8/2014
The food is fantastic… Tuna
Crostini was amazing, Branzino with Jalapeño Sauce fantastic… Quinoa Risotto to die for… Pappardelle with Filet is beautiful. Thank you for coming to SB. Food is arguably as good or better than Lark, but without the attitude or the rushed service. Still a bit noisy on a Friday night, but great energy. Went on Sunday evening as well and it was much mellower."
Dined on 4/4/2014
I had great hopes for my first
time here. Even though it hints at Peruvian, there is nothing Peruvian on the menu. Chicken was dry. Ignored Open Table request. Valet left before 9:15pm, needed to search for my car."
Dined on 4/3/2014
We loved the food and the unusual
Peruvian/CA fusion BUT the room is entirely too noisy. I couldn't hear my husband who was sitting across from me. He said he will not return even tho food was so good. Can they dampen the noise somehow?"
Dined on 4/1/2014
Very good food, for which we would
go back. However, dinner ( 5 dishes) was served within the hour! Little too fast! I get it is tapas style, but a leisure dinner can't be served under be hour!! Burrata salad simple but well executed. Mussels very good, see urchin and scallop on toast was outstanding! Pizza very good, quinoa and pumpkin dish very average, if chef feel the need to add raw onion to it, it'd better be finely chopped, nobody wants eat chunk of raw onion!! Noise level horrible!"
Dined on 3/22/2014
A few friends and I went here for
the first time on Monday night and loved it! The seafood dishes were creative, different so flavor land beautifully presented! The pizzas are awesome and so unique! Great bar and wonderful service!"
Dined on 3/17/2014
Food was good. Staff very helpful
and attentive. The noise level was too high to be able to talk without yelling. This will likely limit the number of times we return for dinner."
Dined on 3/14/2014
I was visiting Santa Barbara and
tried this restaurant because my son recommended it. The restaurant has an open dining room that connects the indoor dining area to the outdoor patio, for warmer nights. The patio has heaters that project a comfortable temperature. I ordered the Margarita Pizza and Beets & Heirloom Tomato Salad, with an Ice Tea. It was excellent! The staff was very friendly and my food was served in a timely manner.. I recommend this restaurant! I made my reservation late Friday afternoon, via open table, and they had my table ready for me when I arrived."
