  • "Gluten free menu is terrific - esp the burrata and beef hash! Will definitely return."

  • "Great restaurant with amazing food and a great wine list. The service was excellent as well."

  • "We arrived at 7:30pm on a Wednesday night, and the place was empty aside from 3 other tables. From the get-go the service was slow, inaccurate (pistachios were all over a dish even though it wasn't listed as an ingredient on the menu - and my partner is allergic), and at times downright confrontational. We had an OpenTable gift certificate, and between 3 staff members they couldn't figure out how to apply it to our bill. It was an awkward 30 mins of back-and-forth that for awhile I thought was going to end with them saying we couldn't use the certificate. In the end they did take the value off of our check, but I left with a bad taste in my mouth. The food was good but grossly over-priced considering the overall dining experience."

  • "Our visit to Blue Star for our anniversary dinner was outstanding. The ambiance is lovely with good music that is not too loud, lovely art, and design of the dining areas. The food was wonderful - I ordered 3 of the small plates, each better than the last: bacon wrapped dates - beautifully done with the bacon crispy on the outside, bruschetta with grilled nectarines and creamy burrata mozz., and the arugula and endamame pesto. My husband's pasta with truffles was delicious. The winner was the dessert - 3 nutella balls rolled in ground graham crackers and then fried (I think). Amazing. We will be back! The hostess/manager/server was absolutely the best and she had her hands full working solo."

  • "This is the quintessential 'neighborhood gem'. From respectable wine list to deliciously presented appetizers to lick-the-plate good entrees, I'll be back to this one for sure. Oh, and try the scallops-out of this world. "

  • "Blue Star Bistro was exactly what I was looking for. A restaurant for a girls' night out that was close to the expressway for a friend driving from the suburbs, free parking lot, outstanding food, quiet outdoor seating, great service and Nutella balls for dessert! All of the food was delicious. We ordered several small and medium plates to share and you must save room for the Nutella dessert."

  • "This is such a sweet little place with a sweet server, Tillie, who ws just delightful. Stuffed dates were AMAZING; I could have eaten a dozen. Goat cheese croquettes were AMAZING. The shrimp and the scallop small plates....AMAZING. Seriously, every single bite was delicious. And fried Nutella balls...you could just die. The bleu cheese spread with the wheet bread (bread plate) was scrumptious; the one and only not perfect thing was the little rolls on the bread plate, which were a little hard, but otherwise just a wonderful dining experience. And the basil cocktail was unusual and just lovely."

  • "Walking into this restaurant, you aren't sure if it's a spinach tapas place, an asian fusion spot or a country cookin' cozy hide away. It's blue and yellow colors with all different wooden chairs scream cozy living room, but the paintings of bulls and matadors are a nod to spanish flair and the overall aroma was asian tempura. BUT our waiter was a gem! He was so nice and ignored our girly gossip and politely blushed. We had a bottle of Chianti which was fabulous, and the brussels to start. Great app (really a side) for sharing. The 3 of us then split the Quinoa and Prosciutto flatbread, leaving plenty of room for the FRIED NUTELLA. HELLO yumminess! I will be back! Hopefully they can revamp their interior. I would be happy to help! :) "

  • "Love the food, service, ambience, wine selection. The sommelier was fantastic - Best Dessert in Chicago- fried Nutella balls with cappuccino mousse. Intimate, romantic - but around the bar wine sampling - great. In winter - there are fireplaces - Oh, and there was free parking! Various rabbit, elk, venison sausages were lovely, the trout and Brussels also excellent. Definitely go. "

  • "I had no problems at all using a LivingSocial deal. Service was excellent. Everyone was so nice and made us feel welcome. The food was delicious, but the portions were very small for the price. I left feeling somewhat hungry, despite having an entrée and shared appetizer and dessert. "

  • "Restaurant was fun and eclectic. Took customer and we actually had drinks and appetizers for dinner. Wasn't the plant there were so many good things on the list, we never got past the appetizers. We had great service, the environment was fun and you could talk without it being so loud. Enjoyed the time there. They were even willing (and did) run out and hail us a taxi."

  • "This restaurant is in the strangest location but I must say it will not disappoint. Obviously has a great wine selection but I was very surprised at the reasonable prices, lots of bottles under $50 from all over the world. The service was great, nice and accommodating and not pretentious. We ordered 3 things, butternut salad, burrata and pork belly mac n cheese; everything was absolutely delicious! Definitely going back"

  • "Love unusual combinations that Blue Star has on their menu. We loved everything we ordered, nothing wasted. We chose to order the small plates and share but the main dishes looked great too. Garlic Shrimp, Burrata, Mac&Cheese with pork belly, Dates wrapped in Bacon I'll be back! Our server was knowledgeable and thoughtful. Cute decor with fireplace."

  • "I took my brother out to Blue Star for his birthday. We shared the daily offering of breads, duck confit, pork belly Mac & Cheese, and fried Nutella. Everything was delicious and well cooked. The portions were a little mismatched, the duck confit being a large plate but a smaller size than expected. The Mac and Cheese however was larger than expected, so we left well satisfied. The fried Nutella was excellent as well, but could have used a bit more coulis to cut the richness. The bread and blue cheese garlic spread was fantastic. Our server was knowledgable and friendly, knowing just when to stop by the table to check on us. We did visit earlier on a Wednesday night so it was a fairly slower night, but the music was good."

  • "Blue Star has a lot of delicious food options and a small, neighborhood feel. Each time I have been there, the food has been delicious and I've left satisfied. In my opinion, the food is slightly overpriced for the quantity you receive. I would not eat there without some sort of discount."

  • "My wife and I met another couple there for dinner on Saturday. We were very pleased with the knowledgeable staff and given excellent recommendations on delicious red and white wines by the glass. This was followed up with a moderately sized menu where we tried a number of different dishes, some of which were small plates and others full dinner size. We chose to eat family style so we were able to try a good variety from the menu. Each item was well thought out, presented beautifully and most importantly - delicious. We especially enjoyed the scallop small plate, shrimp small plate, quinoa small plate and the trout entree. I highly recommend this place. We'll be coming back soon."

  • "We cannot say enough about the food, wine and service at Blue Star. We met up with a group of college roommates and spouses and were treated with care and fun the entire time. The food and wine recommendations and explanations were spot-on and the food itself - small plates, large plates and desserts - were all extraordinary - far exceeding even the amazing expectations we had. The service was absolutely flawless."

  • "Service was excellent; place fills up with reservations quickly. Easy access off of Division and tables are spaced far enough that you don't feel like you are cramped with your neighbors. Very astute server who helped us pace the meal appropriately given what we ordered and how we were progressing with our meal. The nutella balls were incredibly rich, but oh so good. Owner/manager was on point and definitely managing flow and guest expectations. Great visit and really recommend it for date night."

  • "The food and wine were all amazing---did an evening of small shared plates. Everything was so good we couldn't pick a favorite. Joe and the rest of the staff made the evening perfect for our anniversary. Antonio is so innovative! Try the bread pudding--one of the best I've ever had."

  • "You should probably ask how many "x" come on each plate though- the scallops (which are super awesome) come two to a plate, which was perfect for the two of us. We had a salad (so good!) and split four small plates- the scallops, bacon wrapped dates (so good here, really quite exquisite and we've had and made a lot of bacon wrapped dates), osso bucco (not as into this, too salty), and the MAC AND CHEESE (incredible! The beer flavors make it awesome, and the accompanying bratwurst was great). They were a little short staffed but very friendly and attentive. We're having our wedding reception there! This trip was just to try out the food."

  • "I enjoyed the restaurant quite a lot. The wine list was really nice. I also lived the small and large plate options. The burgers are fantastic. I also think the pork BBQ sliders are a winner. The cheese plate is also great. My one catch is that the mains came out before we were finished with the apps. I am likely being picky here but it is a pet peeve of mine. Service was super friendly and efficient otherwise. Oh and the dates and bacon were divine. :)"

  • "We came here to celebrate a 21st birthday. It was a Monday and we wanted to try something new with good food. It wasn't good food; it was GREAT food. The pork sliders were prepared with the BEST BBQ sauce I have ever had, the burger was on very light bread and was full of great taste. The fried nutella is also out of this world. I was surprised at how small the wine list was, being a wine bar, but they had great selections and during the week some are half price! We were one of only three tables there on a Monday night but PLEASE don't let that deter you. It is located slightly off the beaten path south of Lincoln & Wicker Parks, and west of downtown so it is definitely a destination spot, but amazing nonetheless."

  • "Just discovered this spot and had an incredibly enjoyable feast here. While the wine list is notable, we were disappointed that they were out of a few selections, but given the weather I know a lot of places have had difficulties getting deliveries. Also, our table was rickety (leaves were extended to accommodate us and they felt like they were going to fall through the whole evening) which took some getting used to. But overall the atmosphere was delightful, cozy and warm and the food was amazing. Will definitely dine here again."

  • "I have driven past this little hidden place off the neighborhood on Division a zillion times, but underestimated it's delightful charms. The first nice thing about this place is the free street parking right in front and it's quieter location away from the main Wicker Park drag. My husband and I are hunters for great wine bars with gourmet morsels, and Blue Star did not disappoint with a pique tasting experience. Not only was the food and wine heavenly, but each bite, each course, contained the most beautiful visual presentation. Topped off with a rustic, charming live classical guitarist, the overall experience was worth making it our memorable special occasion."

  • "I booked a table here knowing nothing about the restaurant, except that they serve wine... and that they do! My girlfriends and I all sampled the wine flights, and they were great! We ordered the soup, which was delicious, and then ordered a bunch of small plates to share. We had such a great time, we ended up drinking wine, eating, and chatting for almost 3 hours. The staff was very nice and accommodating. They were very helpful with food and wine recommendations. Thank you!"

  • "I have been here three times and the food has yet to disappoint and the wine is reasonably priced. I have had phenomenal service two times and meh service the other, but not enough to keep me from coming back. The blueberry/goat cheese croquettes and lamb bolognese are outstanding, the latter being one of my favorite dishes I have had anywhere."

  • "I went there with my parents, who prefer quieter restaurants these days. This place was PERFECT. The night we went the server mentioned things were quieter because of the holidays, but it was exactly what we wanted. The wine list made my dad happy, and I loved that they do flights where you can pick your own 3 wines! Low down on the food: Butternut squash salad - delicious. Great balance of flavors and not too sweet Tomato basil soup - this was the special and it was very flavorful. Not just a boring tomato soup. Bread with garlic spread - YUM. Burrata - INCREDIBLE. You kinda gotta do this. My dad got the Tuna and really enjoyed that too. All in all, this was the perfect spot for us. I would absolutely go back there again."
