A word from Blue Spoon
Perched at the top of Munjoy Hill in Portland’s East end, we are a chef-owned restaurant built on fresh market ingredients, friends, and family. Chef/owner David Iovino grew up in a family that valued coming together over food, and that tradition has carried forward as the foundation of Blue Spoon. We have fun in the kitchen, but we also couldn’t be more serious about what we do. That’s why we get our goods from the very best: Black Kettle Farm, Laughingstock Farm, Stone Cipher Farm, Fishbowl Farm, Freedom Farm, Valley View Farm eggs and meats, Wee Bit Farm beef and pork, Lankin’s Gorges Cheeses, Woolever Farm lamb, and Rick Tibbet’s mushrooms.Continued

  • "Disappointed that Saturday lunch menu was only brunch. Not everyone wants brunch on Saturday. In the past you could get a lovely glass of wine and lunch."

  • "Two of my girlfriends came to visit me in Portland while I'm assigned here for work. I decided to take them to Blue Spoon for brunch, and we had a great meal! The corner window booth was very cozy, and I really appreciated not feeling rushed out of the restaurant--we took our time, chatted, and enjoyed our time together. The eggs benedict over sweet potato hash was a favorite of the table, by far. The kale and sausage hash was also yummy, but could've used more kale. It'd be nice if they offered espresso beverages for brunch. Overall a fun and delicious morning! "

  • "Had no idea what we would find when we booked at Blue Spoon but we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and uniqueness of the food and the wonderful service. Definitely a place to return to."

  • "Very little on the menu for vegetarian/vegan, but the staff was happy to work with us to whip up one of the best dinners I've had in a while!"

  • "Went with three generations for a Mother's Day celebration. The menu had changed since last year and we were a little disappointed with the appetizer choices but decided to split the grilled cheese sandwich as an appetizer to go with the fabulous Bloody Mary's. The sandwich arrived cut into four servings and we all enjoyed it. The Eggs Benedict on the sweet potato hash browns was excellent, the eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise really complemented the sweet potatoes. The Kale/Chorizo Hash was a treat and my granddaughter enjoyed her hamburger and was a fan of the warm potato salad. We would appreciate a better choice of appetizers to accompany a Bloody Mary or Mimosa"

  • "Great food in a casual setting. I was looking for a casual restaurant to get a quick bite after my son's college graduation. I found Blue Spoon on OpenTable. After exploring the menu (I have many food sensitivities/allergies) I decided to give Blue Spoon a try. We were not disappointed. Three of us had the bistro burger and another had the egg/pork belly sandwich. Everything was excellent. Highly recommend."

  • "We had a great time at Blue Spoon. Outstanding cocktails and food. My new favorite restaurant, can't wait to go back!"

  • "Fun little restaurant. Appetizers were very good. We unfortunately ran out of time and had to take our entrees to go. Eating it after a show was hard to assess quality. "

  • "Menu was interesting but very limited. Food was good but with all the great restaurants in Portland I am sorry we chose this for our brief visit."

  • "Creative dishes. Great happy hour wine deal. The take reservations. "

  • "A rustic little place with casual energetic food - freshest salad, delicious burger and roasted poutine-like potatoes!"

  • "Went to Blue Spoon before a show. The seating was immediate although the restaurant was full, service as well. Great burgers and the appetizers were outstanding. Nice diverse menu. Small restaurant but well serviced. All in all a great experience "

  • "Eaten here several times before, so know that this visit was an anomaly. Everything was very good, except it took our main meals over hour to be served. We had an event to go to, so ran out without eating (meals in take out containers). They were very nice about it, but the wait for food was irritating (when those that came before us were served way before our main meal came out)."

  • "How lucky we are to be able to walk five minutes to one of Portland's best restaurants. Blue Spoon offers remarkably creative delicious food, all prepared by Steve in a tiny kitchen. The service staff is efficient and friendly without being in your face. Bri, Katie and Kirk never fail to make us feel at home and welcome. The small plates are creative:beets, Brussels sprouts, fingerlings, eggplant and more prepared with herbs snd spices that are delicate and oh so good. Main plates amaze; the ragu is beyond remarkable, the mussels are Delish, the gush, chicken and beef are fabulous. The wine list is small but well thought out, dessert -coconut flan is a must. Overall, Blue Spoon offers great good and service, while reasonably priced."

  • "Six of us thoroughly enjoyed Blue Spoon last week. We all had different appetizers and entrees and every dish was rated as excellent by each person, and we're discriminating eaters. Our waitress was fun, personable, fully attentive and offered good suggestions. Atmosphere was good, just not fancy, and food was imaginative and delicious. We'll definitely return."

  • "This was our third dining experience to the Blue Spoon. It was just as outstanding as the last. I particularly liked the warm cabbage salad and the beer selection. The service was excellent. Overall it was a great place to spend an evening with my wife."

  • "Fantastic Food! I loved every bit of it. The only thing I wish was different was that there was a little more light towards the end of the meal. If the lights were not so low or if there was additional candlelight it would literally have been perfect."

  • "Always a treat. The best BLT to be had anywhere and, oh, the sticky pudding !!!!! Took 3 colleagues from out of town for lunch and everyone was delighted."

  • "Met a friend there for brunch and we had a great time! Our meals were amazing, and her cocktail was incredible! We plan to go back on a day I don't have to hurry off to work!"

  • "I was bit suprised by the small size/few tables which hleped make it feel like we had stumbled upon a well kept secret. The total experience was wonderful. The intimate setting allowed for a quiet experience that promoted conversation and relaxation. The menu was filled with familiar ingredients put together to provide appetizers, salads and entrees that were unexpected. I wanted to taste everything on the menu. Our choices did not dissappoint and left us wanting to return often enough to chose everything on the menu. Well done."

  • "Really nice season appropriate menu. Wonderful sweet potato soup and root veggie starters. Perfectly prepared ribeye, the flounder tasted like they caught it today. This is an enjoy every bite place. Comfy room, attentive service, nice super casual vibe."

  • "When planning a brief weekend getaway to Portland, it was difficult to pick just a handful of restaurants to explore. The Blue Spoon made the list for many reasons: good reviews, a wonderful website (these things matter to me!), and the location provided an excuse to explore the East end/Promenade. Oh, and they have a 'Wine Hour'! We stopped in for a glass of wine and an appetizer. Very delicious. Far and away the best deal we found in Portland. Will definitely be going back to try a full dinner next time we're in Portland!"

  • "Four of us had a superb meal at The Blue Spoon - excellent from the cocktails through dessert and coffee. Everything was great, but we particularly liked the small plates we had as appetizers. Flavors were highly differentiated, so each bite was distinct. The salads were great, the entrees were perfect and desserts were outstanding. As always, the combinations of ingredients were unusual and wonderful. This is probably my 6th time having dinner at this restaurant and it's never failed me. I'd probably go more if it wasn't so small and hard to get a table. Lovely place!"

  • "The Blue Spoon was outstanding. I travel a great deal and always looking for great local places to eat. This was one of those places with great food, personal service and fun for our group. Everyone's meal was perfect and the ribeye with brussels sprouts was fantastic. We will be back."

  • "Small, intimate place that could probably get noisy, although it wasn't on a Wednesday noon. Nicely inventive food (the crusted trout sandwich was delicious). Very pleasant and attentive service."

  • "Blue Spoon is our very favorite small bistro in Portland. The food is consistently good, and they update the menu regularly. Service is friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Always satisfied!"

  • "This place totally rocks and for our 2nd visit it did not disappoint. Our group went with polenta fritters, fried egg toast (smoked mozzarella, finochio salami), spicy squid, and, moroccan lamb bbq hand pie as appetizers and starters. There were no clear winners and any or all of them should be on any diners list. Our entrees were grilled flank steak, winter risotto, and the braising pot (seasonal ragù, house made pasta). Again all outstanding dishes and raves around the table. Two at our table managed to split the lemon cake option and another double thumbs up. Service once again was professional, friendly and just right. Do not change a thing here!!"

  • "Will definitely be back for brunch again. Food was amazing and service was excellent. Quite possibly the best eggs benedict I've ever had."

  • "I'm not sure if this place aspires to be a bistro or a fine restaurant. The food is quite good, the service is good, the prices are fairly steep, but there is an open kitchen and loud music playing, for the benefit of the staff by all appearances."

  • "Very good unusual food and lots of appetizers to choose from. It was nice a cozy, not many tables and good place for conversation. The hostess was not terribly attentive and pointed to our table from behind the bar. A friend came in late and I had told the hostess (waiter) that he wouldn't be having dinner, but she never came over to even ask if he wanted a drink. Really good food though."

  • "The menu and food were very good. My only complaint is because of its size it is pretty noisy. Not a problem for most people but my wife has a very soft voice and cannot compete with a crowd which makes her not want to be there no matter how good the food quality. A great little neighborhood venue!"

  • "Not an easy spot to find but plenty of street parking once you get there. Cute small dining area very cozy. Attentive service with no frills. Wonderful presentation of all dishes that were each scrumptious!"

  • "Great fun in a small, lively space. Casual feel with superb local food."

  • "The menu was great. Just reading the menu gave me ideas for my own cooking at home. The coffee was very weak and tasteless and the tea, at nearly $4.00 a cup was definitely not worth it. It also came out tepid and barely steeped the tea. The food was very good and creative if it had come out hot, but again, it was not and the place was not that busy. Good ambience, server was adequate but did nothing to make our experience more pleasurable. A breakfast/brunch for two with a coffee and a tea came to nearly $40.00 which I thought was pricey. Would give it a second try."

  • "Both of our dinners were fair. One was too dry, the other had very little meat in the pasta dish. We will give it one more try to be fair."

  • "In selecting the Blue Spoon, we were looking for a restaurant that would satisfy us before going to the theater without overload. The Blue Spoon's eclectic menu of tapas, appetizers, and full course entrees was just thing. By ordering a selection of tapas and appetizers, we each had a satisfying meal that did not leave us bloated. The restaurant is small, even at mid-week, reservations are recommended if on a tight selection. Being small, it was a bit noisy, but never so loud that we could not converse easily. Nice place."

  • "I picked this restaurant on opened table because they had monkfish on the menu and I love monkfish. We were seated at a cozy corner table and to my dismay, monkfish was not on the menu. So I picked the flounder and it was fantastic! Now I have found another fish I like. The people were very nice and I was not uncomfortable being a large person in a very small restaurant, which is something I worried about beforehand due to people saying how small it was. I will return!"
