Diner Reviews
  • "Overall, I would say the food was a little disappointing. Some things were very good while others were not so much. The bar experience was very good. The chicken wings were excellent. We were seated right on time for our reservation. The waiters were very friendly and service was quick. The chicken was very good but the brisket and ribs were disappointing. The brisket did not have much flavor and no smoke taste at all. The rib sampler had two small baby back ribs, two small spare ribs and one beef rib. The pork ribs were dry and over done. The beef rib was fatty and bland. The pork and beans were underdone and did not give off a lot of BBQ taste. The fry bread was really ridiculously good. Desserts were good. The atmosphere is cool."

  • "We came for a birthday with our 2 kids aged 4 and 18 months. The staff were so kind and good with the kids including making special cookies for them (and letting them decorate them) and gave our 4 yr old some toys he loved. In the meantime Mum and Dad tucked in to their ribs which are great but huge! Overall a great family dining experience."

  • "This is the anchor of the neighborhood. You have work day people from around the area here as well as kids' baseball and softball teams. The staff is the high quality, extremely friendly Danny Meyer calibre people. In the summertime, they open up the front windowed walls, making it a fantastic way to enjoy a bourbon flight. Lastly, one of the best Old Fashioneds in the city."

  • "I love the area the restaurant is in so decided to try it and overall I wasn't impressed. I ordered the bbq chicken and found it to be dry and it didn't stand out. It was extremely tight with seating and I found myself literally stepping on other diners to make my way to the door."

  • "The food was very good and the service was excellent. Our overall experience was somewhat ruined however when the restaurant manager pretty much tried to kick us out. We had split a dessert and my son had a post-dinner cocktail and we did talk for a while. Just when we were about to leave anyhow the manager came over and asked if we wanted to get a dessert to go as they had people waiting. I didn't know there was a time limit on how long you could stay at a table. Most of my family have had experience in the restaurant business and we all had never seen this before. It was quite rude and put a damper on the night."

  • "Excellent BBQ for being what I call "fancy BBQ." Excellent service. Drinks were great. I love the huge selection of bourbon and American Whisky. Will visit again."

  • "Who says New Yorkers are rude? This place was so friendly!; and our table was waiting for us when we got there. The waiter was so funny! The kids got a real kick out of decorating their own pig cookie. The food was done perfectly, with lots of taste and not too much salt - even the cole slaw was tasty! The fried chicken was to die for, and I really loved how they noted my one child's nut allergy (and labeled nut free dishes on the menu) without blinking. Also liked the variety of barbeque sauces on the table, so you could put just as much as you'd like on your meat. Would totally recommend this to anyone, young and old alike!"

  • "Very good BBQ for the Northeast. Loud, but extremely kid friendly - Wiki sticks and pig cookies aplenty. Nice desserts, good beer selection."

  • "And gluten free friendly, although a few more gf options would be nice!"

  • "The food was really good and the service was even better. I would not recommend sitting in line with the door with the cold weather, had to sit with my coat on."

  • "Needed a spot for lunch near the offices in the World Financial Center. This was recommended by the client. Everyone had good looking lunches of the BBQ variety. I had the chicken with mash which was nice, succulent juciy chicken. And the Brussels sprouts were very good too. Recommended for lunch if in the area."

  • "Great bbq. They were out of the Apple Crisp and vanilla ice cream which was disappointing. Pork tenderloin was a bit undercooked but the ribs were phenomenal."

  • "In a currently restaurant limited marketplace, Blue Smoke offers a n interesting, albeit rather filling alternative. The ribs are superb as is the macaroni and cheese, but don't go there if calories count."

  • "I went with my boyfriend for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was perfect. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the spareribs. The blackened catfish was delicious as well and the apple crisp with bourbon ice cream was the perfect end to the meal. The food was delish and the service was excellent! We will definitely be returning!"

  • "Some of the food was pretty good. The chowder was way too salty. I think someone dumped soup into a salt shaker and put tons vinegar on the cole slaw. The ribs were good but not great - I did love the extra sauce. The desserts were the high point. Our waitress was amazing. She was thoughtful and generous with her time on a very busy day. So skip the appetizers and ask for something else as a side to the ribs and you might be ok. Not sure i would return for seconds!"

  • "This was our first time at Blue Smoke Downtown, and I must say we prefer the original location on all counts. We were a party of 8 and service was generally good. One main was missing, but they got it on the table fairly quickly. It's clean and attractive. The sides were delicious."

  • "I've had dinner at Blue Smoke several times but never came for lunch until recently. We had a great experience. The food was reasonably priced, generously portioned and, as always, really wonderful. They have my favorite ribs in NYC, and if you go you must try their chips and dip -- THE BEST!"

  • "The menus for the restaurant week are worst to me, considering the price and the taste."

  • "This was a great spot for a quick "pulled pork sandwich and a beer" lunch. However, I spied the spare ribs at the next table and the diner there looked very happy. I am already tempted to come back. The lunch was good. Service was polite and fast. The restaurant was crowded but they sat us quickly and we were in and out in an hour. The sandwiches were tasty! The beer was cold! The fries were crisp! NEXT TIME WE'LL TAKE OUR TIME AND CHECK OUT THOSE RIBS!"

  • "We were staying at The Conrad Hotel right next to Blue Smoke. We needed something close quick and good. They did not disappoint!! We had an 11:30 reservation. Had our food before 12:00. Place was packed! Families and business people alike. Big portions. Brought a lot home. Brussel sprouts were out of this world. Between 3 of us we had all the options of BBQ. Didn't get disappointed!!! Service was impeccable!"

  • "Blue Smoke has very good meaty ribs, well trimmed, at a reasonable price. Although only one fish dish on the menu, it was also well prepared. The noise level tends toward younger people who are accustomed to yelling rather than having a conversation. Still, however, a good deal."

  • "My brother was in town, so my fiance and I met up with him while he had an evening. As usual, the bbq was amazing, the service was very good and we were able to enjoy ourselves during the relaxing evening. Blue Smoke is always my goto spot for people from out of town and will continue to be."

  • "Everything we had was good. Ribs were tender, hush puppies were crisp and cornbread was delicious. It wasn't knock your socks off earth shattering BBQ but definitely worth having."

  • "I went with my husband and parents and overall we enjoyed our meal. I've been here before for a business lunch, and I was really surprised to see so many young children on a Saturday night. It was a little noisy. We loved the chips with blue cheese the fried chicken and rhapsody in que. the Kansas City ribs were really spicy for my dad's taste. I think a little better description would be nice for those who are unfamiliar with the difference between rib styles."

  • "We were disappointed that our entrees were just okay. We went specifically to have ribs and they were nothing special at all. Our party of four all agreed that we would probably not go back there again. The appetizers were very tasty but that would not be enough of a pull for a return visit."
