A word from Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen
Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen is a West Village neighborhood favorite and destination restaurant. Restaurateurs Bruce and Eric Bromberg discovered in 1995 a 140 year-old wood burning brick oven and lovingly restored it and built Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen around it. We now proudly operate the only existing wood fired brick bread oven in New York City using methods learned from our time at Poilane Bakery in France, including challah, matzoh, and classic french baguettes. Our menu is eclectic and varied. Menu highlights include our award-winning Fried Chicken, Grilled Lamb Chops, Beef Marrow, locally caught fish and whole roasted pasture-to-table animals prepared in our brick oven, as well as a broad offering of lighter fare. At the heart of each Blue Ribbon Bakery experience is the wood-burning oven that sends the smell of freshly baked bread throughout the dining room.   • "Our party of 6 ended up ordering the burgers - 3 chicken, 2 beef. One holdout had the trout special. This may be the best burger I've ever had. We didn't go there expecting to order burgers but we were all pleased we did. And the holdout who ate the trout was also a happy camper. We started out with the grilled avocado appetizer special and that too was outstanding. Our waiter was excellent. He never hovered but always seemed to know what our needs were. He picked that were were celebrating a birthday and came over with a candle in our bread pudding, which was also excellent. But what would you expect when it's made of bread from the bakery? I'd definitely go back again. Great find."

  • "wanted to share this place with my boyfriend so took him on Sunday for dinner (it has always been a favorite but we never went there together)- so much more quiet than a super loud saturday night (sometimes it is so loud in there!)… world cup USA game playing at the bar. Staff was amazing as always (attentive, friendly, knowledgable) and the food was out of this world! Fresh pot of coffee brewed for us. That always goes a long way with me. All good!"

My one criticism of the restaurant was that the host and the bartender were extremely rude. Thankfully, the waiter and waitress and of course the food helped to redeem the restaurant for me. "

It's not the best restaurant in NYC but they consistently churn out great food and service whenever I go there at reasonable price points.   • "My family and I booked a table for 6 to celebrate a wedding with the in-laws. We are a tall bunch and were given a private room that was perfect for a small group and provided us with sufficient room to stretch out and enjoy ourselves. The host and waiter were attentive and helpful from the moment we stepped into the door! Perhaps the most important part - the food - was excellent. We got the shrimp and chorizo app - YUMM. With the fresh baked bread it was heavenly. We also got the bone marrow - fantastic. Even one of the mom's who was skeptical of marrow enjoyed the marrow and onion marmalade on the bread which had bacon baked into it! As for the entrees - we had red trout, fried chicken, burgers, a catfish special and lamb chops!"

  • "This restaurant is a gem. It has the best fried chicken outside of the south! The food is prepared wonderfully and the service staff is fun and warm. I made a mistake with confirming my reservation but even though it was a Saturday night they still got us in and were very gracious. I really appreciated that since it was my mistake! The sides are delicious and we all shared tastes of each others plates - they were all excellent. I highly recommend this place for the food and all the staff."

  • "We were exhausted after the NY auto show and Blue Ribbon was a haven of delicious food and libations. We shared the steamed clams which were great, the buttery-white wine sauce was soaked up in no time. We also shared the burger and the fried chicken, which was more than enough food. I loved the batter on the fried chicken, it was so light and slightly spicy. Dipping the chicken into honey added a sweet quality but you could control it if you wanted to. The burger was cooked slightly overdone but that's okay. The table bread and the bun on the burger were clearly made in house and so fresh! Definitely a do-over."

I had the NY Strip, cooked perfectly and served with no-frills fries. Caesar salad to start was also yummy. Service is spotty but usually attentive. The upstairs dining area lacks atmosphere, downstairs is a bit more lively and great for groups. I would recommend if you are looking for good food without the hassle."

There is a working bakery in the basement where they bake the bread, so the smells and ambience make it very comforting when you are downstairs. The people who work there, manage and serve you add to the ambience. They are friendly and professional, and clearly want you to enjoy your meal and experience at this wonderful gem off the beaten path. Find it and experience it."
