A word from Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen
Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen is a West Village neighborhood favorite and destination restaurant. Restaurateurs Bruce and Eric Bromberg discovered in 1995 a 140 year-old wood burning brick oven and lovingly restored it and built Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen around it. We now proudly operate the only
existing wood fired brick bread oven in New York City using methods learned from our time at Poilane Bakery in France, including challah, matzoh, and classic french baguettes. Our menu is eclectic and varied. Menu highlights include our award-winning Fried Chicken, Grilled Lamb Chops, Beef Marrow, locally caught fish and whole roasted pasture-to-table animals prepared in our brick oven, as well as a broad offering of lighter fare. At the heart of each Blue Ribbon Bakery experience is the wood-burning oven that sends the smell of freshly baked bread throughout the dining room. Don’t leave without walking downstairs to see the bakers in action.

We all had their famous fried
chicken, which was surprisingly light and delicious. Veggie side dishes excellent as well. They are very easy going about substitutions."

Great menu that delivers every
time. Less crowded than it used to be, which I view as a positive. Get the bread pudding for dessert."
Dined on 8/19/2014
Helpful, friendly staff, but this
place feels like a bar with expensive - and only decent - food."
Dined on 8/15/2014
The staff (and chef!) were all
lovely and charming. They were apologetic about a very noisy group next to us. We had a tour in the bakery and chatted with the chef which was a highlight for me."
Dined on 8/15/2014
The staff complied to my special
request and I thank them for paying attention."
Dined on 8/5/2014
Food was great, they even split
our food for us into separate plates. The service was outstanding and the ambience intimate without being to stuffy. Really glad I went and would go back."
Dined on 7/30/2014
the lunch menu is expensive
relative to other West Village destinations. Dinner is preferred, especially the fried chicken"
Dined on 7/25/2014
perfection. great food and
service. love the fried chicken and there was a delicious classic gazpacho special."
Dined on 7/18/2014
Fried Chicken & beef marrow are
delish. I'll try other dish next time because they look very good"
Dined on 7/17/2014
The food and service at this tiny
neighborhood gem were terrific! Do not miss the fried chicken dinner - a perfect balance of crispy outside and moist/juicy and tender inside! The grilled avocado appetizer special was also delicious. Another winner from the folks behind the Blue Ribbon empire."

STEAK TARTARE WAS SOOO GOOD! AND
THE BREAD IS OUT OF THIS WORLD ! SERVICE WAS VERY NICE!!!"
Dined on 7/13/2014
Blue Ribbon Cafe is a MUST every
time we are in New York. This year we brought our whole family and now we have made food snobs out of our 21 year old daughter and our two teenage sons. The wait staff is knowledgeable, freindly and first rate. The food is amazing...bone marrow with their amazing bacon bread toast with crispy parsley, steak tartare, grilled avacado with creme fresh. Our 13 year old loved his steak frits."
Dined on 7/12/2014
This is a mix of old and new
Village food and atmosphere. We had a light summer dinner, including a watermelon salad and grilled sardines. Very nice!"
Dined on 7/12/2014
This restaurant has very friendly
staff and who couldn't love a place that offers you free loaves of its bread as you're leaving? I'm sure the latter offering is for late-night diners only, but the BRBK is worth a visit just for its welcoming, comfortable vibe. Our table was wild about the fried chicken and the delectable dessert offerings too."
Dined on 6/29/2014
This is one of my all-time NYC
favorites. Service is top notch, and the food is always always excellent. Cocktails are all around super. I don't normally eat steak tartar, but I could eat a pound of BRB's. The bone marrow is among the best in the city, rivalled only by Blue Ribbon Brasserie's."

Our party of 6 ended up ordering
the burgers - 3 chicken, 2 beef. One holdout had the trout special. This may be the best burger I've ever had. We didn't go there expecting to order burgers but we were all pleased we did. And the holdout who ate the trout was also a happy camper. We started out with the grilled avocado appetizer special and that too was outstanding. Our waiter was excellent. He never hovered but always seemed to know what our needs were. He picked that were were celebrating a birthday and came over with a candle in our bread pudding, which was also excellent. But what would you expect when it's made of bread from the bakery? I'd definitely go back again. Great find."

wanted to share this place with my
boyfriend so took him on Sunday for dinner (it has always been a favorite but we never went there together)- so much more quiet than a super loud saturday night (sometimes it is so loud in there!)… world cup USA game playing at the bar. Staff was amazing as always (attentive, friendly, knowledgable) and the food was out of this world! Fresh pot of coffee brewed for us. That always goes a long way with me. All good!"
Dined on 6/22/2014
Congested and noisy space but
interesting food. Grilled avocado waslisted as side but served as appetizer- amazing flavors. I would return just for that. Happy to see one of my fav wines on extensive wine list. Great lamb chops. I shared everything with my friend and the kitchen split it for us which was ver accommodating!"
Dined on 6/21/2014
Food is outstanding!!!! The
service was on the slow side, and they were out of certain dishes. That being said, they could not have been more gracious, and even gave us desserts on the house because of the inconvenience. I would go back there in a heartbeat!!!!"
Dined on 6/17/2014
great experience, everything we
ate was amazing and service was excellent. can't wait to go back!"
Dined on 6/1/2014
Very good food and excellent
service. The staff is very accommodating and you can have a conversation without screaming at the top of your lungs, which is very rare in Manhattan these days. Go, relax and enjoy!"

The food was amazing at Blue
Ribbon! This was my first Blue Ribbon experience so it was super exciting to finally try the Blue Ribbon family of restaurants. My one criticism of the restaurant was that the host and the bartender were extremely rude. I did not feel welcomed once I got into the restaurant and I thought my experience was going to be the same. Thankfully, the waiter and waitress and of course the food helped to redeem the restaurant for me. "
Dined on 5/30/2014
I had an early dinner that was
excellent. Fresh halibut cooked to perfection. Excellent service."
Dined on 5/30/2014
Someone balked at me recently when
I told them Blue Ribbon Bakery is my favorite restaurant. It's not the best restaurant in NYC but they consistently churn out great food and service whenever I go there at reasonable price points. You can't compare this to a place like Eleven Madison or Per Se. So, I'm a happy camper eating there."

My family and I booked a table for
6 to celebrate a wedding with the in-laws. We are a tall bunch and were given a private room that was perfect for a small group and provided us with sufficient room to stretch out and enjoy ourselves. The host and waiter were attentive and helpful from the moment we stepped into the door! Perhaps the most important part - the food - was excellent. We got the shrimp and chorizo app - YUMM. With the fresh baked bread it was heavenly. We also got the bone marrow - fantastic. Even one of the mom's who was skeptical of marrow enjoyed the marrow and onion marmalade on the bread which had bacon baked into it! As for the entrees - we had red trout, fried chicken, burgers, a catfish special and lamb chops!"

Surprised my boyfriend with a trip
to Brooklyn for the Brooklyn Nets playoff game and had dinner at Blue Ribbon! He loved every bit of it, and I did as well. They are a bit overpriced but the food and service was wonderful. "
Dined on 4/27/2014
This restaurant is a gem. It has
the best fried chicken outside of the south! The food is prepared wonderfully and the service staff is fun and warm. I made a mistake with confirming my reservation but even though it was a Saturday night they still got us in and were very gracious. I really appreciated that since it was my mistake! The sides are delicious and we all shared tastes of each others plates - they were all excellent. I highly recommend this place for the food and all the staff."
Dined on 4/26/2014
Seating host was unattentive, took
5 minutes to be seated while he was doing something on the computer. Bread not served unless requested and wasn't warm. Lamb was greasy and sauce was too sweet for the lamb. Food was just ok. I did like the ambience , rustic and homey especially the bakery downstairs. "
Dined on 4/22/2014
A chef friend recommended we come
here. It was a great call. Loved it. "
Dined on 4/20/2014
We were exhausted after the NY
auto show and Blue Ribbon was a haven of delicious food and libations. We shared the steamed clams which were great, the buttery-white wine sauce was soaked up in no time. We also shared the burger and the fried chicken, which was more than enough food. I loved the batter on the fried chicken, it was so light and slightly spicy. Dipping the chicken into honey added a sweet quality but you could control it if you wanted to. The burger was cooked slightly overdone but that's okay. The table bread and the bun on the burger were clearly made in house and so fresh! Definitely a do-over."
Dined on 4/19/2014
Place is way overpriced. Entrees
in the high 30s and 40s like here can be found in many gourmet restaurants. Also, bread was disappointing for a bakery. Nice place for brunch and great bread pudding. "
Dined on 4/16/2014
Blue Ribbon is always great for a
solid, stick to your ribs meal - the food is always tasty. It's a little expensive but I don't mind paying if I know it will be good. I had the NY Strip, cooked perfectly and served with no-frills fries. Caesar salad to start was also yummy. Service is spotty but usually attentive. The upstairs dining area lacks atmosphere, downstairs is a bit more lively and great for groups. I would recommend if you are looking for good food without the hassle."
Dined on 4/8/2014
Came here for brunch on my
birthday, and couldn't have been happier with the food, service, and the fact that they could accommodate 12 people at one table during the Sunday brunch rush (making a reservation about a week beforehand obviously helped). The waiter was attentive and the ambiance cozy and intimate -- my party was seated downstairs where the brick walls and candles create quite a nice spot for dining."
Dined on 3/30/2014
Bone marrow dish is absolutely
amazing...I'm still thinking about it days later. I would also recommend the filet mignon - an excellent piece of beef perfectly prepared to order. The honey-glazed duck is also tasty! Recommend requesting a table in the downstairs area near the bread-making hearth - the smells of freshly baked bread add to the experience!"
Dined on 3/28/2014
This restaurant is great for
chilling out with a friend, catching up, and enjoying food that's deliciously homey and satisfying. Everything about the restaurant is welcoming - the staff, the low-key milieu and the really excellent food. Don't miss the amazing home-baked breads!"
Dined on 3/25/2014
Great vibe. Good little
neighborhood spot. We were specifically looking for someone for tasty steaks late on friday night and were not disappointed. the steaks were delicious and the fries were really amazing. had a really fun busy vibe too"
Dined on 3/14/2014
It's simple, pleasant and charming
with delicious comfort food and REALLY good bread and chocolate chip bread pudding for dessert. I had onion soup which was huge and excellent and others had trout, salmon and fried chicken, all very good. Very nice servers too. I suppose it could get noisy when it's full, but we went early. Loved it."
Dined on 3/12/2014
not horrible and not great. I
prefer their food for Brooklyn Bowl."
Dined on 3/4/2014
Overall the experience was ok. The
food is overpriced for what one gets: basic American fare. A mesclun salad with a bland vinegraitte set us back $10. The staff was gracious, knowledgable and attentive. Nice neighborhood atmosphere."
Dined on 2/28/2014
One of the things I love about
Blue Ribbon is how warm and accomodating the environment is. The food is wonderful, and the bread is amazing. There is a working bakery in the basement where they bake the bread, so the smells and ambience make it very comforting when you are downstairs. The people who work there, manage and serve you add to the ambience. They are friendly and professional, and clearly want you to enjoy your meal and experience at this wonderful gem off the beaten path. Find it and experience it."
