A word from Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen
Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen is a West Village neighborhood favorite and destination restaurant. Restaurateurs Bruce and Eric Bromberg discovered in 1995 a 140 year-old wood burning brick oven and lovingly restored it and built Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen around it. We now proudly operate the only existing wood fired brick bread oven in New York City using methods learned from our time at Poilane Bakery in France, including challah, matzoh, and classic french baguettes. Our menu is eclectic and varied. Menu highlights include our award-winning Fried Chicken, Grilled Lamb Chops, Beef Marrow, locally caught fish and whole roasted pasture-to-table animals prepared in our brick oven, as well as a broad offering of lighter fare. At the heart of each Blue Ribbon Bakery experience is the wood-burning oven that sends the smell of freshly baked bread throughout the dining room. Don’t leave without walking downstairs to see the bakers in action.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Place is way overpriced. Entrees in the high 30s and 40s like here can be found in many gourmet restaurants. Also, bread was disappointing for a bakery. Nice place for brunch and great bread pudding. "

  • "Blue Ribbon is always great for a solid, stick to your ribs meal - the food is always tasty. It's a little expensive but I don't mind paying if I know it will be good. I had the NY Strip, cooked perfectly and served with no-frills fries. Caesar salad to start was also yummy. Service is spotty but usually attentive. The upstairs dining area lacks atmosphere, downstairs is a bit more lively and great for groups. I would recommend if you are looking for good food without the hassle."

  • "Came here for brunch on my birthday, and couldn't have been happier with the food, service, and the fact that they could accommodate 12 people at one table during the Sunday brunch rush (making a reservation about a week beforehand obviously helped). The waiter was attentive and the ambiance cozy and intimate -- my party was seated downstairs where the brick walls and candles create quite a nice spot for dining."

  • "Bone marrow dish is absolutely amazing...I'm still thinking about it days later. I would also recommend the filet mignon - an excellent piece of beef perfectly prepared to order. The honey-glazed duck is also tasty! Recommend requesting a table in the downstairs area near the bread-making hearth - the smells of freshly baked bread add to the experience!"

  • "This restaurant is great for chilling out with a friend, catching up, and enjoying food that's deliciously homey and satisfying. Everything about the restaurant is welcoming - the staff, the low-key milieu and the really excellent food. Don't miss the amazing home-baked breads!"

  • "It's simple, pleasant and charming with delicious comfort food and REALLY good bread and chocolate chip bread pudding for dessert. I had onion soup which was huge and excellent and others had trout, salmon and fried chicken, all very good. Very nice servers too. I suppose it could get noisy when it's full, but we went early. Loved it."

  • "Great vibe. Good little neighborhood spot. We were specifically looking for someone for tasty steaks late on friday night and were not disappointed. the steaks were delicious and the fries were really amazing. had a really fun busy vibe too"

  • "not horrible and not great. I prefer their food for Brooklyn Bowl."

  • "Overall the experience was ok. The food is overpriced for what one gets: basic American fare. A mesclun salad with a bland vinegraitte set us back $10. The staff was gracious, knowledgable and attentive. Nice neighborhood atmosphere."

  • "My third time to this little gem and still amazing. Quaint and charming with an easy menu and outstanding staff. The sheer number of locals that are always here is testament to the quality one can expect to receive. I absolutely love this restaurant. One of the top 5 I've been to in the world from a total perspective standpoint."

  • "One of the things I love about Blue Ribbon is how warm and accomodating the environment is. The food is wonderful, and the bread is amazing. There is a working bakery in the basement where they bake the bread, so the smells and ambience make it very comforting when you are downstairs. The people who work there, manage and serve you add to the ambience. They are friendly and professional, and clearly want you to enjoy your meal and experience at this wonderful gem off the beaten path. Find it and experience it."

  • "have eaten here a hundred times. took my sister for her birthday last thursday night and had a HORRIBLE experience. was sat downstairs next to a huge group. the lights were so bright, service was awful and barely present. food came out incorrect. a medium rare steak came out well done (this is the 2x this has happened to me there). i love the restaurant and go there because it is cozy and sweet and i am a food person, however, i was embarrassed taking something there having had such a poor experience."

  • "We were there Sat for my mother's 60th birthday. the food, wine and dessert were all amazing. the server was attentive & knowledgeable. we had the downstairs private "room" for our table of 8 and it couldn't have been more perfect. i highly recommend the steak with fries, the fried chicken and their bread pudding for dessert. our next dinner at BRBK cannot come soon enough!"

  • "Always fantastic to come here. Food is always top notch - fresh and delicious. I simply cannot fault the service - knowledgable staff, friendly and happy to help."

  • "This restaurant is a dining treasure. It has retained it's Village charm and warmth. The food is superior and the service is wonderful - it almost seems to be personal . A visit to the bakery on the lower level is part of the experience . The smell of fresh baking bread(s) will remain with you as a souvenir and If you are lucky, you will take home a loaf as a Blue Ribbon gift. Go soon and bring a friend."

  • "We had a fantastic Valentine's Day. The Fried Chicken did not disappoint and lamb chops were perfect. The nice surprise was the grilled avocado appetizer, delish!. I wish the tables were a bit more private, but its NYC, a table of 2 is like a table for 6. All worth it."

  • "Morgan, the maître d and all his staff do an impeccable job. Reservations are promptly seated and he has a knack of remembering names! Service is efficient and the food is always hot and delicious! The specials are always enticing and I have never eaten anything that was not of the highest quality. An extra and unique treat are loaves of freshly baked bread and you are free to take one!"

  • "My girlfriend and I go here every time we're looking to celebrate. The food is amazing, and the service is great, albeit sometimes when they are slow the service can get a bit aggressive. I chalk it up to bored restlessness. Overall I love this place and will continue to come back."

  • "I take clients out to lunch at least 3 times a week and Blue Ribbon Bakery is on this rotation. I will no longer be doing that after how rude our waitress treated us. She was snippy and annoyed that she had to work. I wanted to take half of my sandwich home so it was wrapped in plastic and she proceeded to give it to my exactly like that...no bag to take it home in. My Opentable reservation wasn't noted so I had to do extra work to receive my points."

  • "Made a last minute reservation and arrived to a nice table and very friendly service on a Saturday night. The man that seated us even pronounced my name correctly, which I always appreciate. The drinks came quickly and were great. We had hummus to start. I had the fried chicken main and my friend had their burger. The portions are pretty sizable so you may not have room for dessert. We found out there's a kid size burger, if you're into smaller portions. The fried chicken main included four pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes and collard greens. Go hungry, leave satisfied."

  • "The food is, as it always is, excellent. The presentation of the food is terrific. The service is friendly and gracious. We went (this time) on a night when the restaurant was quite busy, but one never feels rushed."

  • "Wow do I love this place! The servers are fantastic. The restaurant is typically crowded like all good W Village restaurants, but the staff never makes you feel rushed. They are always patient and helpful. I have now tried most things on the menu, but my 2 favorites are the filet and the salmon. If you don't eat steak much, you will want Blue Ribbon to be your exception. Wow, it is so good you want to rub it on your face. It is perfectly cooked on placed on a bed of amazing creamy grits. Don't miss the Brussel sprouts either. They rock! Go to Blue Ribbon! You will never be disappointed!"

  • "Went to Blue Ribbonin a major snow storm and happy that I did. The restaurant is small and cozy. I was told that they would only hold my table for 15 minutes if we were late and I was the first to arrive. The host made me wait by the door and didn't offer to take my coat, however, I was seated as soon as I asked. The food was terrific. We started by sharing an artichoke salad with some pate. We had the tuna crostini special on crunchy baguettes and fought over the last bites. The fried chicken was as great as promised --but you have to love fried, crispy food. We needed a sweet end and thought we'd just have a taste of something, but we gobbled up the chocolate chip bread pudding -- not a smidge left!"

  • "It is small, so that loud children (that's redundant) rule the airwaves. The management does play music, but it is kept low, allowing for conversation. Their mainstay is fish, with a burger, and a fried chicken (?!), as default dishes. BR's apps, Greek salad and huge sardines, were very good: no brown lettuce! Service is always good in this tight place. Waiters are friendly but not chatty. $30 or so for the fish entree, but you could spend the same, in the West Village, and get much less for your money. I've been there 4 or 5 times in the last year, and always look forward to going back."

  • "food was very good but service was horrible.after we were seated it took awhile for someone to take our drink order. then it took about 15 minutes for a drinks to arrive......pretty unacceptable/"

  • "The food and its presentation is outstanding. The asparagus/potato soup is out of this world. Everything that was ordered was some of the best we'd ever tasted The service is ALMOST up to the quality of the food (3 of the 4 people at the table were served their appetizers first and the 4th person received his meal about 10 minutes later, while the others waited to eat their hot soup. So service should be better timed. ) But other than that, the service was gracious. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to others."

  • "I've eaten here a number of times and the food is always great and usually the service is good. But this time our server was slow in taking our drink order, taking our food order and getting us our check. Made for a less than enjoyable evening."

  • "I always enjoy going back to Blue Ribbon Bakery: solid food, good friendly service, and a nice ambience make it an ideal spot for a catching up with a friend or as a date spot."

  • "Really enjoyed the food (try the asparagus potatoe soup!) and atmosphere. Good service; timely, but also laid back, allowing us to enjoy ourselves. Thanks!"

  • "Great restaurant. I will definitely return. My only complaint is that the kitchen prepared the wrong entree for my wife. Rather than expedite the correct entree, her order was placed at the back of the line in the kitchen and took about 20 minutes to come out. They did comp that entree, but it is never enjoyable for one person to have to eat alone after everyone else at our table had finished their meal. This could have been easily rectified by simply bringing the next fried chicken entree (its their most popular dish) that came out of the kitchen to our table. Other than this issue, the service was great and the food was fantastic."

  • "A wonderful warm dining experience. The staff was friendly, helpful and made the dinner feel inviting. The food was a terrific blend of fresh ingredient and creative mixed flavors. The waiter recommended an excellent wine. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed the evening."

  • "Save room for the chocolate bread pudding! I had the duck confit special - very good. The fried chicken never disappoints. Though it was a tight fit, they graciously accommodated one of our party on crutches."
