A word from Blue Point Restaurant - Wayzata
The Blue Point, established in 1987, is an upscale fresh seafood restaurant located in quaint and beautiful Wayzata across the street from Lake Minnetonka, the metro area's largest lake. We are dedicated to providing the freshest seafood brought in daily from the coasts, it is creatively prepared and coupled with friendly, knowledgeable service and a colorful extensive selection of fine wines. We have had a Wine Spectator award-winning wine list for the past ten years and continue to be committed to upholding this caliber of selection as well as our culinary excellence. We offer a range of comfortable dining atmospheres, ranging from the white table-clothed Wine Room, Key West and Main dining rooms, to the more casual Oyster Bar with tables draped in green-checkered cloths. Our menu offers a variety of unique, delectable entrees and side dishes, featuring an array of seafood, salads, homemade soups and non-seafood options, as well as our famous Key Lime Pie.Continued

  • "Had 8 people total.... Everything was wonderful! Loved every bite of food! Severs were superb and were very personable! We are going back for sure"

  • "In years past, Blue Point has been a "go-to" restaurant for special occasions. This evening was different. The calamari appetizer was a bit greasy. The meal itself took over an hour to arrive and it wasn't a very busy night. To the waitress' credit, she realized that our meal had been "misplaced" and had the manager deliver the food with an apology even though we hadn't yet complained. The Jumbo Shrimp was excellent; however the salmon was very undercooked and ultimately could only be eaten around the edges. I appreciate the waitress' efforts to try to make things right. Hopefully I'll be able to get my wife to go back there in the future."

  • "We celebrated a birthday with Lobster and Mussels. The food was carefully prepared and served. Reminds me of eating at wonderful neighborhood restaurants in Boston. Excellent meal, hats off to the chef."

  • "Started off with friendly and helpful waitress. Awesome bottle of wine (many wine choices), Huge Shrimp apps- then a wonderful seafood dinner- at our table- Monkfish; duck w scallops & grilled shrimp- we each tasted each other- and we all agreed- great food & perfectly prepared. Waitress was great- giving information and checking in with us. All in all I would recommend and go back."

  • "We moved to Eden Prairie in 2009. We have had excellent basic food (steaks) but this was the most delicious special food we've had here in the Twin Cities. Nice service, too."

  • "As usual, the food was excellent. They fit our large group of 9 in with no issues, and added support to the wait staff to ensure we were appropriately managed. Oysters were great, fish was great, however, the Calamari could use some improvement. Not up to par with most of the other places in the metro, in my opinion."

  • "Looking for culinary excellence after a theater matinee? Dine early and quietly at the Blue Point Wayzata. The oysters were delicate, tender and fresh and our main courses (salmon, seafood gumbo, fresh seafood platter) outstanding, ranking as one of our best dining experiences this year. Service was prompt, yet unhurried, a true skill. Thank you to the chef and the whole staff."

  • "I assume this is busiest for business lunches. We went on a Saturday evening, expecting a lively crowd. Strangely quiet and empty. Food good, great service (only group in the bar), but would like more ambiance for a Saturday evening."

  • "This is a great place for a meal. My wife and I celebrated her birthday and the service, food and location are really wonderful. There are 4 different dining areas that have different ambiance making this a very flexible place to go and have different experiences."

  • "My wife and I made a last minute decision to go out for dinner on Saturday evening and wanted to stay local. We thought of the Blue Point, which we have been to many times for their excellent happy hour, but it had been years since we had dinner there. We were able to get reservations and were not disappointed. We started with a dozen blue point oysters on the half-shell - hard to beat at $2 each. I had a cup of the gumbo which was very good. Our entrees of spicy bacon wrapped scallops and shrimp risotto and scallops with duck confit were both excellent, although the scallops and shrimp dish were not very spicy. We'll definitely be back more often for dinner."

  • "Food was very good as usual....spicy scallops were a little too hot...and we spent a lot of time in Texas eating hot stuff. They were too hot to be enjoyable."

  • "I have been gong to the Blue Point Wayzata for over 25 years and I have been disappointed. No matter what the bill has been, I have always been satisfied with the value for money. Great Food, Great location, reminds me of New England!"

  • "I had one of the scallops meals .The waitress never told us that the meal was very spicy(hot) entree when ordered .When I told the waitress that the meal was very spicy when I received it,the waitress just said that she had never had it .The waitress said she was sorry and that was all ! ,since it was valentines day we didn't have the time to wait for another entree so I didn't ask if I could have a different entree. The waitress never offered ANY suggestions at ALL about anything.ATE a meal I hated and got BILLED for it too."

  • "We've been regular customers for about 30 years. Had 6:30 p.m. birthday reservation, we ordered 2 beef tenderloins and 2 grouper dinners (one of which we wanted blackened - which we've always been accommodated in the past. Server came back they were out of tenderloins and all thee Grouper was prepared in the paper wrap with miso & bok choy (very bland) so he could not have it the way he wanted. The server was very nice but forgot the special birthday dessert for my husband, but we were ready to leave anyway. The manager tried to compensate us for the dissatisfaction with one keylime pie dessert. If this Chef remains, our family will probably not be returning. Very dissappointing and the menu should not have been changed."

  • "Blue Point came highly recommended by friends and it did not disappoint. My wife and I rarely go out to $$$$/$$$$$ restaurants, so when we do we want come away feeling satisfied. The calamari was above average, but everything else was amazing. My wife, the seafood person, loved the bacon wrapped scallops with shrimp and grits. Even though I rarely like salmon, I got it anyway. I didn't even know you could have it prepared to your liking, as I went with medium well. The best salmon I have ever had. And it says something when your side, carmelized brussel sprouts, match the flavor of your entree. The atmosphere was a little louder than expected and the dining room was a little cramped, but did significantly detract from our experience."

  • "We were looking forward to celebrating a special birthday @ the Blue Point w/family visiting from California. We had a 8:00 reservation. We arrived shortly before 8:00 and were told our table wasn't ready, but we could wait in the bar. Not a big deal. We figured we could order some wine, then take it with us to our table. We waited. And waited. Forty five minutes later, we were finally told our table was ready. After we ordered, there was a ridiculously long wait. Our plates arrived at the busing station, where they sat until the food was lukewarm. Dinner finally served at 9:30. Wait staff was friendly enough, but no excuses/apologies for the delays. Food was "OK." We're scratching the Blue Point off our list. We won't return."

  • "This lovely older spot provides a wide variety of choices, decent portions at fair prices for the venue. We sat in the righthand dining room adjacent to a lovely fireplace (great) but near a very noisy bar scene. This is definitely not your uptown crowd! The mussels were good, not exceptional. The squid appetizer is generous enough to feed three (which is why I felt compelled to finish it myself!). The seafood on linguine contained a nice array of shrimp, mussels, fish and clams. The scallop appetizer had three generous sized portions."

  • "We dined at Blue Point for our 22nd Wedding Anniversary. My husband has a predictable answer every time you ask him how his food is and that's "it's fine" which for him that mean good! If he says "very good" which rarely happens, it means it's outstanding. Well when I asked him about his food he replied "perfection" - WOW that is like over the top for him!!!!! He had the blackened swordfish and I had the bacon-wrapped scallops! My meal was also perfection! Oh not to forget - the service was absolutely wonderful!!!"

  • "This is the second time we have been to this restaurant and the first time we brought our friends. Our server was incredible, to match the food and the wine. When I made a reservation, I mentioned that we were celebrating our friend's birthday and after dinner, a piece of Key Lime Pie showed up with a candle. I never mentioned a thing aside from the reservation. Amazing service. Thank you for a great night!"

  • "I love seafood and dine frequently on both sides of Lake Mtka. Wanted to enjoy Blue Point, especially after a local magazine raved about the Shellfish Bouillabaisse... Raw oysters were great, and the shaved horseradish fun. PEI Mussels were disappointing - small in size, and sauce tasted like lemon juice & white wine; I scowled upon first tasting it... what happened to dredging one's bread in the sauce? Not with this one. Bouillabaisse: Mussels were small & the stew nothing special, though half-lobster was good - but there was no other seafood in it. Bread pudding ridiculously over-flowing with raisins and not that great, though they add novelty by pouring liquor over the dessert upon serving. Overall, just wasn't impressed."

  • "Scallops and duck were very good as a combination with a good combination on the sauces. Duck could have been a little rarer and better trimmed but still very good."

  • "Our waitress, Sandy, was delightful and very good. However, the overall service I rated only fair because the manager had an attitude about her. For example, when I called to request a certain section a couple hours before our reservation, she acted like they were very full and she would do the best she could. We were seated where we wanted, but she acted like she was able to do us a big favor. At end of dinner, she was nowhere to be found and the restaurant was empty (9:00) so we went into closet and found our own coats and could not tell her about our experience. The restaurant was almost empty the whole night. The chef's welcome bruchetta was brought out after the appetizer which is not the correct order."

  • "The atmosphere was very nice, quite room so conversation was easy. Waitress was excellent and very attentive. We had the Steamed Prince Edward Island Mussels in a shallot garlic white wine sauce and was wonderful. And for the price it was a fair amount. I had to have a cup of New England clam chowder, which was creamy and I could easily gad that for dinner. I had the Duck and Seared Maine Scallops with Caramelized Fennel Mashed Potatoes, Demi, Buerre Blanc. the duck was cooked perfectly and the scallops just melted in your mouth and yet still had a firm body. My wife had the Arctic Char with rutabaga, carrots and parsnips. This too was very well prepared. I highly recommend this place and well be back"

  • "I preface my review by saying our guests picked the restaurant. Based on prior review, I'd never had gone. There are SO many extraordinary restaurants in the TCs and here you overpay for atrocious food. Crab cakes the size of lemon slices, just as tall, filled with mayo and bread crumbs. Fish entrees overcooked and rubbery, dishes oversalted to the point of inedible. Why is this place still opened? Crowd looked like neighbors so I have to assume it's simply convenient to walk to and comfortable for them and money is not an issue. It's so disappointing to consider the meals I could have had for the price I paid.I only respond to solicited feedback when I'm overly impressed or extremely disappointed and I'm afraid this is the latter."

  • "We chose this restaurant for our 26th anniversary dinner and our high expectations were far exceeded. The food was delicious, engaging without being pretentious or screaming for attention. The service was the home run. Our server was knowledgeable, listened to our likes and dislikes, attentive without intruding, friendly without trying to be chummy, and very professional. We'll be back."

  • "My husband and I dined her on New Year's Eve. We enjoyed the flavor of our dinners. I got the swordfish and he got the tuna. We had the crab cakes for an app. They were tasty but small. Prices were too high. The service was fair. Server wasn't overly friendly and didn't seem too enthusiastic. We expected more for a holiday evening. To sum it up, the food was good but the overall experience wasn't great. We will not dine here agin."

  • "Due to our logistics, we had the place pretty much to ourselves with a 10 PM reservation. Excellent service, wine and food capped off a great year. Although we were too full, we still shared a fantastic piece of key lime pie."

  • "Based on this experience I wouldn't go back but it may depend on where you're sitting. My husband and I went for a quiet Friday night "date night" and were seated in the back area. The room was lovely, but just before we were served a group of 10 were seated next to us and the acoustics in the room were so bad (or maybe they were just a loud group), that my husband and I couldn't even hear each other talk. For a $100+ dinner for too - I expected more. Granted we didn't ask to be moved, and in hindsight we probably should have. The food was OK, and the rest of the ambience seemed nice."

  • "Always the freshest fish and seafood, prepared consistently well. Somewhat traditional preparations. Probably the most professional and consistent service in the city. Friendly and polished."

  • "We hadn't eaten at Blue Point for a few years and decided to take a friend there to celebrate a birthday, as she was a fish/seafood lover. The place was even better than we remembered it. Very attentive service and delicious, interesting preparations for the fish and bouillabaisse we ordered. As high-end seafood restaurants go, this one is an exceptional value. We will make this one of our favorites."

  • "BEST seafood in the Twin Cities and second to NONE. My wife and I grew up near the ocean in Massachusets and Maine, and know great seafood. Blue Point would compete with the great seafood restaurants in new England and the food makes us think we are in New England eating at a great Boston or Maine seafood restaurant. We come often and will continue to come often. Highly recommended."

  • "Bluepoint always does a good job in Wayzata. The food is great, service is great and not rushed. The wine list is extensive and very good also. The food was very good from the salad to the entree's and the bread pudding. We were in a side room which was very quiet and cozy. Entree's and wine are at the high end but worth it."
