Diner Reviews
  • "the food was excellent -- as always. The menu is all about the seafood -- lots and lots of fresh choices. The prices have gone up, but it is BYO which is a plus. The only negative is the noise level which gets quite loud as the room fills up. "

  • "First the bad- this place is expensive, even for Princeton. The food is excellent however- perfectly cooked and presented no frils. Some unique selections on the menu that are must try's- crab avocado cocktail- Wow is it good and the edamame dumplings! Enjoy!"

  • "Excellent fish! Try the octopus! Definitely the best restaurant in Princeton."

  • "Enormously expensive...typical seafood house menu...noisy as an infantry firing range...parking a (bad) joke...pencil BPG in for one dinner per annum at most...snobby like much of Princeton."

  • "My wife made are reservation a month before we went. LoL when you get there, Can walk right by of the line of people waiting to get in. Food was Great, service was Great, atmosphere was wonderful, ,But when it came to dessert that is another Story. We order the brownie with ice cream on top. The Brownie was like one of those you get when at a service station, dry & not so soft, I mean it was Bad., I am not sure who their Vender is, or were they buy them from? But need to work on that brownie. If you told me they were make there, I would say that was a Lie. The Brownie we did get was from the side piece. You know when you have a bake sheet pan & you have the piece that are on the corners or go along the pan. ., But besides that a AA+"

  • "If you are interested in sea food, the blue Point Grill is the place to go. The menu is extensive, almost all with sea foo (with a couple of escape" items at the bottom of the page. The service is friendly, attentive and quick. And the kitchen can deliver seafood as it should be -- simply and carefully. The restaurant is usually crowded and noisy, sounding like the customers are having a good time."

  • "Simply the freshest, most varied and perfectly prepared seafood menu in the region. Staff is professional and knowledgeable of the unique characteristics of each offering. Extremely popular so great that they got over their initial non-strategy of not taking reservations. It's easy to get stuck on old favorites here and cheat yourself out of taking advantage of the menu's depth. It's usually on the noisy side but not too bad."

  • "Once again, the clams and oysters were incredible. We love the oyster tasting menu. It is so much fun and so delicious. The house salad is huge and delicious. The creme brulee was divine. The mango sorbet heavenly. Can't wait to go back to what has become my favorite Princeton dining experience."

  • "Blue Point is the best seafood restaurant in central New Jersey. It even exceeds the restaurants along the shore. There is a wide variety of fish that you don't find anywhere else. The fish is simply prepared and is consistently cooked correctly and delicious. I particularly recommend the New Zealand suzuki mullaway. The restaurant is BYO so there is no bar bill to contend with."

  • "Crab cakes are a must! Origiinally from Maryland, I usually avoid crab cakes...not at Blue Point. Made with lump meat crab as well as smaller crab meat, bound together with the tiniest bit of bread crumbs and mayonnaise, they are spectacular, falling apart as you eat them. The accompanying sauce adds a bit of tang while not overwhelming the crab. add garlic smashed potatoe and the creamed spinach...a meal fit for the fussiest foodie. Oysters are fresh and served on a bed of ice. One of my party had surf and turf and raved about the meat as well as the gulf shrimp. Key lime pie. Or chocolate hip bread pudding are a great ending for a superb meal as is the cappuccino. Will return many times! Reservations are a must!"

  • "Wonderful variety of seafood, many that you often don't see elsewhere, prepared perfectly. Scallops, Mullaway, and Mahi Mahi were all outstanding. Even the sides are yummy and fresh. Open kitchen, outdoor dining, and BYOB."

  • "The fish is fresh, it's a BYO that you have to have a reservation for Ben on a rainy Monday night. The food is incredible and prepared in a basic but incredibly delicious way. The atmosphere is relaxed. Feels rather New England to me. Authentic seafood dining. Never had anything I didn't love."

  • "The seafood at this restaurant is almost always outstanding. The service is more than adequate. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys fresh, well-prepared seafood!"

  • "The overall experience is quite enjoyable here -- the menu is fantastic, the food preparation fresh and delicious, the service excellent. It's a BYOB. But the restaurant is small, crowded and noisy, the only drawback (apart from parking, which is always a challenge in Princeton, although we were able to find 2 street spots down Pine Street, 1/2 a block away). We sampled the Rhode Island chowder (brought some home), the etoufee and the crab cakes. For dessert, creme brulee and vanilla sea salt ice cream. Fabulous! Having said all this, we will definitively go back, and hopefully try out one of the outdoor tables if we get lucky and get a nice warm evening."

  • "Our dining experience got off to a great start via the energy and expertise offered by our server. The fish selection was excellent and the food was prepared fine, save for a steak that was over done. (perhaps one shouldn't order steak at such a fine fish establishment) I would return to this restaurant, but it struck me that the tides have turned with this "bring your own" - it used to be that BYO's saved the customer a little money. At least on this evening, The Blue Point seemingly charged a lot more as a means of making up for lost alcohol revenue."

  • "The best seafood restaurant around.....always the freshest and tastiest selection from a wide variety of fish and shellfish from all around the world. Everything is always cooked to perfection and the sides are the best! Service staff is efficient, friendly and very knowledgeable about all the fish and shellfish varieties. It helps that it is also BYOB so you can bring your favorite wines or beer."

  • "We always enjoy a well-cooked and attractively prepared supper here. The only drawback is the acoustics which makes for a very noisy atmosphere. We can manage a conversation when we eat here as a couple, but we no longer come here with a third or fourth person; that requires too much shouting to be heard."

  • "The food was delicious, everything from appetizer to entree to dessert. The mahi mahi was grilled and nicely seasoned. The broccoli was excellent."

  • "I ordered the mixed grill and my husband ordered the sable. Mine was prepared well, although possibly somewhat over cooked. His was less cooked because he asked for it that way. He was very happy with his. We also ordered the sardine appetizer, which I was not as happy with because I thought it was somewhat fishy tasting (the main dishes were not)."

  • "My husband and I grew up in Maryland, the home of crab and crab cakes made from just crab with the tiniest bit of seasoning and mayonnaise as the binder. Ordinarily we do not order crab cakes in NJ because we are always disappointed. What a wonderful surprise when the most delicious pair of crab cakes we have eaten in years appeared on our table last Sunday at Blue Point grill. They were tasty, plump, filled with crab meat and the smallest amount of seasoning and binder, pure joy in every bite! The garlic smashed potatoes and the sensational creamed spinach rounded out the dinner. Add to the fact you could bring your own wine, a great place. The perfect ending was the chocolate chip bread pudding accompanied by a perfect cappuccino. ..."

  • "This is my favorite place in Princeton. The seafood is amazing and the raw bar has an awesome selection of oysters. For most dishes they simply let the fresh seafood stand for itself with a simply grilling and maybe a light lemon, caper, butter sauce. If you love seafood this is a good spot."

  • "had wanted to eat here for ages having been born and raised in Princeton but the noise level is too high. Could be our pay-88 year old mom, 20 year old son and two middle-aged weren't the usual customers but that seems unlikely. Food was just okay."

  • "Fresh seafood with a extensive selection. The lobster was amazing, as well as the salmon. The shrimp scampi needed more garlic and spice. Nothing special. Small restaurant."

  • "We drove in from Philadelphia and the person we met at Blue Point came in from NY. We sat down at 4:40pm for a 4:30 reservation. Everything we ordered was great…from appetizers of oysters, clam chowder, crab and avocado martini, and salad to the entrees of lemon sole and swordfish. Even dessert was good. We got up from the table at 7pm…after all, we weren't locals so after a drive of 1 hr and 1.5 hrs to get to Blue Point we sat a bit longer than maybe some others. From about 6:30 on I cannot tell you how uncomfortable we were made to feel about not leaving the table….the hostess, as well as servers, were giving us the "evil eye', marching past our table many times. Ouch."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our selections. Out came the bread and olive oil with good quality capers. We had chowder to start out, then we had oysters and clams on the half shell that were amazing because they had a great selection and they were very fresh. We then enjoyed grilled octopus and that was exquisite. It had a great smoky taste from the coals and fresh olive oil and was nice and tender. My son enjoyed mussels over linguini and was pleased that the mussels had a nice smokey taste from being on the coals as well. I enjoyed some calamari. The atmosphere is similar to some busy place in NYC small, and crowded but that is usually a great sign of good food. Enjoy...we highly recommend a visit!"
