Blue Plate Oysterette was inspired by East Hampton summer lobster bakes and mouthwatering lunches at Montauk’s favorite roadside eateries. With influences like Pearl Oyster Bar and Mary’s Fish Camp in New York, Oysterette serves lunch and dinner seven days a week with a menu straight out of the seafood shacks you find on the East Coast. Chunky, overflowing lobster rolls, buckets of steamed clams in broth so flavorful that bread demands to be dunked, clam chowder, mussels in broth, ceviche, and raw shellfish so fresh you can smell the ocean. Filling the void in the Westside restaurant scene for a casual, beachy, seafood restaurant and buzzing neighborhood vibe appealing to both surfers and studio heads.Continued

  • "Food was amazing. Lobster Mac and cheese was huge and had generous helpings of lobster. Clam chowder was delicious as was the lobster roll and oysters. Key lime pie was spectacular. They ran out so we left and came back for it and it was 100% worth it. Only critique was the close quarters. We had to pull out the table in order for me to get into the booth. Might as well been sitting directly with the people on either side. Less than an inch between tables made it awkward for what we were hoping would be a romantic dinner."

  • "we went during dineLA week and it was beyond delicious. 3 course meal for $45 per person. i had 6 oysters (OMG i want some just thinking about it), a dressed lobster roll with sweet potato chips and their famous key lime pie. my boyfriend and I ordered a cup of clam chowder to share... (he ordered his own 3 course meal) and it was more than enough food. every bite i took was amazing. the oysters were fresh like they just caught them. the lobster roll melted in my mouth so savory. the key lime pie, it was HUGE... my favorite part was the pie crust. i will definitely be returning. this is a MUST try if you are in santa monica"

  • "My husband, two small children, and I had a great experience at the Blue Plate Oysterette this week. We had outside seating, which was perfect for our two small children (ages 2 and 4). The oysters and seafood were excellent....both my husband and I were very pleased with the quality of the meal. The wine selection was also very good. The kids menu was a step up from most kids' menus, which was a happy change for us...they loved the shell pasta. Our service was very good, particularly from the floor manager, Marie-Pierre, who took the time to play with our kids and make them feel special. She turned the evening from "great experience" to "unforgettable experience." All in all, it was a perfect family date night."

Not sure what changed in the recipe, but larger pieces of meat and less fillers would be much better (like it was a couple of years ago)"

  • "They seem to be going for quantity not quality when it comes to their raw oyster selection. I don’t think I’ve ever seen hungry people leave uneaten oysters on the platter because some were just not good. Steamed clams were mushy, the lobster roll is good but too small, but the crab cake was excellent. For the money there are far better seafood restaurants on Ocean Ave. that won’t sell you a so so oyster for $3."

  • "BP Oysterette is great because of fantastic location with ocean vu, good-to-very-good food, and for the area moderate prices - significantly less than neighboring Water Grill, Sushi Roku, BOA, etc. We had the lobster roll sandwich, lobster mac & cheese (recommended), fish & chips, trout, calamari ... everything was very fresh and well prepared. I didn't care for the sauce on the calamari but that wasn't the restaurant's fault - I opted to try a spicier one than I usually have, my dinner companions loved it however. I recommend advance reservations thru open table because if you request sidewalk outdoor dining in advance you will get it w/ unobstructed ocean vus. Our dinner for 3, w/ 2 appetizers, no alcohol, tax & tip, $145. Reasonable."

  • "We were extremely satisified with our experience! We felt so welcome and were seated at a table overlooking the sea! The service was great (especially from the hostess) and though our waiter could have been a bit more attentive he was helpful when asked! We were recommended the lobsterroll and fish and chips and it was delicious! The dinner felt a bit rushed but when we asked for a pause before dessert that didn't seem to be a problem! Overall a great experience, best dinner during our three weeks on the west coast and definitely a place to visit again and recommend to others!"

For a seafood experience in a great setting across the street from the beach in the heart of Santa Monica, we truly enjoyed a great dinner. Although a little pricy for the setting and what you get, the food experience was well worth it. I would truly recommend for anyone who loves oysters, lobster, seafood in general. Very, very good. Our service became a little spotty towards the end of dinner. Otherwise, the service was very attentive. Depsite the shortcomings noted, would still recommend. We will come back."

  • "As locals, we finally stepped into Blue Plate Oysterette last fall, and it proved to be a great weeknight go-to for easy in- easy out good food. We went often for an quick tasty and quality dinner. Tonight however tilted the scales to a no-go. Sorry Jenny. We went with a 7:45 reservation on a Tuesday night- we arrived at 7:50 to be told there would be a 5-10 minute wait. Wait we did- on a bench outside in the cold evening air. 20 minutes later - the 3 hostesses at the front could not tell us when we would be seated. One mentioned she was in training- so could not answer the question. Really? Unacceptable in a town with too many good restaurants who actually care. Maybe consider your front end help? Blue Plate Oysterette is off the list."

  • "Some of the food was great (lobster roll, oysters), but there were a few disappointments - and for the price, they shouldn't have occurred. Ordered a whole lobster and weren't given any "utensils" but the claw cracker - no picks to get all the meat out of the tail, claws, etc...who doesn't provide those? OR, once requested, doesn't even STOCK them? The grilled artichoke had hardly any meat on the leaves - very young artichoke, under cooked and a waste of money to have ordered. The dorado was completely covered in a tzatziki sauce, which tasted good, but it didn't state anywhere on the menu that it would be almost completely covered with this sauce. I mean, there was a LOT of sauce."

  • "The food is great and I love the ambiance and location, but this restaurant has never been able to get it together in terms of their service. I had to wait 15 minutes to be seated after 8pm, when I booked an 8:00pm reservation from 3 weeks in advance. And as per usual, the waiters were inattentive. They didn't come take our order until long after we had been seated, never refilled our water, or even tried to stop by our table and check on how we were doing. I wish I never had to tip them because their wait staff is so incompetent."

  • "The coating on the fish and chips was soft and very oily, which made it quite soggy. The person who cleared our table didn't ask if we wanted the 2 untouched fish packed. Guess he knew already knew it wasn't worth it. The baked clams had a lot of sand and the topping was not crispy. The fried clams were "okay." At least they weren't oily or soggy. "

  • "We tried this place for date night and loved every thng about it. 15 minutes prior to our reservaions, we received a text that our table would be ready when we arrived. Upon arrival, we were seated right away. Our server was great and the food was outstanding and so fresh. I had raw clams on a half shell and my husband enjoyed a crab cake...yum. We shared a crab louie salad, and the entrées were the salmon and mahi which were both well prepared and so delicious. "

  • "If you can manage Santa Monica MISMANGED terrible traffic, it took 20 min to go around the block to be on the right side for their excellent valet parking. you will Love this restaurant. I have been there 4 times and each experience was great. Every thing I have tried was wonderful especially the whole fish. Service the management all contribute to this being one of my favorites."

  • "We've eaten at this place a few times. I am not sure if the chef was "off" on Saturday night, but our food was very average. I had grilled Mahi Mahi, which tasted of heavy salt, and my friend had grilled oysters - again the only thing she could taste was salt. My side of spinach was soggy and flavourless. The fries were okay, but then who cannot make fries? I think that was our last visit. "

  • "If you are looking for fresh fish cooked properly with a waitstaff that knows how to treat their customers, then come here. The only complaint was that the lobster mac n cheese was too runny and needed much more cheese. Go there and order the lobster roll. It is as close to Cape Cod as you are going to get."
