A word from Blue Plate Oysterette
Blue Plate Oysterette was inspired by East Hampton summer lobster bakes and mouthwatering lunches at Montauk’s favorite roadside eateries. With influences like Pearl Oyster Bar and Mary’s Fish Camp in New York, Oysterette serves lunch and dinner seven days a week with a menu straight out of the seafood shacks you find on the East Coast. Chunky, overflowing lobster rolls, buckets of steamed clams in broth so flavorful that bread demands to be dunked, clam chowder, mussels in broth, ceviche, and raw shellfish so fresh you can smell the ocean. Filling the void in the Westside restaurant scene for a casual, beachy, seafood restaurant and buzzing neighborhood vibe appealing to both surfers and studio heads.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "a comfortable neighborhood place with great seafood."
    Dined on 8/26/2014
  • "There's a reason why you see people standing in line outside this rather small restaurant. Good seafood, good service, good prices."

  • "party of 4, service very good, ocean view at outside tables, inside noisy. burger , fish tacos, lobster Mac and cheese, lobster roll all good. fish and chips mushy, not crisp, chips not hot. overall good to take out of towners, but not adding to my list of must re-visits"

  • "We went there for dinner and was disappointed that they don't have a full bar, just beer and wine. The food was ok, not bad but nothing memorable. We ordered the cerviche, lobster Mac and cheese, seafood Cobb salad and the lobster roll. The salads weren't memorable and the lobster roll was half the size of the one next door at the Water Grill. We didn't order the fish tacos but should have because they looked good. We lingered quite awhile and the service was above average."

  • "First visit was good, this last visit was awful. Menu described the artichoke as being steamed. Turned out to be grilled, undercooked, oily and inedible. I had the prawn cocktail. Prawns were rubbery and fairly disgusting. My date has the "wild" salmon, according to our server, which turned out to be farmed and mealy. Short and expensive pours on the rose, which I can buy for $5/bottle at TJs. View nice. Good news is that dogs are OK on the patio."

  • "Our raw oysters were good, no complaint. My grilled Halibut was over cooked to the point of shoe leather. Brussel sprouts undercooked and like rocks. Next table had same problem. Sent back and replacement was ok. Don't go here for anything but the raw shellfish"

  • "They could not find my reservation when I arrived. I showed them the email from opentable and call record from earlier in the day but was made to feel that I had made a mistake. They were slammed and behind but still not a great way to treat a customer. Eventually, they found it. Food was good which is why I tolerate mediocre service and come back."

  • "blue plate offers a great selection of fish and seafood in a comfortable informal space across from the ocean. service was TERRIFIC. clearly the staff is well trained and friendly."

  • "This was a meal worth waiting for. Casual atmosphere at the beach. Menu offered something for every budget. Don't miss the Crudo, and be sure to try the Lobster Roll. Key Lime pie was a real surprise."

  • "The Mussels in Red curry were amazing. Very disappointed with the crab louie salad. They promptly replaced it with a scallop dish that was fantastic. Service was great and very attentive. The way the staff handled my complaint was perfect and really made me feel valued. I will be back."

  • "Loved it! We shared the Mussels in red curry which was to die for and the warm lobster roll was amazing!"
    Dined on 8/3/2014
  • "Es un lugar para una cena informal, tienen buenas ostras y mariscos. La atención es rápida y los precios normales para la ciudad. Como siempre el precio de los vinos duplica la cuenta."
    Dined on 8/1/2014
  • "This is a neighborhood place where you can come right off the beach, sit down and eat. It would not be a place where you wear heels or sportcoats. Given that it has that fish market feel, you get what you get and everything is fresh."

  • "Had always wanted to go to BP Oysterette, but dreaded the wait. Then found we could make a reservation and do a good deed for during DineLA week! Had delicious oysters on the half shell, lobster roll, and key lime pie - all while dining al fresco and watching the sunset over the Pacific with my kids!! And the service was friendly and prompt, too! What more could this Texas mom ask for?"

  • "We were SO looking forward to the food here. As New Engkanders we were looking for a bit of home. Fried clams were so over fried that the poor little clams inside were hard dried out little strings. We thought maybe we just got a bad batch but our next door table mates ended up with the same thing. The clam chowder was good but definitely not traditional. The lobster rolls did not have any flavor :( Better lobster rolls on the good trucks for half the price."

  • "I've been to Blue Point Oysterette twice and both times were great. I'm mad about steamers and haven't been able to find the real thing anywhere in L.A. Well, now I've found it. Cooked exactly as they should be (only don't let them put the bread in the broth -- it soaks it all up). Key lime pie was also wonderful. Paella lacked that wonderful funky saffron taste, though. Probably because the cost is prohibitive. Too bad."

  • "Booked BP Oysterette because of the good reviews and everything is above all my expectations and imagination. Love the vibe of the outdoor seating, price is reasonable (or on the cheap side) - the oysters are fresh and gorgeous - lobster roll is insanely good. Will definitely visit again."

  • "Located on the edge of the world high above the Pacific Ocean is the best little sea food shack in Santa Monica. Go for the oysters, stay for the fresh caught fish or lobsta roll or anything else."

  • "The undressed lobster roll is to die for! Will definitely eat here again!"

  • "Good food but you feel very cramped. Very noseiy and hard to hear your date"

  • "What a great time to take visitors to this place. The weather was spectacular and the food was equal to the fabulous location. Went for lunch and the next day...went back for dinner. The Mussels are the best in LA. Actually, maybe the world!"

  • "Always the perfect spot if you are longing for some Atlantic summer seafood. Everything delicious except the hot dog–do not order the hot dog. But I guess that's what you get for ordering a hot dog in a place like that."

  • "We enjoyed our lunch at Blue Plate Oysterette very much. It was our third visit and never disappoints. The oysters were fresh and delicious, the Butter Lettuce Salad was a delightful accompaniment to our amazing fresh Brioche Roll overflowing with fresh decadent lobster! Some of us enjoyed it dressed and others undressed!"

  • "Food was amazing. Lobster Mac and cheese was huge and had generous helpings of lobster. Clam chowder was delicious as was the lobster roll and oysters. Key lime pie was spectacular. They ran out so we left and came back for it and it was 100% worth it. Only critique was the close quarters. We had to pull out the table in order for me to get into the booth. Might as well been sitting directly with the people on either side. Less than an inch between tables made it awkward for what we were hoping would be a romantic dinner."

  • "The food was amazing! I have always walked by and wanted to check it out, and when I saw it on the DineLA list, I knew I HAD to try it. I love this place. Great romantic date night or celebration. Food was outstanding! :)"

  • "Delicious food, great service, fantastic sitting outside in Santa Monica looking out at the palm trees."

  • "Main negative was bright sun near sunset in eyes of half the outdoor table with no shading option."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Ordered a dozen oysters (mixed), but several of them lacked flavor, and at $36 a dozen, that shouldn't happen. Also, the fried clams small plate was way too small for the price. Otherwise, everything was fine."

  • "we went during dineLA week and it was beyond delicious. 3 course meal for $45 per person. i had 6 oysters (OMG i want some just thinking about it), a dressed lobster roll with sweet potato chips and their famous key lime pie. my boyfriend and I ordered a cup of clam chowder to share... (he ordered his own 3 course meal) and it was more than enough food. every bite i took was amazing. the oysters were fresh like they just caught them. the lobster roll melted in my mouth so savory. the key lime pie, it was HUGE... my favorite part was the pie crust. i will definitely be returning. this is a MUST try if you are in santa monica"

  • "My husband, two small children, and I had a great experience at the Blue Plate Oysterette this week. We had outside seating, which was perfect for our two small children (ages 2 and 4). The oysters and seafood were excellent....both my husband and I were very pleased with the quality of the meal. The wine selection was also very good. The kids menu was a step up from most kids' menus, which was a happy change for us...they loved the shell pasta. Our service was very good, particularly from the floor manager, Marie-Pierre, who took the time to play with our kids and make them feel special. She turned the evening from "great experience" to "unforgettable experience." All in all, it was a perfect family date night."

  • "I went to try out their dineLA menu. The lunch was good for the promotional value.. If I'm in the neighborhood, I'd return to try out some of the regular menu items. I came from downtown LA and it wasn't worth the drive."

  • "We were a party of 5 and sat outside. The oysters were amazing and the rest of the food was okay."

  • "Blue Plate is great. But it's impossible to just walk in anymore - thankfully they started taking reservations! Also, the lobster rolls continue to go downhill. Not sure what changed in the recipe, but larger pieces of meat and less fillers would be much better (like it was a couple of years ago)"

  • "They seem to be going for quantity not quality when it comes to their raw oyster selection. I don’t think I’ve ever seen hungry people leave uneaten oysters on the platter because some were just not good. Steamed clams were mushy, the lobster roll is good but too small, but the crab cake was excellent. For the money there are far better seafood restaurants on Ocean Ave. that won’t sell you a so so oyster for $3."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "This has become our go to restaurant for delicious seafood. The oyster selection is outstanding and the fish tacos are amazing! The clam chowder Is the best chowder in the city. Staff is friendly and attentive."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "Service was quite good. We liked that the server really gave us details about the menu, despite the fact that she clipped most of the known English words into teen-speak, like 'delish' and 'oash' (for ocean). The food was very good--not amazing--and quite expensive. $47 for a nicely-broiled piece of steelhead trout, broccolini, and water! Maybe I tipped too much?"

  • "BP Oysterette is great because of fantastic location with ocean vu, good-to-very-good food, and for the area moderate prices - significantly less than neighboring Water Grill, Sushi Roku, BOA, etc. We had the lobster roll sandwich, lobster mac & cheese (recommended), fish & chips, trout, calamari ... everything was very fresh and well prepared. I didn't care for the sauce on the calamari but that wasn't the restaurant's fault - I opted to try a spicier one than I usually have, my dinner companions loved it however. I recommend advance reservations thru open table because if you request sidewalk outdoor dining in advance you will get it w/ unobstructed ocean vus. Our dinner for 3, w/ 2 appetizers, no alcohol, tax & tip, $145. Reasonable."

  • "Clam chowder is excellent; called "New England," but actually not quite the real thing though. Oysters on the half shell - perfect, steamed clams - perfect. Lobster Roll fairly good, better to travel to the east coast for this one."
