Diner Reviews
  • "Return every time we're in the city. That alone says something with all the amazing food choices in Manhattan. Food is top notch and service is on point. Have tried everything from entrees to their pizzas and have not been disappointed. Recommend if you're in the FIDI District, for lunch or dinner."

  • "The service was outstanding. The manager and the server waited on us and did an excellent job. The menu is limited to pizza. Lots of choices if you like pizza. There 3-4 salads and 4 entrees in addition to the pizza. I had the brick chicken which was very good. Desserts are limited also, 4 choices. Had the apple pie but they have no ice cream. It was good but nothing like warm apple pie and ice cream. Overall, good experience. "

  • "My dining companions & I chose Blue Planet Grill for its proximity to Battery Park City and because they had an extensive gluten-free menu. The GF crust looked like a thawed frozen crust, very thin, but it was pretty tasty as far as gluten-free goes! (The regular crust looked divine!) We had a variety of toppings on our pizzas, and everybody seemed to like theirs. The restaurant was pretty empty since we were dining late night, so it was fairly quiet, and they had the front windows open which was nice. The service was okay - both the host and the waitress couldn't hide their annoyance that we didn't want to see a wine menu and just ordered water, a huge dining pet peeve of mine! Other than that, they were fairly attentive. "

  • "I looked for a place for brunch near the memorial on a Sunday for brunch. This place was perfect. It is right accross the street from the entrance to the memorial. The hostess and server were very friendly and attentive. The food was great. I don't normally write reviews but wanted to this time! Really great find!"

  • "We brought 16 people right after the New York City half marathon race. I had made a reservation, a table was waiting when we got there. The food was great! Please note that while their website says they serve brunch on Sundays, in fact they do not. The non-bunch was fabulous though, with pizzas that were amazing!"

  • "This pizza/restaurant, adjacent to Ground Zero, has a somewhat pushy and poorly dressed man hired out front trying to get 'walker by's 'to come in (like they would at a seedy place in Times Square). Once seated, the waiter tried to push a $50 bottle of Amarone on us-AFTER we said we wanted an inexpensive WHITE wine. Many of the whites were 7-8 years old, another bad sign. Caesar salad was whole pieces of romaine with a tasteless dressing. Small pizzas were passable but a server came over every 2 minutes throughout the whole meal to see if all was "OK". Hate that! Would never go back here."

  • "Enjoyed our meal at Blue Planet Grill immensely! Our meal was tasty and filling. It was also very cozy with the Christmas decor - big penguin, narrow & tall silver Christmas tree and Santa's elf surrounded by Picasso artwork - in a perfectly heated & festive room."

  • "The food was great, our particular server wasn't the most attentive so what we wanted to be a quick bite to eat turned into a loooonnnnngggg meal. Also we were sat in front of the bar area rather than over by the more secluded tables and it was really loud because the tables in the bar area are so close together. But definitely would go back, we've eaten there a few times and the food is amazing. Just would request to sit over away from the bar next time!"

  • "We picked the Blue Planet Grill based on reviews and its location. It is right across the street from the 911 Memorial site. When we arrived at 1:30, there were people waiting to get in. I mentioned my name and reservation and we were told to go right in. Incredible! This must be the worst possible time (Thanksgiving weekend) and we walked right in. Originally, the reservation was for 12 but one more showed up and room was quickly made. The food was delicious. A few of us had hamburgers and they were outstanding. There wasn't a fry left on a plate. The pizza is to die for! I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We went to brunch here -- and the service was a disaster. Our cups were never refilled, our waiter was impossible to find, the food took forever. When it was getting close to paying, however, the waiter hovered like a hungry shark."

  • "We were looking for a place for a quick late lunch on a Saturday and remembered BPG was right in the neighborhood. It was very crowded - it is right across the street from the 9/11 Memorial - but they honored our OpenTable reservation immediately, which was a nice surprise. The food was good and didn't take too long - again, a surprise given the crowd. I had the Chicken Stroganoff which was very tasty, especially if you are a "meat and potatoes" person. My wife said she liked her falafel plate and my son enjoyed the chicken fingers from the kid's menu. All-in-all, a good experience for a quick lunch, even in a crowd."

  • "Went to see 9-11 memorial and this restaurant couldn't be more convenient. We were four people for brunch. My husband and I ordered the French toast. It came with blueberries and caramelized bananas. It was good but we thought it was a little dry. They didn't offer us any syrup. The other couple ordered omelettes which came with salad. They said it was very good. The omelettes didn't come with bread so they ordered bagels. We also had 1 OJ, 3 coffees with a 25% off coupon the meal came to $70 with tax and tip."

  • "Very convenient location - walking distance 9/11 Memorial. Host/Manager was very attentive. We were sat at a table that was a little uncomfortable and the staff realized immediately and moved us to a larger and more comfortable table. One dish that was not to a teenager's liking was removed from the bill without question, and we were asked if we would like something else instead.Would definitely return."

  • "I enjoyed my dinner at Blue Planet Grill, but the place is nothing to rave about. I hear that they are very busy during lunchtime, but that is because it's mostly filled with tourists. On a positive note- they've got a great happy hour (2 for 1, 5-7 pm everyday)."

  • "Overpriced food for what you get. May be better on a weeknight when the tourists are absent. We attended on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon and this may have been why the experience was less than stellar."

  • "We dined at Blue Planet after visiting the 9/11 Memorial on a rainy Tuesday. We were one of two tables seated for lunch and waited an hour for two turkey burgers to be served. They were delicious, but an hour wait??? The sweet potato fries that we ordered were overcooked and warm, not hot."

  • "A good spot for downtown workers at lunch and early dinner. Service is good, and food is okay with a good variety of pasta and salads to choose."
    Dined on 2/15/2013
  • "A small restaurant with good service and good food. Given the downtown Manhattan location one expects prices to be on the higher end and they are at BPG. We will go back but not all that soon."

  • "I couldn't click any of the features for this restaurant because I don't know what it's trying to be... We arrived to what was essentially an empty restaurant. The service was consistently uninterested which is odd in an empty restaurant---it should have been much better. It wasn't bad, necessarily, but we've anyone who's dined in New York has had a dining experience in a very busy restaurant in which an amazing server made them feel as if they were the only ones in the establishment. Well, we were pretty much the only ones in the establishment and they failed to make us feel that way--it's too bad. The ironic thing was--the food was excellent, absolutely excellent. I can't imagine they'll be open too much longer, which is sad."

  • "This restaurant is a very tight space. But it's proximity to the 911 Memorial make it a good choice for a visit downtown."

  • "The inside of the restaurant didn't make me feel like I was going to receive a great meal, but the food was actually very tasty. The Fish N Chips came out nice and crispy, and the "chips" we seasoned very well."

  • "The waitress who served us was impatient taking our orders. She seems very green as a waitress and not very courteous. We need to help her move the dishes away so she can have room to place the food. At one point, she even tries to push another plate away with the plate of food in her hand. The rest of the staffs were nice and even helped us get the check when she was no where to be found. The food was good. Prime rib was cooked perfectly and short ribs falls right of the bone. However, the tortellini was a bit too salty."

  • "Good value lunch menu: soup, entree and glass of wine for $14.99. Very busy-right across the street from the entrance to the 9/11 Memorial. Reservation was a big plus as people were waiting continually. It's a small, somewhat cramped space though the french doors were open since it was a beautiful day. Very convenient if you're going to the Memorial."

  • "I dined at BPG on a Tuesday night in the company of 5 other good friends as part of our monthly dinner club, and it was quite a nice surprise. This place has the best happy hour; 2 for 1 drinks and a free appetizer! (get the short ribs taco, it's delish!) And the mix master at the bar served awesome drinks--you can't go wrong with any; they're all tasty. Our dinner entrees didn't disappoint. I opted for the chicken, which seemed like a safe choice though it can easily turn into a rubbery, tasteless mess. Not here...it was the best flavored and moist chicken I've ever had. The evening ended on a high note as our hostess was kind enough to bring out a cake for the birthday girl in our party, which we'd planned to surprise. Perfect night!"

  • "We just stopped in after touring the World Trade Center site, and were delighted to find this neighborhood gem! Got a chance to chat with the owner, who is a charming world-traveled man. And his menu reflects the same -- a wonderful assortment of dishes that span from Mediterranean to South American to Mexican. Great soups, great salads, great brunch items! Thanks for a great (and very friendly!) meal!"

  • "We planned/booked BPG for dinner after visiting the 9/11 Memorial, location is convenient right across the street for the memorial entrance 2 adults, 2 kids (15 and 12) and one infant. Menu selection was good, so was the wine selection . The calamari is highly recommended! We all had different selections for dinner and we were very pleased with the quality of the food. I did not give the food full score because of ths tiramisu we had - was a bit dry. Service was great, highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Perfect if going to the world trade site; liked their cocktails, nice bar area. Bartender can do special drinks from scratch style. The food includes good ukranian or russian dishes, which I happen to love. Still has wide selection - no one else was looking for that type of food there."

  • "I've eaten both lunch and dinner now and enjoy the diversity of food. My favorite dish is the fish tacos, which have always been perfect when served. BPG used to be Blue Planet Grill but now has changed its menu and brand. My aunt loved the branzino, while my uncle felt the prix fixe was a great find ($25 including a better-than-average size salad and entree). BPG seems to get a good amount of foot traffic from the nearby entrance to the National September 11 Memorial, and that's a good thing because it's the new kid on the block, and worthy of a try."
