We read that The Blue Pear was closing its doors forever so we wanted to sample it at least once. Our reservation was for Friday Dec. 21, 2012. It was a cold night and parking was nonexistant having to compete with the nail salon next door. The setting was cosy and intimate but everytime the doors opened a rush of frigid air surged in around our feet making it quite uncomfortable. Our server was friendly and informative however throughout the evening continually interrupted the conversation rather than waiting for an appropriate opening. Our drinks were quite good. We ordered the 3 course meal and it was quite good. We started with the escargot, very tasty, and the chocolate sauce made the dish. For our main meal my wife had the chicken, c

While I enjoyed the experience at the soon-to-be-closed Blue Pear I was a little disappointed with the food. Everything was perfectly cooked but nothing stood out as original or particularly flavourful. From the beef tartar plate to the chicken to the flourless chocolate cake everything was well-presented and the service was excellent, but the food itself left something to be desired. Wish the owners all the best in their new endeavours.

We are very sorry to see that the Blue Pear is closing its doors. We have enjoyed bringing many of our friends to this unique restaurant in Edmonton over the years. Dining at the Blue Pear is like nowhere else we have ever experienced. You truly enjoy each of the three courses served. You never feel like you are being rushed. The wine paring with each course is perfectly matched to the type of food you are eating. I had chicken breaded with potato chips on top of potato puree with wild mushrooms. My husband had the leg of rabbit with assorted vegetables. We ended our meal with pavlova served with lemon curd and lemon cello.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner on December 7th. This is a very small restaurant with only 11 tables. The food was ok... They paired some different ingredients to make some unique dishes, which is great. But most dishes nothing special and were lacking flavor! The service was just ok. When we were first seated, we sat for about 20 minutes before anyone even came to bring us water or ask if we would like to order a drink. When my entree was brought out, the waiter (who was explaining what was what on my plate) actually reached out and touched the food on my plate (which didn't even seen to phase him)! Needless to say we were not impressed. This is an overpriced restaurant that we will not be returning to!

This was our first dining experience @ Blue Pear. My husband and I each had 5 course meal in which most of the dishes had an excellent presentation and lots of flavour. I did not enjoy as much beef tartar and milk fed veal, thought that after outstanding appetizers they were missing something. Foie Gras, Ahi Tuna appetizer, quail, escargot, soup of the night-excellent, excellent, excellent! Service was very good and friendly. We will definitely be back! Thank you!

The service was very good. We selected the 5 course meal and were totally stuffed as we start our entree and had to take doggie bags home. The service noticed and asked if we were stuffed if we would like to forego the dessert selection and she would just delete the cost from our bill. Excellent idea. I would suggest having the three course meal but then you'd miss out on the soup which was one of the best courses. Wednesday's you can bring your own wine which is a tremendous idea.

I would return to this restaurant for fine dining. It is very personable, relaxed and quiet- with limited seating capacity(as it seats only about 30-40 people). With that size of room, you know that the food is going to be of good quality and prepared with extra care.

I really enjoyed the pakora and papadum appetizer -- perfectly flavoured for me. I had the rabbit entree and was surprised at how meaty it was. My dessert choice was recommended by the staff (apples and gorgonzola cheese) and although it was good, I found myself wishing I had chosen the pumpkin brulee, as my husband had this and raved about it. We went on a Sunday evening when there are local jazz musicians featured and thoroughly enjoyed it. As the restaurant is small, I was concerned the music (saxophone and keyboard) might be too loud but found instead it was very pleasant. As prices are on the high side, this is a great place for a special occasion.

While I enjoyed my overall experience, I felt that the food was a bit slow to come out and it took several minutes to place our orders when we were clearly ready. It was also disappointing that people chose to dine at Blue Pear in blue jeans and TOMS shoes... it really took away from the ambiance of a restaurant that is at that $$$ level.

Overall we found the experience enjoyable. The food was hot and well prepared. It was nicely displayed. I had a beer and it was borderline skunky and it was replaced without comment or complaint. I also appreciate that beer would not be a best seller in an atmosphere such as this. My wife asked for plain coffee and received a pot of expresso, she could not drink it as it was far too strong for her's or my liking for that matter. The instrumentation was enjoyable, although at times the sound seemed excessive making it difficult to carry on a conversation. Our waiter/waitresses were all excellant and we have no complaints with the service, the food or the way we were treated or received. An enjoyable evening, although a bit pricey.

We've been going to the place since it was called lanjou. The restaurant has maintained quality for food and service with a wonderful wine pairing option for those who want an extra culinary experience. It is a small intimate space that is well done but somewhat plain in its decor but that is a small concern. They change the menu frequently and the creations are sublime for the most part. Highly recommended!

Blue Pear is amazing! From the food to the live music, they did not disappoint. The menu had a great selection of apps and entrees with a wonderful presentation. Yes, it's a bit pricey......if you want a cheap meal out don't look to dine at a "FINE DINNING" restaurant! With the live music on Sunday's the evening is fun, energetic and quite romantic. A great place for Birthday's, anniversary's, or any special occasion. This is our new "Hidden Gem." Thank you Blue Pear for making this our new #1.

As a chef I would say that the Blue Pear was quite good....but not quite great. The plates were executed nicely, but did not particularly demonstrate any fresh ideas. With that said. I would rather have a dinner that masters that basics then one that tries too hard to do something new and fails. I would go back, but there are better restaurants in the city. Still an nice dining experience.

Wasn't terribly impressed with the steak--it was fairly flavourless for $45. The hen was outstanding. The live music was too loud for such a small room, most of the people seemed kind of annoyed with it. I'd rather they do without that, and play the music over the speakers at a lower volume, because the musicians weren't very good either. The servers were fantastic.

The Blue Pear is a place for foodies to dine out. The quality of the food, often locally sources, is invariably very high. The bar set for expectations is, as a consequence, commensurately very high. If the bar is not met, one feels disappointed. The meal was of very high quality, but somehow we did feel a tad let down. Not quite sure why and I am still puzzled by it. The service as usual was excellent and attentive. The staff know their wine and are very professional and demeanor, offering helpful advice when asked. The Blue Pear is a great restaurant for special occasions and for a unique dining experience, especially if its your first time.
