Welcome to the Blue Marlin Restaurant, proudly serving "A Taste of the Southern Low Country," located in Columbia South Carolina's thriving Congaree Vista District.

Stretching from Savannah to the South, and Georgetown to the North, the Low Country is resplendent with the bounties of the sea and coastal marshlands. Succulent shrimp, oysters, crabs, crawfish and catfish abound. Lush greens, corn, rice and ripe red tomatoes are plentiful.   • "We discovered Blue Marlin when our daughter became a student at SC. We have established a ritual that includes taking her to a very nice dinner at Blue Marlin each time we visit her. We have eaten at Blue Marlin on three different occasions; we have never been disappointed with the food or the service. The menu offers options for everyone. I make a habit of ordering an entrée that comes with the grits. My husband favors fried seafood, and our daughter the shrimp and grits; everything is all ways seasoned to perfection and in the perfect portion size. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and the crab cakes as appetizers.The restaurant is always full, but the staff is always very friendly and accommodating."

  • "I used to live in Columbia and Blue Marlin was one of my favorites. Great food, ambience and scene. All around great experience. So when I've visited on business over the past 18 years I have made it a point to eat there once in a while. But because my last 3 visits have been underwhelming, I think this most recent visit was my last. The food is still pretty good but the overall vibe I got was not much different than my last visit to a Red Lobster."

  • "Seeing that this was our first time visiting SC, we were determined to try authentic low-country dining. Let me say, the Blue Martin didn't disappoint. In fact, the food was excellent. The wait staff was extremely accommodating and didn't snub my four year old. It's a little pricey for family dining, so I don't recommend bringing the "gang." Overall, great place to dine. Don't forget to stop by the local shops directly across the street."

  • "A group of 4 of us ate here after a showing of The Jersey Boys at the Koger Center. Food selection was good, service was quick, and ALL of us enjoyed our meals. We all ordered something different. I eat at Blue Marlin almost every time I'm in Columbia. I can always count a having a great meal. Only down side...no bread was offered. Asked for it and we got a small piece (half of a very small loaf) because they were running out. This was at 4:30 in the afternoon. Seems they were unprepared for the after show rush."

  • "Arrived 15 minutes before our 5:45PM reservation for four people. Table was not ready @ 5:45 although booth was empty but not cleaned. Had to remind hostess of reservation. When seated had to ask another waiter to tell our waiter that we were seated. Once our waiter came things moved without interruption. Ambience was noisy and stuffy, although place was packed. Outside doors were opened to help cool the environment but with little effect. Food quality was acceptable but not memorable."

Jeff did a fantastic job taking care of my fiancé and I, even though we wore him out with having to get us so many refills :) I brought my fiancé there to celebrate his birthday and I asked Jeff If he could present a key lime pie with a candle on it to surprise my fiancé. Jeff said he had me covered and he helped make it fun and special. There are so many more things I could say but don't have enough space :) Jeff is a really great waiter and though he has only been there a short time, I think he deserves a raise ;). I am in HR in the QSR industry and people with a personality like his make some great managers :) just a thought. Please tell him to keep up the great work, we look forward to returning to see him!"

  • "We were visiting and this was near our hotel. Had the filet topped with crab and shrimp, mashed potatoes and green beans. Excellent meal! Steak cooked just right, flavorful. Potatoes not too salty (a rarity) and green beans perfect. My friends had shrimp and grits which they liked also. Easy parking and staff welcoming"

  • "Had reservations for 6, on arrival we were crammed into a booth more appropriate for 4. Crammed conditions definitely detracted from otherwise good meal. Wait staff was very good, and food was good as well. Seating issues will definitely weigh in our future decisions on a re-visit."

  • "Made a last minute reservation here on Sunday after the place we had originally intended as our brunch spot had a 45 minute wait. Thank you open table app! I thought that would have a brunch menu, but I was sad to discover they did not. Ended up going with lunch items for our table of 6. Everyone seemed happy, but I thought the service was subpar. Our waiter kept telling us that he was going to return with things like drinks and straws, but it seemed to take an exorbitant amount of time and when he finally did come with straws only the ladies got them. Odd. Wish they would add brunch to their sunday offerings, and that the service was a little better."

  • "Very pleasant experience - ambience, service, good selection of dishes offered and wine by the glass. My only reason for 4 stars for the food ... served lukewarm. I didn't say anything about this to the server regarding the she-crab soup (still very tasty), but did mention it with the crab cake entrée. It was returned to the kitchen to warm up, and actually a new meal served which was at the proper temperature. Delicious."

  • "Blue Marlin was good but not great. The service was polite and competent. The noise level was high but probably celebration of St. Patrick's Day encouraged higher volume. The food was good. We went there for fish and got interestingly prepared dishes but nothing stood out compared with other places we ate in Columbia. Probably the fact that we got a really good white wine was due to a recommendation of the waiter. We're not sure that the wine list was superior, however. For a good meal, we recommend this as a place to try."

  • "Dining at the Blue Marlin is a superb delight! The Open Table Reservation insures that diners start off with a hassle free experience. The service received was exceptional. The appetizer, soup, and entrees arrived in a timely manner - no waiting overtime for the next course. Water and tea were refilled quickly, and the food was prepared beautifully and served with generous portions. Overall, the dining experience deserves a perfect 10. Looking forward to coming back very soon."

  • "If you like or are in the mood for some honest southern comfort food, then this is the place. Our group enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, fried oysters, and the best grits ever! The restaurant is located in a charming part of town and had the weather been a little warmer, we could have enjoyed our lunch al fresco... Next time! The service was prompt and friendly and the bill was reasonable too."

  • "Blue Marlin in Columbia has accomplished something very rare for restaurants: Sustained Excellence. I first ate lunch at the Blue Marlin in 1995, a year after it opened. At the time, it was one of the few restaurants anywhere with a chef who appreciated true Southern cuisine - it was nouveau Southern while the phrase was being created. I still recall a bowl of collard greens that blew me away. In the latter 90s, I was in Columbia monthly and routinely ate at the BMarlin. I rarely go to Columbia now and I enjoyed learning that on my last visit, the Blue Marlin is still hanging in. Very good shrimp and grits. One of the best Key Lime pies you'll eat anywhere. Very good service. Nice ambience. Definitely 4 out of 5 stars."

  • "We stopped for lunch and asked the hostess about parking, she was so friendly and helpful, made us feel like we were very welcomed. Server was also friendly and had such a nice twinkle in his eyes. And of course the food was fantastic! The gumbo was absolutely delicious, as were the tilapia with grits and succotash, and shrimp and grits. We rave about the Blue Marlin to all our friends and hope you can continue to be a great place to enjoy Columbia. Oh and also great Bloody Marys!"

  • "We went to Blue Marlin to celebrate Valentine's Day this year. I had heard great reviews from other students at USC as well as professors. It was fun to get dressed up and go out together. The staff was very friendly and since we had reservations, we were seated right away. The food was very good, my date had the shrimp and grits and I had the vista chicken and both were very tasty. We really enjoyed our evening out and Blue Marlin helped make Valentine's Day special for us."

  • "I was expecting to be wowed because people rave about this restaurant all the time. To my surprise, I wasn't. The "hand-cut steak" tasted very bland and didnt have the consistency of a steak. I felt like I was chewing on gum wrapped steak, after the gum has lost all of its flavor. The Malbec on hand made the steak I ordered bareable. The scallops were okay, but by this time I wasnt expecting much out of this restaurant. Blue Tappas in the Vista has better and cheaper scallops. Those scalops had flavor and took the taste buds for an eventful ride. I won't go back to the Blue Marlin, well, only if someone else paid the bill. I won't waste my hard earned money on this place again. I will say the wait staff was awesome."

Her wine was delicious and my scotch was superb, though I would have made it with a tad less ice. Wonderful all around! Server was polite and quick!"

  • "My wife and I thought we would beat the Valentines Day, dinner crowd and be able to get one of the limited parking spots around this popular restaurant. We were able to do both. Jenna, our server, did a great job of keeping the food coming. Everything arrived hot; from bread, to appetizer ( tasty, flash fried calamari), to our entres. We both had the fried seafood platter special and were not disappointed. The only thing that could have been better was the small crab cake. It could have spent a little more time in the pan and the spices were a little weird. We both left full and satisfied."
