We eat at Blue Marlin every time we're in Columbia. We (usually) love the food, charming servers, fun atmosphere. Tonight was NOT their best. The server was sarcastic, dare i say arrogant. One of our party asked about a dish, and he even said he didnt like heavy sauces yet she said he'd love the oyster skillet . It came in the heaviest, richest sauce ever - did she even know the dish, or listen to him?? When he ate less than HALF, she didnt even comment when she cleared the almost full dish away from the table. Did she even notice, or not care that he didnt eat it, guess not... The round of drinks at the start of dinner were the lightest pours i've ever seen, even two of our party of 5 commented it looked like they got a VERY small pour -- these were cocktails in matini glass, so it was pretty obvious when the glass was not even 1/3 full -- yet one of our party's glass WAS... Food was OK, not great. My steak was cold -- yummy, but cold. Not sure what was the problem but tonight didnt live up to previous experiences, and our friends wondered why we raved about it so much.... guess we'll be taking them elsewhere next time.

5 of us made reservations to eat here before Vista Lights. I am so glad we did. The food arrive d fresh, hot and very quickly considering it was packed! The collards and grits were my favorite. Everyone agreed that the bread brought before the meal was the best we have ever had. We will be back!

Oh Blue Marlin, you have such a gem here, let's refresh it! We went on a Saturday night expecting some fantastic fare and we're met with food that was a little less than. Don't get me wrong, it was good but it has been great here. Our server took her time getting to us and the restaurant was not busy (545 reservation). I had the candied pecan salad--delicious and she crab soup, ok. My partner had the crab cakes, which were good but the sides were lackluster. Come on Blue Marlin, I want to sing praises instead of the Blues!

We had yet another excellent meal at Blue Marlin the night before our mighty TN Volunteers took care of business against the head ball coach and his flock of chickens. This visit has always been as much a priority during our time in Columbia as the ballgame itself. Still confused as to whether asparagus is "out-of-season"-not- or the restaurant (management) buyer(s) purchase produce and other foods on it's menu when they can get the premium bang for their buck? One of the managers told us the asparagus gets smaller late in the year and the $-price-$ keeps going up. I suppose they adjust their menu as to the availability of product and a price they can pass on to their patrons and still make a little profit.

Having been a student @ USC in the 1970's and newly returned to the region, the old train station and former restaurant there was a local hidden secret. It was a great experience to return to that place and find the amazing restoration of the whole neighborhood had occurred. The food @ the Blue Marlin was excellent and we will return there very time we come back to Columbia.

Overall the restaurant is in a nice location in the Vista and the food was very good. We loved the Firecracker shrimp appetizer. We had the salmon, mahi, steak and the swordfish special. All the food was well prepared and extremely fresh. Many entrees had sauces which we asked for on the side. The restaurant accommodated other special requests. The service was a bit slow and they forgot to deliver our soup/salads. The server promptly removed them from our bill when we pointed it out. No manager visited the table after the mistake was uncovered which was disappointing - we were not looking for a credit or anything but an apology would have been nice. Regardless we would return again for that Firecracker Shrimp.

We were in town with my in-laws to celebrate our son's 20th birthday, so we were a party of six and were thankful we could make a reservation on Open Table ahead of time. We had a diverse group in regard to food preferences, from foodies to very traditional, and everyone was pleased with the food. The only exception was the Charleston crab cake, but we are from Virginia and are used to Virginia/Maryland crab cakes made with chunks of backfin crab meat and not many spices. The noise level was high and I could hardly hear the person across from me during a conversation. Our waitress was exceptional!

We were expecting a super fancy, maybe even pretentious kind of place. NOT AT ALL! The service, food, menu options and overall quality of the place was top notch, but the atmosphere was not the least bit stuffy. It was an incredibly comfortable meal and evening. Can't wait to go back again! Thank you so much, Blue Marlin! **The Salmon Pontchartrain was excellent!

Took a group of 6 here for a birthday dinner. The drinks menu includes several creative cocktails. The Wine list is relative short, maybe 3 dozen wines; but, it includes some very good wines at a spectrum of price points. They staff seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by the Thursday Night crowd that arrived early for Parent's Weekend at UoSC; but, we weren't in a hurry so it didn't matter. Our wator was busy but conscientious. Our table ordered She Crab Soup, Crab & Spinach Fondue, Oyster & Shrimp Skillet Bienville, Tilapia Charleston, Crispy Gulf Oysters, and Fried Gulf Shrimp. Each dinner was a generous portions and very good, so no one made it to dessert. I will go back!

The portions are enormous and I went with 2 hungry 18year old boys with eyes bigger than their stomachs! We ordered fried calamari, a sampler platter and the she crab soup to start. That would have been enough right there. The soup was the winner of the apps. 2 of us ordered the shrimp and grits and the other ordered the firecracker flounder. That dish had 2 very large full portions on one plate. The shrimp and grits was plentiful too. We could have easily shared it. Service was great and the food was enjoyable. The boys liked it a lot.

While visiting Columbia my cousin suggested we try Blue Marlin. We made dinner reservations and arrived a 10 minutes early and were seated without a problem. The scene is vibrant but cool casual. We were seated in a large spacious booth. Our waitress Erica was friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. We were not rushed during the apps and entrees. We enjoyed a great dinner starting with a few nice martinis and some fresh warm fantastic bread. The star of the meal turned out to be shrimp and grits which was outstanding. My cousins also enjoyed the flounder and crab cakes. I would definitely recommend Blue Marlin when visiting or for those residing in Columbia.
