Diner Reviews
  • "We were concerned that we couldn't have best of both worlds- a fantastic dining experience with a toddler. However we had excellent food & service and our 2 year old niece was welcomed & comfortable."

  • "Went for Sunday Brunch. The menu and atmosphere were kid friendly. I really enjoyed the Shrimp and Grits. Bar scene was active but not too loud despite World Cup final. We plan to put this restaurant on our Sunday Brunch rotation."

  • "The deviled eggs and pork butt sliders are addictive!"

  • "My friend and I had to wait a few minutes to be noticed by the staff. Over all a great night the food is good and service fair."

  • "I have heard so many great things about Blue Hound and couldn't wait to try it. I finally had the oppurtunity to try it last night and it was even better than I expected. Chris was our server and he was very attentive and had extensive menu knowledge. Since it was our first time we had many questions regarding the menu and he was very patient with us and also gave us some excellent recommendations. Everything we ordered was amazing but the Pork Belly Sliders are a must try. They were the perfect combination of spice and savor and they come in half orders so you can try them in additon to sampling other menu items. Overall, our experience was outstanding and I would highly recommend to anyone who has not been."

  • "I've gone into Blue Hound a couple times. It gets busy but I am usually seated pretty quickly... whether it is at the bar, at a table or in the lounge area and the service is always amazing. Good people, great food and awesome service. It's fun any day of the week. It is definitely my favorite place to dine before hitting the clubs/concerts."

  • "We were staying at the hotel and this place was so hip! The blue dog has a delicious menu. Our teenagers loved it and we even got them to try cauliflower, an appetizer on the menu. It was heaven! We ordered both nights we ate there. Super delicious. Service was great and atmosphere was lively but you could talk. The Swordfish was delicious and the fries were crisp and tender. Delicious food , great presentation and sleek and chic atmosphere! Go!"

  • "Great service!! I love the food. This is my favorite downtown restaurant."

  • "Ordered the short ribs and seafood stew. Hands down, this was the worst version of short ribs that I have ever eaten. The quality of the meat was poor and was basically inedible. Surprisingly, the waiter tried to defend the meal saying that's the way it was intended. The manager removed the entree from our bill. This restaurant became the joke for the remainder of my trip to Phoenix."

  • "We visited this establishment twice in four days. That says a lot for us with two teenagers. Food and local brews were great. Service was friendly and very helpful. Food presentation is stylish. Outstanding place to dine within a gorgeous hotel. Highly recommend!"

  • "I love coming to Blue Hound, we are always greeted with a smile. We came in on a weekday and there dining room was busy, however I we chose to sit in the bar which I prefer. We were greeted by the bartender Juan, who is very accommodating when making blue hounds specialty cocktails and personable. He took amazing care of us, regardless if how busy he may be have been making drinking for the entire resturant. Now let's talk food!!! We ordered the starwberry flatbread which was good yet fries, the fries come with aioli dipping sauce it is so good. In addition to the elote. The elote was incredible!! I seriously will come back just to eat the elote! It's basically corn on the cob deliciously seasoned, with cream and cojita cheese.Auh-mazing!!!"

  • "This past Sunday was our 2nd visit to the restaurant and we'd enjoyed the pork sliders earlier. The website indicated a special Father's Day menu, as well. Imagine our disappointment to be told that on Sundays the only available items were brunch offerings. Although our food was tasty, it arrived only slightly warm. In addition, the server seemed less than enthusiastic about serving us. Can't recommend the place for brunch."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful but it really stops there. Day 1- item ordered was not as it was described on the menu. Day 2-Our server Daniel did not seem to care if we were there or not. Long wait time to have our drink order taken. Descriptions of the items on the menu are not what you receive (for a 2nd time). When asked to split the check in a certain way it came back wrong told Daniel & he rolled his eyes and walked away. Day 3- Dad was staying at the hotel went there the next night for dinner and ordered chicken and when he cut into it blood ran out."

  • "While we were pretty much seated on time, there was lots of talk from the staff about how over-booked the restaurant was and what a challenge it would be to get everyone served close to their reservation times. It was the night of a concert--which meant lots of extra traffic--but it wasn't the first concert in downtown Phoenix so why didn't they know how to prepare for the crowd? The restaurant has a small dining area and unfortunately windy weather prevented use of the patio tables. Food was good--tasted saltier than it was--but the kitchen seemed slow and we were glad we left ample time for dining before the start of the concert. Not sure I'd chance it again."

  • "If u like a lot of seafood, then u might like this place more than I did. The menu had at least a dozen seafood entrees and only 4 beef or chicken entrees. We ordered the cheese plate and had plenty of great cheese but only 3 prices of their "crackers". We asked for plenty more but were given 3 each time and had to wait forever to even ask for more and then eventually receive it. The food was ok but I would not go back"

  • "Hubby had the soft shell crabs. I had the Ahi over eggplant and spinach. The presentation was magnificent. The quality and flavor was excellent. Our waiter spent the right amount of time checking on our needs. It was an overall excellent dinner. Our only regret was we didn't have room for the delicious sounding desserts."

  • "Unusual, interesting menu. Has a good feeling - trendy downtown place, but the service was not so great. "

  • "Tried a little of everything and every bit of it was delicious. Pork belly sliders were the table favorite. I am a sangria snob and though it wasn't on the menu they whipped one up and it was fantastic...secret ingredient...frangelico"

  • "The blue hound delviers. Great ambiance, decor, limited but well performed execution on food. Service was top notch. When in downtown Phoenix, this is a must dine venue!!"
    Dined on 5/25/2014
  • "The appetizers never disappoint but the entrees were a bit lackluster. The short rib which is normally perfection was a bit tough and the soft shell crab dish while good seemed like it was missing something. Overall we were happy and will return again but it wasn't the amazing experience we had a few months ago."

  • "The tater tots are the best ever. Food came out fast had great service. The entire restaurant was beautiful. Would drive out of my way to go there."

  • "Great restaurant nestled in the middle the city. Great ambience in the core excellent food very trendy"

  • "Party of 6. The fried chicken sandwich was awful -- dark color of outside was off putting and looked burnt. Other dishes like lemon ricotta pancakes and chicken and waffles all looked overlooked and dry. Space is hip and seems better place for drinks then a culinary experience despite all efforts on quality ingredients etc."

  • "Loved this place!! Enjoyed the live music for brunch. Food is all fresh with no preservatives. The atmosphere was so relaxing!"

  • "I'm told this restaurant has terrific drinks and it seemed to have a very nice crowd in the bar area. The ambiance and views were pretty cool. However, we’re not drinkers and were both very underwhelmed with the food. The deviled eggs were topped with too much filling and mustard flavor (and I love deviled eggs). The short ribs had an impressive presentation, were cooked nicely but were too sweet and lacked in flavor. The grits underneath were bland but the "hint" of blue cheese created a very odd flavor combination with the pineapple. The seafood flat bread was also boring with red sauce which tasted like it was from a can. The small bits of seafood on top had no flavor expect for the smoked swordfish, another odd flavor of the evening. "

  • "I've been here before and the first time was excellent. This time it was just ok, but I'm pretty sure it's because I had the tuna. Everything else about it was very good and I would highly recommend it, just don't get the tuna."

  • "A fantastic place to have a cocktail and dinner. They have a great specialty menu with bartenders who can customize anything you desire. The service was attentive and the staff knew the menu selections very well. Their advice was appreciated. The menu has several unique selections which lived up to the waiters description. I would return anytime. Also try the rooftop bar for an after dinner drink."

  • "Great location for pre-event meal. Have eaten here several times pre-symphony and/or ore USAirways Center events. Food is pretty consistent but service this time was not up to par. But do like the convenience and good bar area."

  • "One of us experienced a pleasant brunch in the bar two weeks prior to our dinner attendance. This was an immediate reminder we had intended to visit for dinner, and so we did. Service was lacking in one area; although restaurant wasn't at capacity, water glasses at half full were never refilled or requested if we wanted them to be refilled. Rib Eye entree was strewn with gristle; too much for a $36 steak. Elote and tator tot rendition were both admirable."

  • "I dined here for the cocktails. I started off with the angostura sour and enjoyed one of the house-original cocktails with my meal. The grapefruit-avocado salad was so good that I was raving about it later. The rest of the meal was OK. Over all, the cocktails were standard and entree could have been a little more seasoned (i.e. needed more time to the making/creation of the recipe). Additionally, dinner service was good, but checking out was a pain. I accidentally handed back my itemized receipt and had to ask three times for the server to bring it back. She was fairly busy, but perhaps a little forgetful, as it took almost 10 minutes."

  • "This restaurant is a hidden neighborhood gem. The food was delicious, and the portions were perfect. I enjoyed the chilequiles; they were the most authentic that I have enjoyed, outside of Mexico. The prices were moderate and quite fair. The staff were friendly and accommodating. I will return, as it is within walking distance of my residence."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at the Blue Hound restaurant. The yellow fin tuna was the best I have eaten. Very fresh with interesting layers of flavors! The presentation was also very nice. The second entrée was half a chicken, we had no idea chicken could taste this good. We shared our entrees because both were spectacular. On top of great food was wonderful service. The waiter explain the menu and was very knowledgeable about the dishes served. The place can get a little loud but because the food and service was so good we went back for Sunday brunch (chicken and waffles). We highly recommend this restaurant."
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "The first thing we noticed was how loud the setting was. This was a combination of the singer and the accoustics. The next was rather slow service. When our brunch arrived the quiche portion ordered by my wife was small and the chicken in my dish was dry. This place may be better suited for younger adults who appreciate the endless mimosas. "
    Dined on 4/27/2014
  • "I had a girls brunch with friends and the food was amazing especially the bottomless mimosas. I will definitely go back. we are actually thinking of making brunch there a regular "thing"."

  • "We had reservations and there were only few people in the dining area. It took awhile for the server to come out and then over 45 minutes to receive our food. When asked when the food was coming (we were on a time crunch) he states, "I didn't realize you were on a time crunch." This shouldn't have matttered, you should not have to wait over 45 minutes for food; especially when the dining area was not busy. The food was pretty good saving it 3 stars."

  • "Just a memorable experience, highly recommend. Ken, the GM was very accommodating."

  • "This restaurant is in an obvious location but still is a "find." The chef is to be commended for his highly creative, flavorful food! We started with the charred Pork Belly sliders and spiced corn on the cob -both combining unique and rich flavors to common dishes. The avocado salad was also unique with the blood orange highlighting the plate. Our entrees were well anointed swordfish and red snapper highlighted with oregano and garlic respectively. Both delicious! Finally, the pineapple upside down cake for dessert was unreal - I'd go there just for this alone. Combined with unique drinks and a nice atmosphere, this place is worth every penny (and the prices are surprisingly reasonable!) and a "must" when in downtown Phoenix!"
