Blue Hound Kitchen & CocktailsGreat pre-symphonic dinnerThree friends and I had tickets to see Idina Menzel with the Phoenix Symphony so I checked for places nearby where we could have a decent dinner and a couple of cocktails. Blue Hound K&C is only 3 blocks from Symphony Hall so the location was perfect. Most of the dishes on the menu could be ordered as small plates, medium plates or large plates. So as not to fall into a food coma at the concert, this was ideal so we could try a few different things, share some plates, and still not eat too heavily. The bacony tater tots, scallop ceviche, ribs and cauliflower were highlights. The food, cocktails, service and prices were spot-on for what we all needed that night. I'll definitely be back for more.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, better drinks! The food was amazing and the drinks were better. Ive had quite a few craft cocktails in New York and San Francisco, and Blue hound ranks right at the top of the list.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for LunchI went here for lunch and dinner and preferred lunch over dinner the food was much better. It's a great spot for lunch and lunch meetings. The fries were awesome!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMI have eaten at the Blue HoundI have eaten at the Blue Hound for lunch and dinner and I was not disappointed, however, I went for brunch and I was slightly disappointed. First the highlights, Nicolette the hostess and Daniel (?) my server were top-notch.
Now...I ordered the egg white frittata with goat cheese, no discernible goat cheese, none and I love goat cheese, it was the main reason I ordered this item. My guest had the basic breakfast but stated the sausages had no flavor, how is that possible and he mentioned the coffee was either too strong or heated for too long.
I will return to try again, the ambience is great and the staff are wonderful...6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMIn the rotation! The Blue Hound is in regular rotation for the wife and me. Outstanding and friendly service, interesting and delicious food...and make sure to get a bourbon Old Fashioned while you're there. Outstanding!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for dinner beforePerfect for dinner before an event at Symphony Hall which we have done twice. Will do so again.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed lots of little platesWe started with drinks and "starters" and never got to big plates. We could order smaller versions of lots of things and that was great fun. Plus everything was good - pork belly sliders, lamb meatballs, mussels - all good. We had to sit in the bar area and it was too noisy for me - I would not return unless we could be seated in the main restaurant area. Reasonable prices - excellent bar and wine selections. We had a very nice evening.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBlue Houndgreat food. good service. worth a trip to Downtown Phoenix !5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMI ordered the crab cake fromI ordered the crab cake from the lunch menu. I received one small crab cake. Nothing else was on the plate except the crab cake and some sauce. It was fine but very very small. Comically small. Everyone at the table thought it was hilarious. Should have at least been served with a salad on the side or something. Everyone else enjoyed their lunch. The hangar steak salad looked great. Great place for a quiet lunch meeting and excellent service.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA great experienceBeaitiful place with excellent food and attentive service. Get the steelhead trout and don't forget the pineapple upside down cake.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMDelish! We went for Mother's Day brunch and had a fabulous time!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for local flavorsI put together an entire plant-based meal and was totally satisfied. My waiter gave me many good suggestions, even that i could have small tapas-sized portions of various offerings. I was there on Mother's Day and was offered a chocolate creme brûlée on the house for the occasion. I definitely picked the right restaurant!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMvisiting Phoenix for conference.visiting Phoenix for conference. read local review online ten best restaurants;, Lived up to revue. . Creative cocktails and tasty tapas are not to be missed! The bacon jam on the mini-biscuits is heaven!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experience. PortionGreat dining experience. Portion sizes a bit confusing but the sercer helped navigate the menu successfully.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and good service!Excellent food and good service! Ambiance is very modern rustic and high end but with a local feel. Food and drinks came fast...I would recommend. Only downside is valet parking is $12.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSnacks and appetizers areSnacks and appetizers are the best part of this menu--creative and just big enough to share yet still try a whole bunch of them. Service is "relaxed," which means you kind of have to egg them on if you have a show to go to, but the staff is really friendly so it's hard to get too stressed about the pace. Cocktails were well prepared as well.
We posted several photos on Foodspotting if you'd like to look at the menu.
Fun vibe. I'd go back.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMBreakfast NachosWe went in for Sunday Brunch and are VERY happy we finally made it there! The food was great! They had a couple of guys with guitars up at the front of the place. We will be going back here again for sure! The "Breakfast Nachos" (which I renamed from Chilaquiles) was absolutely amazing! My wife loved her egg white frittata as well.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent eclectic menu. CocktailsExcellent eclectic menu.
Cocktails were amazing.
Server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Great dining experience.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMRefreshing Food with SoulI was truly impressed by the food and cocktails. I appreciate the talents of a great mixologist and they definitely have that. I was with a large group with picky and diverse eating habits (including a vegan chef) and everyone was pleased. I love the reduced portion options on some of the menu items. The bowl of Gazpacho was HUGE, great, just a huge jump in size from the cup. I also had the ceviche bay scallops and several appetizers. It is a fun balance between a quirky take on classic American cuisine and a modern foodie's bistro. We will definitely be returning and I think the inventive yet approachable cuisine will carve a niche in the downtown Phoenix dining scene. Well done.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMService was great from BellmanService was great from Bellman Ben to the Hostess and waiter.
Food was really good. Menu's diffrent, I was not sure what i was ordering, but I love it.
Had a nice anniversary diner with my husband and the staff gave us a card. very nice added touch.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFun restaurant with greatFun restaurant with great service and yummy food!!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFoodies check this place outWe love the unique recipes. Also the rare drink list is cool, I love "the darkness cocktail". Very impressed with the cheese plate and pineapple dessert. The prices are fair for the quality. Also very nice touch when staff all signed a card for our anniversary, very nice. A real foodies retreat. Sit on the patio and "people watch" the streets of downtown.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat potential here but notGreat potential here but not quite executed as well as it should.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat bartenders. ExcellentGreat bartenders. Excellent food. Excellent service. Unique menu but the dishes are simple and not over the top. Caramel popcorn is creative and tasty - couldn't stop eating it!. Loved Blue Hound.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingThis place was simply amazing. I would recommend them to anyone!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTry the Johnny cakes - probablyTry the Johnny cakes - probably the best of our selection, although every dish was very good. Server was good. Hostess staff was lacking in any gracious welcome, so don't let that turn you away. Only complaint is they don't validate for valet.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatest cocktails I haveGreatest cocktails I have had in the greater Phoenix area! Outstanding service. Very hip surround.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMvery worth itWe arrived a bit early and they offered to seat us immediately or we could wait. It was a nice touch to give us the option.
We sat by the glass window wall giving us the best view of outside with the comfort of the indoor climate.
The waiter was prompt and attentive- mentioned we were going to the comedy show and he made sure we were not rushed but had everything we needed as he understood this was only part of our evening. He was even savvy enough to down sell me on a shared plate... another server or runner brought our food but knew the status of a missing item.
Great staff, great ambiance, food was delicious. Prices were ok considering location.
Try the mac and cheese!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA foodie's heavenWe went to the Blue Hound before heading to a Suns game. It was beautiful outside, so we opted to sit on the patio. It was a bit noisy from the street traffic, but expected. We started with cocktails, which were small, but well-made. We had the Kale Casear salad as a starter. It was pleasantly bitter and a nice change on the classic. I had the fried quail with foie gras cornbread and sausage and red bean gravy. Outstanding!! My husband had the short rib that was probably a foot long. After telling the server, part of it was inedible due to it being very chewy on the outside, they brought another that he said melted in his mouth. I would recommend Blue Hound for anyone looking for a real "foodie" experience. The décor was very hip too3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved this restaurant andLoved this restaurant and their staff! Food excellent!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA New Classic Downtown ExperienceWe arrived well before our dinner reservation because we had heard good things about the bar. The drinks were on point and made directly in front of the customer, which was a great way to feel engaged. The servers at the bar and later at our table made us feel welcome and kept drinks and food coming at just the right pace. The hostess mentioned that the restaurant was expecting several guests attending a concert that night (we were as well), and we appreciated how the staff provided a very memorable experience while still accommodating guests' after dinner plans.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe attended BHK before catchingWe attended BHK before catching Jim Jeffries at Stand Up Live this past weekend. The service was outstanding from the moment we booked the reservation. The only negative was the noise level.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Gatsby! This is it!This place was great. If you like Gin, you will love this place. The drink menu has a "speakeasy" vibe to it with fun and imaginative cocktails.
We also ordered dinner which did not disappoint. The shortrib was amazing and the blue cheese grits it came with still haunt my dreams.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGastropub atmosphere. HaveGastropub atmosphere. Have the pork belly - delicious and decadent.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PMChef Steven Jones has putChef Steven Jones has put together a modern, upscale menu and concept restaurant. The ambiance is cozy with room for groups and corners for couples. The food is a very interesting tapestry of dishes with an unexpected twist in each dish. They offer full and small servings, which is a nice touch. Great appetizers and desserts also. Clear to see why this is rated among the best.2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMCheck. It. Out.The daring cocktails and adventurous cuisine took our taste buds for an awesome journey. Our guide along the way was probably one of the most knowledgeable yet unpretentious servers we have ever encountered. We had just come from the ballet and it was a perfect upbeat post hang. I could also see this as a great place to start your night (pre-game for the less polished) on your way to night out at the club. Makes me believe there is finally some hip yet upscale culture in downtown Phoenix after all! Check. It. Out.2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food/drinks/serviceWent to Blue Hound for the first time on Valentines Day and they had a prix fixe menu which was outstanding. We got the drink pairings which were equally amazing. Our server was fantastic, knew every detail about each dish and how the flavors were complemented by each paired drink. He was also congenial and humorous. The manager came by to check on us and he also showed the utmost professionalism. We had such a great meal that we asked to speak with the chef and he thankfully obliged so we could thank him personally for such a wonderful and creative meal. All in all this was a wonderful dining experience that surpassed both my date's and my expectations. Highly recommended.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AM2 dye 4!!!From the hostess to the chef, the restaurant felt very comfortable and inviting. The dinner (BBQ Kobe Beef) was superb and service as well. The dessert (Upside down pineapple cake) was to die for :). Thank you for a wonderful experience.2/8/2013 12:00:00 AMa downtown gemCreative menu, great prices, helpful, friendly staff, hip vibe.
It's all good!2/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great time and yummyWe had a great time and yummy food. I requested a table with a view when making my reservation through Open Table and they delivered!2/2/2013 12:00:00 AMwhat countsGreat food with a waitstaff that remembers that the customer is most most important part of each experiennce.1/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe took advantage of theirWe took advantage of their appetizers and half-meals to eat our meal "tapas-style". The bacon tater-tots were done perfectly, the Kentucky fried quail was great, and the sauce rib was unique and great-tasting. I say "rib" and not "ribs" because we ordered the half-portion which was one very large rib that was more than enough for the two of us. The service was just that right touch of being timely and helpful without being intrusive. We will add the Blue Hound Kitchen to our list of favorite downtown Phoenix restaurants.1/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
