Diner Reviews
  • "The Chef added a few new lighter menu items for spring & summer. Good additions. Great service by Zach H. Perfect spot for pre-concert dinner. Near Symphony and other downtown theatres. Also, come back for a nightcap."

  • "Menu sounds enticing but food is uninspired. Feels like it is simply "assembled" in the kitchen, with no thought given to flavor or presentation. I ordered the carrot, ginger, apple drink and it was served at room temperature, not even chilled. Kale Caesar salad was chewy and pretty much inedible. My friend ordered the tuna nicoise and couldn't even eat the tuna. Something isn't right in the kitchen. Very disappointing."
    Dined on 4/10/2014
  • "Food was great, bar selections were creative and delicious. Noise level was off the charts, to the extent that the server had trouble hearing us and that I was hoarse from yelling at my companion by the end of the night."
    Dined on 4/8/2014
  • "Blue Hound is my favorite restaurant in the Valley! They never disappoint! Atmosphere is amazing and the food is top notch. I love dining somewhere I feel the chef has the freedom to explore and create memorable dishes."

  • "I am definitely going back for brunch this coming weekend. The shrimp and gritz were delicious and the service, as always was very timely and appreciated. They're so attentive!"

  • "We had a wonderful time! The service was as great as we have experienced. The food was delicious!! Highly recommended!"

  • "Went Sunday for brunch . Awesome place in the middle of downtown . Will definitely going back for dinner . Caleb kept my mimosas full and very attentive . Cheyenne checked in on my table and expressed how great of a time I was having . A must spot everyone needs to check out"

  • "As a local I love to head to my favorite place blue hound, I absolutely love it here! What brings me back apart from the food is the staff! Mike and Rob are MY bartenders, it's nice walking into a place and instantly being greeted by name and a smile on their face. Although I have been here countless times before I have yet to write a review especially highlighting these guys, they deserve to be recognized for their work and attention to detail. Thank you both!!"

  • "Really unique dining experience! Menu was fresh and creative, cocktails were perfectly balanced, and the service was spot on! Nice Job Blue Hound!"

  • "Service and attitude excellent. Food was at best good, could use improvement in quality control, Chk each plate before it goes out"

  • "Our group dined early before a ballet performance. We shared three plates and a bottle of wine. Our server was helpful with suggestions for both food and drink. Our divided check was $22/ea and we were very satisfied with the quality of food, the friendliness and promptness of service, and the value. I have been here three times and it's always lively and energetic, with interesting food choices."

  • "To be fair to the server, he was busy. The place was jammed, but it took an exhaustingly long time for drinks and the check to arrive. The food was average at best (except for the roasted cauliflower which quite tasty - the best part of the meal). A ham dish was actually unpleasant -tough and dry- and we complained. Blue Hound was kind enough to not charge us for it. In fact they admitted that others were complaining about it also. Perhaps on a less busy night we would have had a better experience."

  • "Enjoyed Blue Hound, great modern atmosphere, good food and service."

  • "Perfect place to dine before an evening event at the ball park, arena or Phoenix Symphony. We had the Salt and Pepper Crispy Shrimp after being warned that it would come with the heads intact. I will guarantee you will get over that very quickly with this tasty entrée!!"

  • "Apart from excellently prepared food and impeccable service, I always seek out new and imaginative culinary experiences. Blue Hound offers all three: The waiter was friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable and non-intrusive; the food was very tasty and well prepared; and the menu offered a whole host of dishes and libations that piqued one's curiosity and invited further exploration. Blue Hound is one of those restaurants to which I will return on numerous occasions to explore its interesting culinary landscape further. My out-of-town colleague, with whom I had shared some of the better restaurants in Phoenix while he was in town, remarked that Blue Hound had been his favorite dining experience so far."

  • "Food was overpriced - ordinary. Nothing special - run of the mill. Very small portions. No side included - must be ordered a-la-carte. Cheap beans under fish."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "Unfortunately we did not eat here. Only had a glass of wine. Nothing on the menu struck any of us. When we asked the waiter for help we were left more confused then we were before. We could not substitute things if we did not like them. I was a waiter for 10 years, if I had a table that told me, they think they were going to have to eat else where, I would take the time and find their likes and dislikes, find something that matched on the menu and guarantee their satisfaction. Instead our server picked up our menus and told us " You wont find better food any where else." And he may of been right, but he never took the time to help us navigate the menu."

  • "Beat a path to this exemplary restaurant, excelling in cuisine, wine, and service. Great options for the vegetarian ~ my friend chose the roasted cauliflower and wild mushroom flatbread, and the dishes are dynamite. I opted for the barbecued beef short ribs and had never before tasted ribs this good. Great wine list. Classy indoor setting, but we opted to sit outside, overlooking CityScape and couldn't have been more pleased with the pacing of our service and the quality of our cuisine. Customer service is a ten. And a big shout out to a great waiter, Justin."

  • "Menu sounded very intersting but food was "fair" and unispired in practice. It was expensive for what it was and the flavors didn't stand out."

  • "Everything about Blue Hound made for a perfect birthday dinner - food, wine, ambience and a special upside down birthday surprise cake."

  • "Open and modern but warm feeling design, with a second story view of the city. When approaching from the street it's a bit challenging to find, but a kind Phoenix Ambassador pointed us up the stairs to the restaurant. The menu is small but offers a nice variety of salads, starters, and mains. The ceviche tacos were a taste treat; the red snapper was generous and well prepared.the salad with grapefruit and avocado was small but nicely seasoned and artfully presented. This restaurant is a good addition to downtown Phoenix options. I would return."

  • "Food is marginal but the drinks are so worth the visit."

  • "What an absolute great dining expeience. Great energy, over the top service and the menu choices were outstanding. Great choice for casual or business dining. We will be back. Mark"

  • "I was disappointed in the Lamb dish. It was salty, not much lamb, lamb flavor was overly strong - won't order it again."
    Dined on 2/25/2014
  • "Fabulous decor inside. Really cool place. They had music, ( a very talented guy on guitar/vocals ) which was great. But from the moment we sat down, the service was slow and the food took 50 minutes to be served. The restaurant was not busy what so ever, so there was NO excuse. Just another example of a restaurant with poor to no management. It seemed like the place was being run by a bartender, on waiter, and a cook..... So much potential, but they don't take their fine establishment seriously. The "bottomless" Bloody Mary seemed to be mostly mix, next to no vodka."

  • "Went to Bluehound on a Sunday before a Suns game. Other local establishments were closed for whatever reasons on a Sunday which allowed our party of 8 to try Bluehound for the first time. Located in PHX City Center and the lovely Hotel Palomar, Bluehound does not disappoint. Our table was waiting for us and the service was outstanding. Fun, creative drink menu and good wine and beer selection. Bluehound combines great high-end comfort food with a great atmosphere and choice of indoor or outdoor seating. If you don't want to put up with the Fox Concept hype of the Arrogant Butcher, step next door to the Bluehound for your next outing."

  • "We had an absolute blast there and can't say one negative word!!! We enjoyed their eclectic bar, lunch & dinner menu, not to mention the very friendly staff."

  • "The restaurant served a prix-fixe menu, so I'm not sure my experience is representative of their usual, so take this for what you will. The first course was oyster and sausage which needed more than 3 small rounds of toast. Next was a very nice lobster and avocado salad that needed some acidity. The 3rd course was a foie gras creme brulee The combination of foie gras with the egg custard resulted in a cheese-like consistency with no taste except for a meaty sensation. 4th was a steak which was nicely done, though the choice of a dauphin potato seemed odd. Finally, desert was a chocolate ice cream heart which was grainy. Overall, every course had some minor flaw, and the 3rd course was awful. I wouldn't return based on my experience."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "I thought the fixed price menu was overpriced and a very strange menu at that. Service was a little slow... I was a fine evening overall but I honestly would not go back"

  • "went for a Birthday celebration, had and awesome time! This was my fourth visit to Blue Hound, and was just as enjoyable as the last few visits. Great food, with awesome service. Sat out on the patio this time, weather was great and just made the whole evening more enjoyable! will definitely keep going back to Blue Hound Kitchen!"

  • "I would recommend a reduction of the sodium used in your dishes. You can taste the food better with a little instead of alot."

  • "Went for Valentines day. Had a great time the food and and drink parings were fantastic!"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "This was such a disappointment! The setting was lovely the food was terrible and the service marginal. The first course was tasteless, we had no idea what the second course was but it tasted like Crisco with salt on it! Horrible! The lobster was like rubber and again tasteless. The steak was the best part but not very good."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The service was amazing and the servers are extremely knowledgable about the food and cocktail menu. I definitely will be back and recommend it to anyone and everyone!"

  • "Stopped in for a quick meal and drinks before the Suns game. The waiter was very helpful with food selections and mindful of our schedule without feeling rushed. We all chose from the appetizer and salad menus. Everything was flavorful and properly portioned. The downtown location is great with a good view of the city from the dining room. It was a little cold for outdoor seating but the patio area looks great, we'll try it when it is warmer."

  • "Excellent service & delicious food. Table ready and set at reservation time. Large round table available for larger parties. It is somewhat set apart from other diners making the noise level a bit quieter, easier for conversations with a big group. Great overall experience."
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "One of the menu options (if your whole table agrees) is to have the waiter and the chef prepare a 4 course meal with 2 drink pairings - all their choice. Our party of 5 opted for this and were NOT disappointed. It was phenomenal!!! We had such a great time and the food was heavenly. Be daring and let them decide for you!"

  • "Short ribs with blue cheese grits were amazing, tater tots and deviled egss for appetizers were much more impressive than they sound :) highly recomend."
