Overall I enjoyed my meal here, but if the service is not improved, I'm not sure I'll go back very often. Our reserved table was over 30 minutes late. When seated out in the building lobby to wait, the hostess took our drink order. Fifteen minutes later, the waitress came out to tell us the hostess didn't understand our drink order so we repeated it. Fifteen minutes later we finally get our drinks. Ten minutes later, we were seated. Not a good way to start. But the food was good, the drinks were good, and the ambiance quite nice. I'll go back in a couple of months hoping they have the operations streamlined and smoothed over.

The restaurant itself was very cool, loved the ambiance and the menu, but I think we just had an off night where they weren't expecting a big crowd due to the convention in town. We were there on a Sunday evening, it took them over a half hour to seat our group, and our drink order took about another half hour. Once they realized that we had been totally neglected, the manager and our waitress went the extra mile to ensure the rest of our dinner was flawless. Food was good, but nothing to write home about....but what was excellent above all else was their cocktails. I highly recommend the "old fashion" it was to die for. I"ll go back but I hope they are better prepared next time.

Blue Hound Kitchen and Cocktails is a welcome establishment in the Downtown Phoenix culinary scene. Chef Stephen Jones has created dishes (and snacks too) with his own interpretation of comfort and Southern soulful cooking. I ordered a few different items off of the snack portion of the menu (tapas style). The pulled pork with the white corn johnny cakes were amazing. The bottomless butterscotch popcorn with ancho chile provided enough sweet and heat that I wished it was sold in tins. In addition to these items, I also ordered the plum tomato flatbread, mac n cheese, and Kennebec fries. ALL of them were equally good. The drink list is amazing and there is something for everyone. No doubt that I will be going back again.

This restaurant was not our first pick, but it was open Sunday evening and was close to the concert venue and parking. The food was over-priced for the quality and the menu choices were not impressive. The hostess did not note our reservation. The server was pleasant enough, but one of the meals was the small size rather than the meal size. Overall, pretty mediocre.

Disappointed by the strict reservation requirements: credit card to hold and a $25 chg if one of your guests does not show up. Asked if it was a special occasion, which it was. Absolutely nothing was done for it so why even ask? They do not allow outside food to be brought in (so no dessert for us from Ollie Cake...boo). Great tater tots on the appetizer menu. Other than that, not blown away by this place or the food. Server seemed very knowledgable though.

Outstanding menu, execution and service in the trendy Palomar Hotel in Cityscape area. Eclectic American small/large plates with fun and originality. Standout: califlower soup, duck pate, pulled pork on jonnycake. Your quest for the ultimate short rib ends here, served on the bone. Great meal, great attitude.

Overall we had an enjoyable experience because of the group we were with, the view is fantastic and the service was EXCELLENT. But the food was not good. Not one of us liked our dish. They had a tater tot appetizer that was OK. We agreed we'd like to go back just for the view and the ambiance for a glass of wine and an appetizer. Everything about this place is fantastic except for the food. Ignore the hype.

We had the roasted cauliflower, and mac and cheese appetizers. Both were good but quite small for the price. Entrees included the short rib and the hamachi. My friend enjoyed the hamachi, but I found the short rib difficult to eat (it is huge and the meat is not cut easily off the bone) and awkwardly served, and the over-the-top smoky flavor was unappealing. The drinks were fantastic. My friend had the Floradora, and I had a citrus gin martini. I will be back for the drinks, but probably not the food. The place is beautiful, though!

Work in progress. Food not delivered all at once except desert. Waiter needs to be properly trained. Place wasn't packed open tables in the area, but we had to wait 15 minutes after seated till he showed up, then 15 more before wine, He had to be shown proper wine service. Kids got their drinks 5 minutes after the wine. Waiter said to my 11 year old the pork belly wasn't spicy. Sorry somebody should explain to the waiter that a ghost chile isn't a Halloween treat. We all liked the food, except, one gave up the ghost early. Yes, I will try again but may give them a little time.

Industrial meets urban-chic-trendy type of atmosphere. Nothing to buffer the sound so it can be difficult to carry on a conversation. Service was good; waitress very knowledgable about menu offerings as well as cocktails. Innovative and creative menu - maybe too much so. High prices for small portions. Flatbread was uninspiring; mac & cheese was more appetizer size than entree size. Pineapple Upside Down cake was yummy.

Decided to try this restaurant after seeing it on a Top-10 list on-line. Unfortunately, we didn't get a Top-10 experience. The waiter was attentive enough, but it took a long time to get our entrees. We started with a salad that was very good. But one of our entrees was very salty and the other was bland. When the waiter asked how the food was and I told him mine was bland he just said that's the way that fish is and didn't even ask if I might like something else. We were going to order dessert, but we were so afraid that it would take too long (we were headed to a show), we decided not to bother. Overall, we were disappointed in the experience.

We decided to eat a pre-concert dinner here since it was featured in Phoenix Magazine's top five new restaurants for 2012. A cocktail was a must try considering the full name of the restaurant, Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails. My husband and I both decided upon the Summer Splash, a refreshing mixture that included vodka, lemon and basil - so good my husband ordered a second. We started with the Gorgonzola Flatbread with cured lemon, rosemary and red bliss potato, very tasty. For the entree, my husband ordered Kentucky Fried Quail over foie gras cornbread and I ordered Grilled Rainbow Trout with sweet corn maque choux. We were totally impressed with the imaginative play of flavors and decided this is our new favorite downtown restaurant!

Service was a little slow at first but once we got our drinks and apps ordered, everything went smoothly and our waiter was knowledgable and friendly. The food runners still need some table side manner training. Many were confused as to where to put plates, how to put them down gently and even in some cases, how to pick them up. The food was overall pretty good. The most memorable dishes we had were the tapas tator tots! Crazy good and flavorful. And the yellowtail tuna carpaccio, fresh and melted in your mouth. The short-ribs, which were advertised as a signature dish, were ok. They were cooked nicely, very tender, moist and juicy, but not all that much flavor and kind of fatty. Great cocktails, fun atmosphere. Will definitely return.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 10/6/2012
The Blue Hound Kitchen is a nice concept that somehow seemed to get lost in traslation. The staff are all impeccable, the service friendly, the setting chic. Yet when the reasturant fills up, the noise reaches a feavered din that has the faint whiff of people trying too hard to be cool and have a good time. With lound music and shouting, this is definately not a date reasturant. It would be a nice (albeiet pricey) place to hang out after work with a bunch of rowdy coworkers, but then so is Hooter's for a lot less money and a lot less class. Although the ribs came highly reccomended, I say avoid them at all cost as they were extremely greasy, and we left ours uneaten on the table.

I took my friend for her birthday. When I made the reservations I was asked if there was a special occasion. I told them it was my friend's birthday and they asked for her name. When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess asked who was the birthday girl and the rest of the night, everyone from the hostess to the servers wished her a happy birthday and called her by name. The service was wonderful! This was by far, one of the friendliest restaurants I've been to. When the server brought our check, he handed my friend a birthday card that had a personalized note from all the staff. They not only took the time to sign the card, they also wrote notes. It really made my friend feel special. The food, prices and decor are amazing too!

I was a bit disappointed in this place given what I had heard. We had a series of salads for an appetizer and they were pleasant, but just. Suprisingly bland despite ingredients like roaster beets, peaches, cheese, nuts, greens. My entree was a roasted rib, which was Flintstone proportioned. It came in a overly designed bowl that made it very difficult to eat and get to the cheddar grits beneath. Again, good, but just. We ordered an Arizona wine and were underwhelmed, so we ordered another. It came about 30 minutes later and when we told the server that we no longer wanted it, she got all huffy on us. The place was full of hip 20-somethings and felt more like a pick-up joint than a restaurant.

What a fun place! I was excited to find the Bluehound participating in Restaurant Week. From the starter to the dessert with the paired cocktails no one was disappointed. The roasted cauliflower with pistachios, currants and capers offered contrasting flavors of sweet and savory. I think my table mates were envious of my Kentucky fried quail. Positively crispy on the outside, sweet and moist on the inside and definitely 'finger licking good.' Three out four thumbs up for the corn tortilla ice cream served alongside the cheesecake and our evening was complete. The portions were described as smaller sized as part of the special menu. However, they were just 'right' sized for three courses and the drinks. There will absolutely be another visit

Very cool joint. Hip, big city, downtown vibe - which is quite unique for Phoenix. Food was extraordinarily creative (chile popcorn, quail with cornbread, Nutella shake). Everything could have been taken out of the oven a minute or two earlier, but the flavors were delicious. Wait staff was pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable. They could have used an extra server on staff, as things were a little slow from time to time, but service was never inattentive. Last but not least, the cocktail menu was probably the best I've ever seen - superbly original and well executed. Had a terrific experience and imagine it will be even better as the place matures.
