Diner Reviews
  • "We loved the dining experience. The staff was incredible. The food was divine and the presentation top notch. We even loved the soap and lotion in the bathroom that is made on the farm and purchased that as well! I highly suggest going!"

  • "Blue Hill is a must when in New York, the food was creative using the freshest products and sometimes unusual combinations but worked very well. serivice was attentive, but not overbearing and the staff knowledgeable on wine matches. we also liked the small intimate atmosphere."

  • "The combination of excellence with relaxed but nice attire for guests makes for a great experience. We had dinner at 10 pm following the first set at the Village Vanguard. The downstairs softly lit room is always full but not overly loud which also makes for a great experience. We opted for the $85 4-course menu. Our vegetarian guest was thrilled with her selections. We all liked the samplings of raw vegetables. The bread and seed encrusted butter were memorable. In fact, everything was memorable. Appetizer. second course and dessert portions lean toward the small size which is wise when the entree is a variation on a theme of pork, duck or fish. Wine list is strong with good selections about $100. Red wine by the glass was weak."

  • "From the food to the service to the drinks, definitely a night to remember. This is definitely a special occasion restaurant, but you will not be disappointed. The food is truly farm to fork. I loved the added touch of getting housemade sweet vermouth complimentary with dessert."

  • "The ingredients were exquisite and the service was as good as it gets, but for a place that is so celebrated and so pricey, it was strangely conventional. Blue Hill is quiet, decorous, and tasteful, the sort of place that you might take a business client whom you are trying to impress with your impeccable taste and deep wallet or your grandmother from Greenwich who is looking for a high quality meal but one that won't challenge her country club sensibilities. The menu is not the least bit controversial, or exciting, or novel. We were not disappointed by any of the dishes here and you won't be either, but we left remembering just one: an amazing heirloom tomato salad."

  • "Fantastic food and wine pairing was superb! Service was attentive and relaxed but clearly high-standard. Ambience was soft."

  • "5 stars in all categories. First timers - get the 6 course tasting to experience all the delights."

  • "Awesome service and overall very good experience. The only drawback was the duck was quite rare (raw almost - not medium rare as advertised) and the scallops were not quite cooked through. I expected better execution from an establishment with such a good reputation."

  • "I took my husband to Blue Hill for his birthday and it was absolutely perfect. We both chose the Farmer's Feast, and enjoyed every moment of it. From the bundled asparagus, to the scallops, pork, and madeleines with rhubarb jam it was spectacular. The service was top notch without being stuffy and the room was quiet but did not make you feel uncomfortable speaking. We are very much looking forward to going back, and trying Blue Hill at Stone Barns."

  • "No mistakes on the Farmer's menu. Each dish was unique, well prepared and presented. Even the cocktails were great. The wine we ordered was fairly marked up."

  • "A wonderful collection of farm to table deliciousness."

  • "If I could give Blue Hill a sixth star I would! To date the absolute best restaurant experience we've ever had! The guys opted for the 6 course dinner and the gals the 4 course. Everyone loved everything that was served - which is unusual. Our Manhattan-ite friends dined here a few times before and, at the time, didn't think it could be any better. To their surprise Blue Hill exceeded their already fond memories of meals past. The Garden Room was peaceful and the perfect setting for catching up with family and good friends. Fresh, artisanal, innovative, and like nothing else offered anywhere. A truly special experience."

  • "The atmosphere at Blue Hill Restaurant is relaxed and inviting. Service is superb but it is the food that shines here. Everything we tried that night from the homemade crackers and bread with cheese, to the beautiful scallops and Hudson Valley Chicken was a delight to the palate. The Vegetables on A Fence is a playful presentation and worth ordering as well. We will definitely be back to this Village gem."

  • "We love how the wait staff and chef customize the menu for our dietary needs. The Tasting Menu is a perfect way to get the full experience. Each course gets better. Don't hesitate to explain special requests when you make reservations. I would suggest an early dinner because it does get noisy. Ask to make sure your table isn't near a large group. It is the perfect place for a special night."

  • "for the price, I did not like the paper covering the table cloth. Either leave the table cloth off or uncover it or it cheapens the experience"

  • "Outstanding creative fresh food served with impeccable service in a cozy but elegant space. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate our two tweens - making us feel welcome, appreciated and able to fully enjoy a very adult three hour meal. I had the Farmers Feast - you could almost taste the dark rich soil in the asparagus , the briny northern seas in the braised hake served with snow pea puree and the Blue Hill Farm Pig melted in your mouth. My father, who's highest praise is "It's okay" said that "Dinner was excellent." So grateful that you helped give him and my husband a memorable Father's Day!"

  • "The meal was utterly amazing, one of the best I've ever had in Manhattan. Excellent service as well, and the price for the prix fixe menu was reasonable considering the quality and ample quantity of food. Will definitely return."

  • "A true dining experience. From the moment you walk in the door the excellent service is evident. The staff are professionally trained and play their parts nicely. The food is exquisite. Beautiful presentation and every bite a new and delicious taste experience. The tables along the walls are closely spaced together and it feels as if you are dining with the guests next to you on both sides. You can strike up a conversation or try to remain private. "

  • "What an incredible evening and 3.5 hours of memorable bites. Service Director Kate Bell took care of our journey paired along with incredible spirits. Service, Food, and the entire journey was so fun. I could not stop smiling the entire evening. Back of the house, front of the house, everyone is on point. Thank you."

  • "The food was good but definitely not worth the 320.00 we spent on just my husband and I. I feel like there are so many other places in the city to have a nice dinner for less. We will not be going back."

  • "Not for meat eaters. First course was a baby radish. Served raw and whole. Meat was moist and flavorless. $300+ for a couple. "

  • "Very nice and simple chef's tasting menu. Nothing over the top, but everything was fresh and excellently done. Each dish made you want a more of that dish, which in my eyes is what a tasting menu should do."

  • "This was our 3rd time at Blue Hill. It's a place we'll always go back to when visiting NY from Wisconsin. We love the farm to table creations - always fresh and unique. We sat at the bar as we like to do and Ben, the Bartender was knowledgeable and friendly. He knew just the wine for my meal and made our martinis perfectly. This place is a must!"

  • "Blue Hill is the best restaurant I've ever been to. I've eaten there multiple times, always for a special occasion. I was dismayed this time that they have changed their menu to two options; four course or six course. It was much better a la carte. The food is still incredible, but would prefer they go back to the old way."

  • "They have their own farm. The foods were amazing with a lot of thoughts put into the presentation. Very down to earth but consistently impressive with the ingredients used. The service is good. One thing that stops us from giving it a full 5 stars is the crowdiness and the overall noise level. Comes with good friends who enjoy foods. I won't recommend it as a romantic anniversary place unless both of you love crowds."

  • "My partner and I went for a special occasion. We were treated like special guests from the moment we entered the restaurant. Everyone at all parts of the service were very kind and helpful in making decisions about food. The food was delicious--every dish was beautifully presented, incorporated several tastes and textures, and tasted as fresh as if one were on the farm eating. "

  • "Our dinner was certainly an adventure. Loved the serving pieces and the little tidbits served at the beginning of the meal. Best butter I ever had. The staff very knowledgeable about food, but...I was asked on the phone and again at dinner if there were any food restrictions. I asked for no or limited salt. I happened to order pork as my main dish and it was soooo salty. I would rather have been told that that particular dish was not a good idea to get. Yes I would return and be more cautious perhaps try their winter menu. there is no doubt that this restaurant is well taken care of."

  • "Aspargus, ramps, and fiddlehead ferns melded with bespoke pork and with hake made a lovely seasonal treat, as did the the flowers in the dining room. The service is old-school correct with young faces, quite refreshing. Also knowledgeable, including regarding an interesting list of wines and spirits. If you are dining by yourself the lighting is enough to read between courses. Rhubarb with a not too sweet cheesecake was a perfect conclusion. But, if they'd let you do it, the bread and seeded butter could be dinner alone--or as the waiter said, breakfast and lunch also--so good."

  • "Have been wanting to eat at Blue Hill the last several times we have visited NYC. Finally got an early reservation! Blue Hill did not disappoint. It is wonderfully quiet place vs. so many other NYC restaurants. Such a great contrast and made the meal even better. The food and service are outstanding. The farm-to-table approach is refreshing. The only knock is be prepared to choose from a very limited menu...and it is pricey! But...worth the try for sure."

  • "We had a particularly evening at Blue Hill. The food was just perfect. There were many highlights in the meal, one of which was the parsnip "steak". I wanted to find out what a year of dirt-aging and very fine technique would do to a parsnip, a vegetable I would normally not cook, and it was superb, succulent and had none of the slightly bitter taste parsnips often have. Every course had an uplifting uniqueness and freshness about it. This was one of our most memorable restaurant meals as our quite young guests were enthralled for three hours, utterly engaged with the food, slowly savoring every bite of the six course tasting menu, declaring each dish the supreme example thereof. They are still talking about it. The service was exemplary. "

  • "there are many restaurants in the city attempting to accomplish what Blue Hill does, but it's clear why they're not really in the same league. Every dish was superb, service was impeccable, lots of small bites provided free of charge from the kitchen, perfect wine recommendation... reputation here is well-deserved. don't settle for the imitators.
