There are no menus at Blue Hill at Stone Barns; Our Grazing, Pecking and Rooting option is the instant reflection of the day's harvest ($198 per guest not inclusive of tax or gratuity)

  • "The farm is beautiful. Fresh veggies and all starters were a delight, but then the evening slowed down in all respects. Much time was spent with empty glasses waiting for whatever was next. Servers need training-- milling around, looking confused, no one seemed to be in charge of our tablle. Descriptions of food and wine were strangely minimal, even when we asked questions. Main courses were unremarkable-- pork under-cooked and tenderloin tough. Four hours and $900 later (for a couple), the servers suddenly seemed eager to clear everything away. No one said good-bye or thank you. For that price, a small goody bag with some honey or jam from the farm would have been nice, with a warm thank you."

Every bite of food, no matter how small or large, was incredible, and made from the freshest ingredients from the farm. The service was the best we've seen, and our waiter was incredibly knowledgable and extremely personable. We are already looking forward to our next trip there!"

Some of the servers and even captains were uninformed and couldn't answer questions about the food or the farm."

  • "I thought Dan Barber's mission was to educate all of us about organic, sustainable agriculture. I agree with him wholeheartedly. However, his elitist restaurant is available only to the richest people. It is silly in every aspect. I enjoyed myself, but found I was feeling not only too late to the party, but way over charged for it. There must be a better way to do this. Alice Waters and Dan Barber need to get back to basics and not only educate the public about good food, but feed them in their restaurants at prices that allow more people to enjoy the experience."

  • "My girlfriend and I were both excited and skeptical about going to Blue Hill for dinner. It's far out of our price range. As entry-level college administrators, we were coaxed with a gift certificate. We expected the experience to be enjoyable, but were skeptical that the food could be appropriately valued at $200 per person (before wine). We were blown away. The 15 (or more?) courses were incredible, the staff accommodated our dietary needs into the full experience and were tremendously hospitable, and we left feeling like we had experienced Barber's conceptual second and third plates. The place has an Utopian-farm feel to it - not because it's trying to reproduce the feeling of a sustainable food system, but because it's inventing it."

However, if you can suck it up for a special occasion, you definitely get your money's worth. Also, this place is for the open-minded eater. If you're not you will probably be disappointed.   • "I would recommend this place to anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion. The service is extraordinary and the grounds and views are unbelievable. The food was exquisitely prepared and a real delight to the tastebuds. Be prepared to stay a long time - about 3 hours - the food just kept coming and the educational information on the farm was wonderful. Favorite plates were the pig liver with chocolate, poussin with berries and pea mini burgers! Presentation and service was top notch. Wish you could dine like this all the time :-)"

Unfortunately, after going once, you will want to go again and again. I have been to Blue Hill eight times so far and each time the experience has been on par with 3 star michelin restaurants. The bill will be high, but the experience is worth it."

  • "Our last dinner took almost 4 hours. They did not serve any food for over 20 minutes, even though most diners had no cocktail. Then there was a long wait between each of 10 courses. I would have ordered fewer but you can't; they only offer a 10-course menu, so that meant over 3 hours of just sitting, not eating. Not only is there no choice on how many courses you get, there is no choice of what any course will be. It's a totalitarian ethos, the diner's wishes are meaningless. And the wine ordering is bizarre; somm only asks basic vague questions. But what do the answers even matter if you don't know what the wine is served with? They need to speed it up!"

We are pretty laid back and not into stuffy fine dining (we opt for beer over wine and enjoy a laid back atmosphere). We felt taken care of and did not feel out of place. The service staff was very knowledgable and friendly. Since I am in the food world, I really appreciate and respect their on farm restaurant experience. We toured the grounds before our meal and their system of agriculture is truly transparent. A great way for people to learn where their food really comes form. The least pretentious fine dining experience I've had. Only a special occasion visit for us, but would highly recommend. Wish I could afford to dine there more often!"

After our recent meal at BH@SB, I've decided that the only 12+ tasting experience I will ever arrange again will be at Stone Barnes; not even 11 Madison Park or Alinea. This food is of this earth and tastes heavenly. The serving plates and dishes are now of this earth, in a very clever way. A very special place."

Amazing how often they mix up the menu based on the freshest available ingredients; such a creative kitchen & they consistently maintain such an astonishingly high level. Definitely the most beautiful, romantic, one of a kind setting I have ever dined in & some of the friendliest, most competent staff anywhere. The food itself is beautiful, fun, fresh & beyond delicious; they do the best job of any restaurant adjusting the courses to match your likes & dislikes (just express them). Perhaps the only weakness I can think of would be I would prefer a little larger portions of meat in the meat courses, but overall I definitely left full. Cannot wait to return!"

Being invited to sit in the working kitchen for one course was also a highlight. The service was pleasant, attentive, and completely informative when I posed our myriad curious questions. This is gourmet farm-to-table cuisine, beautifully chosen, prepared, and presented."

It was a very special experience. Romantic room, impeccable service, very interesting and innovative tasting menu and wine pairing. The service from the valet to the waitstaff to the person who checked my coat was the best I have ever experienced. Really I can't say enough about how wonderful the service was. The best place ever for a special occasion!"

  • "Some Quick Notes For Those Wanting To Go: Try to have a drink and start your course on the terrace. The meal is really an incredible experience and if you go with that mindset you'll be able to justify the cost. An earlier reservation is key - the whole experience took between 4 - 5 hours. If the store is open, you can buy produce, eggs, frozen meets at the restaurant will keep them in the fridge or freezer for you. They will accommodate almost every allergy or good dislike and tailor the meals accordingly / individually. "
