A word from Blue Ginger
Blue Ginger, located in Wellesley, is Ming Tsai's award-winning flagship restaurant. This feng-shui inspired space offers three distinct dining options. There's the informal Lounge serving Asian tapas in a more casual setting. No reservations are required in the Lounge. The main dining room features an open kitchen for you to experience mastery at work. The menu features Ming's signature East-West cuisine, including his famous Miso-Sake Marinated Sablefish and Black Pepper Lobster. And lastly, there are three private dining rooms for larger groups or functions wanting to be enjoyed away from the crowd.

"Blue Ginger is unusual, not only because of the food or the room, but because it's a neighborhood restaurant of a type not found too often in the Boston area...those of us who live farther away will just have to travel now that the secret is out." --The Boston Globe

Blue Ginger is a wonderful restaurant...It is very pricey...The noise level is very high and the food is excellent...Feel It should be quieter through some renovations and reconsider some price points on some alternative plates plus desserts are expensive thus you have a tendency not to order

...even when the sauce is very good. At these prices though the food should be Outstanding not just Very Good. The Butterfish, the other signature dish, which my wife had, was good but not great she said. My very favorite dish was the mussel appetizer. While a bit spicy, I ate all the bread soaking up the sauce.

For several years, we've enjoyed Blue Ginger's combination of regional specialties with Asian flavors whenever we find ourselves in Wellesley. This visit was no different. My daughter and I each had a seasonal apple salad. She had the chicken in miso; I had a lovely piece of salmon in a ginger/miso teriyaki sauce. Both had terrific Asian-influenced flavors, bright but not overpowering. The waiter was attentive to our food allergy issues. Despite it being a very busy night in Wellesley (3 colleges holding Family Weekend events, and the Head of the Charles Regatta about to open) the kitchen didn't feel strained.

Came to Wellesley for ALC '50 and invited my sister'55 and her husband to join me for dinner - a delightful experience - excellent drinks, food and service. They love the butterfish and I enjoyed the lobster. It was too noisy but otherwise perfect. My friends for the class of '62 had an excellent dinner in a special room.

Chef Ming and team still focused on excellent food and service. The kitchen line is open to the dining room, and the professionalism is present with the calm of a busy dining room. Waiters are well trained, and they know the menu, food source and can recommend wine pairings. The food was delicious. I recommend the chef tasting menu for a first visit. A fabulous dining experience.

The appetizers were very good the entrees were ok. Over glazed and sauced the entrees. Not up to the reputation. Our server was good and attentive. The five of us walked away and said average to good, not worth the money or hype. Nothing memorable to have to come back too.

It had been years since I'd dined @ Blue Ginger. This time I brought my kids, 4 and 8. They truly enjoyed the experience & were angels. Kudos for the paper on the table which turned the 2 hour experience into an art extravaganza. My son, 8, tried lots of new foods & loved it. There were many options for my non-adventurous 4 year old. Best of all, our food allergies were handled perfectly, which is hard to do. The food was spectacular!

My daughter and I were so excited to go back to Blue Ginger. However it was just okay this time. Nothing much is really new at this restaurant and the menu and actual food seemed "tired". The wine list, while impressive, didn't offer a good range of prices. It was either a $50 bottle of wine or a $200 bottle. The best part of our evening was our glass of champagne in the bar. The bartenders were so friends and the bar itself it so classy. Lines of chilling glass await the most beautiful cocktails.

along with about 15 other people ,we came 15 minutes early for a 5;30 reservation the host would not open the bar although the wait staff was seated there when the magic hour finally appeared, he tried to seat us in the rear of the empty restaurant with its appealing (not) parking lot view the wait staff did not start workign until 5;45 .they were instead crowded around the chef for instructions We did nor receive anything until 6 the food was delicious and the waiter nice but not worth the hassle hard to believe that this is a chef owned restaurant warning : the restaurant tables are also very close to each other

Our waiter was the worst we have had in many years. He had no personality, and was very inattentive. We sat for long periods of time without a drink, or while waiting for him to take our dinner and dessert order. In fairness, I think he also had too many tables? However, for the price of the food, and the dining reputation, we expected much more. We have had better service at Bertucci's with a high school aged waiter.

I had a memory of the signature sable fish, succulent, thick and melting in my mouth, that I had three years ago at Blue Ginger, as one of the finest meals of my life. I wasn't surprised that this memory couldn't be sustained with a second visit, but it wasn't even close. Very thin portion that was even a little dry, and the fish more like cod than butterfish. In fairness I did see other plates go by with a slightly thicker portion, but at $41, I would hope that every portion would be of high quality. The others in my party had the flatiron steak and lamb and were raving about their meals. Waiter was outstanding, and a special request for a quiet table was honored.

West of Boston used to be a restaurant wasteland. There was the occasional steak house and, of course lots of cheap Chinese fare. Today, thankfully, that has changed. Nonetheless, for high end dining, Blue GInger wins the award...the best! If you do not want the full dinner, the table in the bar area offer a great small plates selection. And with the expanded space, there are private function rooms as well. Well done, Ming Tsai!

Everything about our dinner there was wonderful: the food was delicious and was served in generous portions and the staff was extremely attentive and friendly. Business meal. We were sat in the back by a hallway to the restrooms and a function room (loudly in use). The waiter was attentive, but was unable to recommend much of anything and also didn't seem to understand a couple small requests. He was working hard and was very friendly, but there may have been a language barrier. The food was spectacular. Would definitely recommend.

Visited place for the first time this week and I can tell that we will be coming back for sure. Exceptional food and service, really enjoyed it. So far best experience comparing to any other place around. From another perspective this place is not cheap, so it is definitely special occasion place rather than every day dinning. The only thing I would change in this place is separate kitchen from main area, not sure why it was done this way, but having open kitchen is not adding anything except additional food smell ...

I had such high hopes for Blue Ginger. I've read so many good reviews in Boston magazine about this place and it has been a perennial on the Top X restaurants for nearly a decade. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Let me just say this, places that are started by celebrity chefs are, in my experience, overrated. Once they get their accolades, they move on and I spend more time in the restaurant than they likely do. Clearly Blue Ginger is one of these places.
