A word from Blue Ginger
Blue Ginger, located in Wellesley, is Ming Tsai's award-winning flagship restaurant. This feng-shui inspired space offers three distinct dining options. There's the informal Lounge serving Asian tapas in a more casual setting. No reservations are required in the Lounge. The main dining room features an open kitchen for you to experience mastery at work. The menu features Ming's signature East-West cuisine, including his famous Miso-Sake Marinated Sablefish and Black Pepper Lobster. And lastly, there are three private dining rooms for larger groups or functions wanting to be enjoyed away from the crowd.

"Blue Ginger is unusual, not only because of the food or the room, but because it's a neighborhood restaurant of a type not found too often in the Boston area...those of us who live farther away will just have to travel now that the secret is out." --The Boston Globe

I had a memory of the signature sable fish, succulent, thick and melting in my mouth, that I had three years ago at Blue Ginger, as one of the finest meals of my life. I wasn't surprised that this memory couldn't be sustained with a second visit, but it wasn't even close. Very thin portion that was even a little dry, and the fish more like cod than butterfish. In fairness I did see other plates go by with a slightly thicker portion, but at $41, I would hope that every portion would be of high quality. The others in my party had the flatiron steak and lamb and were raving about their meals. Waiter was outstanding, and a special request for a quiet table was honored.

Blue Ginger is truly a foodie's heaven. Chef Ming Tsai is inventive and a master of fusion cuisine. Everything about our dinner there was wonderful: the food was delicious and was served in generous portions and the staff was extremely attentive and friendly. We've also been to a private birthday party at Blue Ginger a few years ago, in a private dining room and it too was a memorable evening.

Business meal. We were sat in the back by a hallway to the restrooms and a function room (loudly in use). The waiter was attentive, but was unable to recommend much of anything and also didn't seem to understand a couple small requests. He was working hard and was very friendly, but there may have been a language barrier. The food was spectacular. Would definitely recommend.

Visited place for the first time this week and I can tell that we will be coming back for sure. Exceptional food and service, really enjoyed it. So far best experience comparing to any other place around. From another perspective this place is not cheap, so it is definitely special occasion place rather than every day dinning. The only thing I would change in this place is separate kitchen from main area, not sure why it was done this way, but having open kitchen is not adding anything except additional food smell ...

I had such high hopes for Blue Ginger. I've read so many good reviews in Boston magazine about this place and it has been a perennial on the Top X restaurants for nearly a decade. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Let me just say this, places that are started by celebrity chefs are, in my experience, overrated. Once they get their accolades, they move on and I spend more time in the restaurant than they likely do. Clearly Blue Ginger is one of these places.

I took my husband for a special birthday celebration as he is a huge Ming fan. I am not a fan of the "New York" style seating as it does not lend to privacy if you are a couple. I refused the first table offered because of this. The hostess was not sure what to do,however a more experienced hostess quickly came to our aid and sat us in a more suitable section. Our waiter was outstanding. He was extremely well versed regarding the menu and the wine list. The food was presented beautifully. The quality and freshness of ingredients in the food was evident.

I visited Blue Ginger during dine out boston. Overall the food was good, but nothing special. All the dishes had so much sodium. One was so bad I had to send it back. It is a little bit of a hike form where I live. Because the food was just average, I highly doubt I would ever both making the trek to dine here again.

Overall the meal was good but I've had better dishes in the past at Blue Ginger. My main disappointment was the seasoning because the appetizer of drunken noodles was just over salted from the soy sauce. I tend to watch my salt consumption but couldn't with this dish. It would be nice if they were more sensitive to the public's needs and concerns. No complaints on the entrée of pan seared salmon. It was especially tasty and cooked exactly as I like it. I tried the passion fruit dish for dessert and would not order it again if it's on the menu. I was looking for a palate cleanser but the passion fruit was just too tart (made my body shake.) Did anyone in the kitchen taste this before finalizing it as a dish to server? Great server!

This was Dine Out Week. Several choices on menu. If you wanted their signature "butter fish" dish you had to pay an extra $12.00. It was okay, but not worth the extra. Service should have been much better at this restaurant. Waitress seemed as though she did not want to be there. Never asked how our dinner was and seemed irritated that we didn't want more than the one drink. I assumed she wanted us to run the bill up. The appetizers were good as well as the dessert.

We went to the Blue Ginger during restaurant week. There were very good choices for that menu and we also saw their regular menu. Their regular menu is not huge, but a great variety so that there is something for everyone. We had their suggested wine pairing with the appetizer and entrée which were right on and complements to what we were eating. We were not rushed and our waiter was very professional.

The Charcuterie Board for $15 is the best money you can spend on fine dining anywhere I have been in the country. The Appetizers were outstanding especially the drunken noodles. The Steak was solid but underwhelming when compared to the rest of the meal, i would recommend the signature Butterfish if going entree, though if I went back I'd probably double up on the Charcuterie and go with a bunch of apps, they were that good.

We attended during restaurant week. We had to ask for the restaurant week menu. The fried clam appetizer was spicy but cooked to perfection as was the salmon. The vegetable noodle dish was bland. The desert was very good. We noticed that our service was much slower than all of the people who did not order from the restaurant week menu. We will notgo to Blue Ginger again.

We had a 1:30 reservation and thought it would be crowded since it was restaurant week - but very few people were there. We had met family whom we hadn't seen in a long while - so were in no rush. However, apparently they stopped serving lunch a short time after we were served I guess as we were the only people in the restaurant and we felt we needed to leave rather abruptly. The waiter wasn't especially nice.

We had been told for a long time that we just HAD to go to Blue Ginger. When we got there, the restaurant was maybe 2/3 full. We were led to the only empty table in the restaurant that was not set. Oops. Once seated we could not find the restaurant week specials. It turns out that it was a separate menu that you had to ask for. What to say about the food? The objection that many Asians haven against fusion is that it is just not very good Asian food. Blue Ginger meets the stereotype. The one feature that stands out is the overuse of soya and other sauces. It's reductive of the western impression of Asian food.

The restaurant is by famous chef/owner Ms. Ming Tsai and very popular in the neighborhood. As an Asian, i must say the menu is very imaginative but the taste is too heavy to today's standard of health watch. The chicken breast i ordered is very tender but unfortunately the ginger and soybean sauce is much too heavy. Today, not even in China you will ever taste so salty food. Not much to choose from the menu is another problem. The drinking menu is about 10 times more, maybe that's what you need to go with the salty food. It's an open kitchen so ventilation is poor and you can smell smoke all the time.

My best friend and I went to Blue Ginger for Restaurant Week. With our luck of course Wellesley was under a boil water order so Blue Ginger had to use plastic utensils and paper plates which was a little silly, especially when they brought our expensive wine out in plastic glasses haha. However the food far surpassed the silliness of the situation and they made due with what they could do safely without working water to do dishes properly. After trying it out with Restaurant Week, we definitely want to go back for a super fancy night out!

We ate lunch at Blue Ginger last March for DineOut Boston and again last week. Each time we ate there, everything we ate was either very good or superlative, the service was attentive, and the ambiance was elegant. The food is Asian-inspired, not strictly Asian, so it has interesting and unexpected flavors and is lighter and healthier rather than very rich and heavy. We share everything, and the serving sizes are reasonable so even with half a serving we did not feel deprived. We would consider going there for a special occasion and would recommend it to anyone. Pork satay appetizers were undercooked. Fish in the fish taco didn't taste particularly like fish--overwhelmed by the taste of the sauce. Very good service, pleasant ambiance, but from what we had, the restaurant doesn't seem to have retained the level of quality it had in its first few years. (I'll never forget the lobster risotto they had a few years back!) I wonder how involved in the menu Ming Tsai is now.

Went for Restaurant Week (now called Dine Out Boston), and was a bit disappointed. The service was slow (waited at least 10 minutes for a server, who ended up being very strange), the food was good but not outstanding, and this time, I felt like it was very overpriced. I raved about Blue Ginger a few years ago, but this time, not so much. There are too many other places with food just as good and much cheaper. I probably won't be returning.
