A word from Blue Ginger
Blue Ginger, located in Wellesley, is Ming Tsai's award-winning flagship restaurant. This feng-shui inspired space offers three distinct dining options. There's the informal Lounge serving Asian tapas in a more casual setting. No reservations are required in the Lounge. The main dining room features an open kitchen for you to experience mastery at work. The menu features Ming's signature East-West cuisine, including his famous Miso-Sake Marinated Sablefish and Black Pepper Lobster. And lastly, there are three private dining rooms for larger groups or functions wanting to be enjoyed away from the crowd.

"Blue Ginger is unusual, not only because of the food or the room, but because it's a neighborhood restaurant of a type not found too often in the Boston area...those of us who live farther away will just have to travel now that the secret is out." --The Boston Globe

  • "Great table, great waitress, great food~ EXCELLENT"

  • "One of the few $$$$$ restaurants that is always worth the money."

  • "As usual, our Friday night in the lounge was great! Host was super nice... waitress had a bit of an attitude but we didn't let her interfere with our evening!"

  • "I recently dined at the Blue Ginger for a special occasion and had not been there for awhile. While the food was excellent there was something slightly off on that night. The waiters although pleasant seemed tired and inattentive to some degree. I had to ask for more water and was never asked if I wanted a 2nd coffee. It was a Thursday night and it was not very busy. I really hate to spend half of my time trying to get a waiter's attention it put a damper on the night I could never really relax."

  • "This is the 4th or 5th time we have dined at Blue Ginger. We are from California and we visit our daughter and her family here at least two times a year and we always try to make time for a date night for just my wife and me at Blue Ginger. It rivals the best that we enjoy in Southern Orange County, CA, and oh yes, our server Jill was absolutely perfect and a delight to have serving us. She is a great ambassador for the Blue Ginger restaurant and Ming should be very proud and feel fortunate to have Jill on his team! We'll be back, again and again."

  • "Second time we have been there recently and been a little disappointed by the food. The Korean Fried Chicken was pretty poor"

  • "We had a quiet lunch. Every bite exploded with taste. Food is fresh and creatively presented."

  • "This was the perfect place to enjoy a gourmet meal with friends I hadn't seen in a few years. The noise level was perfect so we could actually talk and catch up. The waitress did not rush us. And the food was amazingly executed. I'd been here many times before and it exceeded my expectations - especially the deserts. Being an amateur pastry chef myself, I am quite critical when it comes to desert. We split a creme brulee and a chocolate cake between four- perfect amount after a full meal. We split 3 appetizers as well. Two of us had the butterfish, the house speciality. I had had it before, but again it was even more delicious than I remember."

  • "We couldn't have been more disappointed in our evening at Blue Ginger. The appetizer wok-stirred mussels were tiny and average in taste. The specialty sable fish at $41 disappeared in three bites. The salmon at $30 was tasty but again a very child-sized serving. The lamb rack at $41 would have been fine for an appetizer but certainly not for a main course. I cannot understand the fame this restaurant has amassed. Perhaps the chef is world famous. But to come away hungry for such a big bill is an insane way to spend your money."

  • "The food is still good, however my wife's dish (vegetarian) was below her expectations, the veggies and tofu were"overfried". My dish a variation of Pho was delicious, my son had a rack of lamb and he liked it. We have been at the restaurant several times, I get the sense the menu is becoming repetitive."

  • "Asian cuisine with a refreshing take. We partook in the Tempura Soft Shell Crab and the Lobster and Steak entrees. The sauces added depth to already good recipes for lobster and steak."

  • "Always top notch, dined on on Poke-eye Tuna and Lobster dish. My companion enjoyed the signature butterfish dish. They just do it right at BG. I'm gluten-free and they have a dedicated GF menu and even provide rice cakes in lieu of bread - very few restaurants do this (legal's seafood is the only other one I know of) so you can have something while your dining companions are enjoying fresh bread. The staff is attentive and very responsive. But really - the food is ridiculously good."

  • "After seeing Ming Tsai on TV, I knew that I wanted to visit Blue Ginger. Being from Hawaii, the fusion food was excellent. It was my friend's who lives on the Cape first dining experience at Blue Ginger and will make it on her TO GO List."

  • "I've been a big fan of Ming Tsai for many years- since the inception of the Food Network!!! My husband and I are visiting family in the are visiting family and couldn't resist the opportunity to sneak away for romantic evening to sample the food at Blue Ginger. We were not disappointed! We ordered 3 entrees to bring some back for my mom, and all 3 were outstanding! The service was good, despite the fact that the place was packed. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys delicious Asian fusion!"

  • "A few different things made this place a standout for us. (1) Great drink selection, notably the dessert drinks. THe "smooth as silk" sake was AMAZING. (2) One of the best kid food selections I've seen. (3) Ming Tsai regularly visits and the night we went, he and his wife were enjoying a quiet dinner together at the restaurant."

  • "We visited Blue Ginger for the first time for our anniversary dinner. The restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The wine list offered a wide selection -- including of half bottles, which we prefer -- and many exceptional values. The food was exquisite and the portions were extremely generous for a restaurant of the calibre. And the service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. A class act!"

  • "Our favorite restaurant with excellent menu of elegant tasty food, a carefully selected wine list and quality service. A must go to restaurant."

  • "I had not been to BG in over a year, and the last time there I was "underwhelmed" with the food. This time, however, I found everything to be well coordinated and delicious. Our server was especially excellent; sensitive to our timing and seemed to intuitively know when to interrupt our conversation and when to stay away. Very rare to find someone as masterful as she!"

  • "Returning did not disappoint. Each dish had its own unique twist in flavors and ingredients . The portions were larger than I remembered, but so good we had no trouble finishing them. Always a favorite when in town."

  • "The restaurant was only about 1/3 full yet the service was very slow. The pork was so overdone that it was edible. However, our waitress only checked on us at the beginning of the service and never checked during the meal to see how it was. When she finally showed up, we told her about it. She offered to make another dish but, truthfully, it was too late. And, we would have expected a show of customer service by offering to buy us coffee but none was made. When the manager came over with the check at the end, there was no apology about the overdone pork. The service and food were seriously lacking. And, there were screaming children in the restaurant that no one working there bothered to address. A truly unpleasant experience!"

  • "Food was bland, under-spiced....but very nice presentation. Looked pretty...the chef relies on adding fried food to things for flavor and texture, thereby increasing the calorie count pretty substantially....service was excellant. Very expensive. You can have a much better meal elsewhere for a third less...i took someone there for her birthday and was kind of embaressed how average the food was."

  • "The food was outstanding and the service was great. With a reservation we were seated right away. I mentioned it was my husband's birthday and they brought over cookies with a candle at the end of the meal. As for the negatives, the ambiance wasn't anything that special and it was very expensive."

  • "As always, Ming Tsai's restaurant provides a unique spin on elegant cooking. Three entrees cooked to perfection with outstanding flavors. Appetizers and wine and desserts were all sensational. WE have been here many times and were pleased to introduce our friend to the joys of Mr. Tsai's visions. Mmmm - mmmm. Just disappointed he wasn't there himself.....wanted to congratulate his talents once again."

  • "We went to Blue Ginger for a retirement dinner celebration for 8 people. It was wonderful! Jill, our server, was very attentive and made our entire meal enjoyable. The drinks and food were absolutely delicious. Everyone left full and happy!"

  • "This was our fourth visit to Blue Ginger over the last five years or so. It is a hour away, so we usually save it for a special occasion, or take friends who have not been before. Food is excellent. The menu is not big, but all of the choices are special, and you won't find them elsewhere. Prices are expensive, but if you watch it on wine and drinks you can average about $50 - $60 per person. Service on this occasion was professional for a restaurant of this quality, but not exceptional. Ming was not on site and I think we have only seen him there on one occasion. Still, whoever was running the show did a good job. One of the best restaurants in the Boston area."

  • "Blue Ginger lives up to it's brilliant reputation! The service was impeccable, the food an adventure in subtle flavors melded together and the atmosphere relaxing. Plan to go back soon!"

  • "We live in town and have been to Blue Ginger a number of times of the years but our last visit really made us wonder what was going on. Our dishes (salmon &pork) were ok. Nothing that remarkable and to tell you the truth their are other places in town for less money with just as good or better salmon and pork dishes. The quality has slipped...Ming is never there and there are no specials so the menu runs as is. This use to be a special place to go to and it was half empty Friday night. I'm disappointed because this is my favorite spot in town."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "A very appealing menu, interesting combinations of ingredients. Bottom line: the food tastes great. Plus, it's a pleasant, vibrant atmosphere."

  • "Hard to park...hard to put up wth (Greeter)...made me wait 15+ min, standing up for my party to arrive..no offer of a drink or a seat...ah, Boston, you either love it or put up with it..Blue Ginger is the sort of place locals love/and we "foreigners" find hard to enjoy other than to people watch... eventually, you realize you can't change (them)..it will always be difficult to park...and you'll always have to endure Bostonians if you venture into their "hood"...the owner/chef prob should know his food is "lost"...so, eater beware...unless you just don't care...about what we do! Food was tasty...just enough variety for an enjoyable lunch...no don't drive out from Boston...not worth the trip but if you're in town, worth a lunch once a year."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Wonderful food! This is my third time going here; I make it a point to dine here when I'm in the area. The uniqueness of the food and the quality are second to none. If you are in the area, make a reservation and go. It's a bit pricey, but is worth every penny!"

  • "We dined at Blue Ginger twice this week and now we are all done. It has lost its specialness. The lunch salad was worse than a salad bar and dinner service was wanting. Our five kids waited an hour for their food. They have lost a customer of many years. Does Ming Tsai know what has happened?"

  • "Heard a lot about Blue Ginger and finally went for dinner with family on Saturday night. First impression was that the place was busy and noisy. The deco was dated and didn't say fine dining to us. The service was good and as expected for such as establishment - nice and efficient enough but nothing special. Appetizers were very good but the entrees had a few missteps. Scallops were cooked very well but overall dish was under seasoned. Indonesian curry noodle was nicely spiced and citrusy but is rather "pedestrian" - not interesting. We didn't stay for dessert as we wanted Asian inspired sweets like sago pudding or coconut or lychee ingredients made desserts but there was none. We prefer Blue Dragon."
