A word from Blue Ginger
Blue Ginger, located in Wellesley, is Ming Tsai's award-winning flagship restaurant. This feng-shui inspired space offers three distinct dining options. There's the informal Lounge serving Asian tapas in a more casual setting. No reservations are required in the Lounge. The main dining room features an open kitchen for you to experience mastery at work. The menu features Ming's signature East-West cuisine, including his famous Miso-Sake Marinated Sablefish and Black Pepper Lobster. And lastly, there are three private dining rooms for larger groups or functions wanting to be enjoyed away from the crowd.

"Blue Ginger is unusual, not only because of the food or the room, but because it's a neighborhood restaurant of a type not found too often in the Boston area...those of us who live farther away will just have to travel now that the secret is out." --The Boston Globe

Came in from Georgia and was looking forward to dining at Blue Ginger since I've been following Chef Ming on TV for years. Service was good and the food was just ok. No wow factor here. I was expecting a lot more. Very salty and no flavor in all the dishes. We had the Tuna Pokie appetizer and it was average and bland. Needed to ask for fresh cilantro to bring out some flavor. Sauces are not good. Also had there spring rolls and again sauce just didn't taste good. Entrees Flat Iron Steak and Black Pepper Lobster was just again just ok. I left scratching my head and what a waste of time.

Our party of 3 ordered several dishes - some were spectacular, others we would definitely not order again. Spectacular - both appetizers - Tuna poke (chunks of tuna tartare on top of a crispy rice cake) - Foie gras shumai. The shumai were great. A small amount of sauce goes a long way; the dish was served with way too much sauce. Spectacular - flank steak entree. Well presented with sides and sauce that really added to the dish. Reasonably good - butterfish. The fish itself was great, but the sides were a bit boring. Not a winner - New England Pho. My wife had a couple of bites, but the dish was really not well put together. The noodles were a bit undercooked, the broth lacked pizzaz. I tried the dish, too, and only wanted one bite. Dessert was a winner.

Admittedly, I went on a Wed. night at 6:15, but even with an almost empty restaurant, the service was not particularly attentive. We had to wait just a little too long to have our drink order taken, and then to have it filled. They were very accommodating to a dietary request, and the food was good. Not spectacular. If I lived nearby I would go again and try other dishes and a different night, but I will not make a special trip to get there.

My wife and I are not from the area. We spent the weekend in Boston and caught the commuter train, not realizing it would make us 30 minutes late. We were however, seated immediately, even though the place was packed. My wife and I were immediately welcomed, and a glass of wine for her and an Arc de Triumph for me completely relaxed us. I had the drunken noodles, which were a perfect appetizer. With just the right amount of heat, they paved the way for what had to be the best fish I ever had for my entrée - the sable fish. The key to cooking that fish (also known as the butterfish) is to cook it just until it's done, thus emphasizing the delicate richness of its flavor. My wife had the tofu stir fry. Not generally a fan of tofu, she wanted to see how well the chef could prepare a dish she normally would not order. She was ecstatic, and is a new convert to the tofu scene. For dessert, I had the apple trio. Although I enjoyed the entire dish, I was absolutely taken by the pink lady sorbet. Incredibly satisfying and cooling, it was the perfect completion to a wonderful meal. My wife had the crème brulee - one of her favorites. The wine list is exceptional. We chose a French Chardonnay which perfectly complemented the meal. Unfortunately, we missed the train by 5 minutes, so we ended up having to take a cab. We will definitely be back, and we will most likely try to stay in Wellesley so as to avoid the transportation fiasco. This is definitely a dining experience not to be missed.

The dining experience I recently had was wonderful. Each course was delicious. The mussels had a great spicy kick, offset by the salad. The pho was yummy, seafood perfectly cooked and a broth with a savory mix of spices. The cookie treats were a perfect end to the meal, a mix of different sweet treats, perfect to share. The server was top notch; she was at the ready at perfect times, never overbearing. Also we never were made to feel like a pain in the buns with any extra request (ex: bread, more napkins, etc.). My dining companions each loved their meals, as well. Overall a wonderful evening!

We had wanted to eat at Blue Ginger for a long time and finally went for a birthday celebration. It did not live up to expectations or hopes. We got the Butterfish - excellent abd Pork Porterhouse - very good. Service was great, very attentive and helpful. The evening was expensive. Two cocktails, 1 hors d'ouvre, 2 entres, and 2 glasses of wine = $178 (including the tip).

We were expecting a quiet leisurely dinner with ambiance. The food was good, noise level awful, lighting bright, felt we were being hurried through as maitre'd and other staff went around with notepad checking on where diners were in their meal and how long before finished so table could be turned over, our waitress was great, attentive and knowledgeable- we have watched Ming on Cooking Channel for a few years and thought it would be more fine dining

I took my husband here for his birthday on a Tuesday night, the restaurant was packed and offered a vibrant scene for mid-week. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The menu offered a diverse range of appetizers and main course options all of which sounded amazing!!! The seasonal beers were also a big hit with my husband, though the one he wanted was sold out. The presentation of all of our plates was impeccable. We had the carpaccio and a mixed green salad to start, both were prepared perfectly! My husband had the carne asada which had great flavors and just enough kick, I had the lobster fried rice and while the presentation and flavors were amazing, there were bits of shell mixed in with the food :( All in all a great meal!!

This was my third visit. Out-of-town guests insisted we go although I had had a poor previous experience (expensive blah food). My second visit was lunch/outfdoors and was OK, though pricey. This visit the food was not worth the price and one guest had GI distress that night -he had eaten the wasabi salmon. I simply think Ming T's reputation outweighs the relality of the restauarnt.

I have been praising this rest. For a couple of years to my fiance, along with Mings shows. We finally had a chance and reason to come here [ my birthday] so we traveled to here from Groton, Ct.. We both had appetizers, entree and desert, but they did not have that special flavor that i remember. We thought that a cheap candle on a Paper? Covered table took away from any ambiance that Ming originally presented. For $203.00 i was expecting to continue to hail the Blue Ginger as the best restaurant i have ever been to. Jim

For several years, we've enjoyed Blue Ginger's combination of regional specialties with Asian flavors whenever we find ourselves in Wellesley. This visit was no different. My daughter and I each had a seasonal apple salad. She had the chicken in miso; I had a lovely piece of salmon in a ginger/miso teriyaki sauce. Both had terrific Asian-influenced flavors, bright but not overpowering. The waiter was attentive to our food allergy issues. Despite it being a very busy night in Wellesley (3 colleges holding Family Weekend events, and the Head of the Charles Regatta about to open) the kitchen didn't feel strained.

Kudos for the paper on the table which turned the 2 hour experience into an art extravaganza. My son, 8, tried lots of new foods & loved it. There were many options for my non-adventurous 4 year old. Best of all, our food allergies were handled perfectly, which is hard to do. The food was spectacular!

My daughter and I were so excited to go back to Blue Ginger. However it was just okay this time. Nothing much is really new at this restaurant and the menu and actual food seemed "tired". The wine list, while impressive, didn't offer a good range of prices. It was either a $50 bottle of wine or a $200 bottle. The best part of our evening was our glass of champagne in the bar. The bartenders were so friends and the bar itself it so classy. Lines of chilling glass await the most beautiful cocktails.
