Blue Gingerblue gingerGone here a number of times over the years. Wife's dish of crab coated halibut a little dissappointing. My sirloin very good. Mussels appetizer used to have exquisite broth (lime based). They changed it and now just ok. Dessert very good.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGood experienceFirst time at Blue ginger and would go back. With a group of 7 and all lunches were very, very good. Overall a fun and rewarding experience.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistent pleasureAnother very nice evening at Blue Ginger. Ming hits the sweet spot. The food is familiar yet exotic. And that's a combination you don't get often enough.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent and creative diningWe returned to an old favorite after several years. They have not lost a beat. We very much enjoyed the wonderful, and sometimes unexpected, blends of flavors in our lamb and seafood dishes. Dessert was also an interesting, flavorful, eclectic creation.
Serivice was not perfect, but only a tad less than that. Ambiance was very pleasant. We enjoyed being able to look into the kitchen as we dined.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGood but priceyWe always enjoy our meals at Blue Ginger but find some of the entree prices to be very high. The food is well executed but the menu rarely changes so if you like the same dishes over and over, this place is for you.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceI took a dear friend for dinner, and she chose the restaurant. She'd never been to Blue Ginger, and she wanted to try it. I'm sure she'd go again! Through Open Table, I requested a quiet table so we could have some good conversation, and Blue Ginger obliged us very nicely. Our waitperson (Jill) was wonderful: attentive without being invasive; knowledgeable about the wine and dessert drink.
My friend had a terrific birthday celebration, indeed.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique MealsMy family went to Blue Ginger on a busy Friday night. The staff was friendly and attentive. We were impressed with the appetizers and our main courses. Each dish had a unique combination of ingredients: shumai with fois gras and mushrooms, rack of lamb with mole sauce, roast duck with pear/wasabi pure, beef tenderloin with pomegranate corned beef hash. We ate every last morsel! The only criticism were the desserts (creme brulee and the donuts). While they were good, they didn't stand up to the main courses. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and look forward to our next visit.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBlue Ginger Never Fails to DeliverThis was our second visit to Blue Ginger and the food was outstanding. The staff were friendly and helpful. Always enjoy dinner here6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMwish fulfilledThe food was cooked perfectly and served appropriate temperature. Lovely presentation. It was nice to have food that was seasoned well, not have to add salt on top. Service was friendly and timely. Staff always courtious and helpful on the phone.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMYou can't go wrongThis is a favorite restaurant in the Boston area. The casual yet sophisticated atmosphere is only uplifted by the incredible food. Not to mention the attentive wait staff. You just can't go wrong on any night.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGood stuffI was afraid that, with the big name & reputation, it would be a tourist trap but not so. The food was great, creative. Very pricey but that's no surprise. Excellent food.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary dinner was perfectBlue Ginger is such a special place. We had a marvelous anniverary dinner. Everything was perfect.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMDeserves the raves!!Pleasant in every way and excellent, as anticipated, food. We came for a late lunch, arrived after a long drive on a 95-degree day so the quiet and relatively empty restaurant as well as attentive, unhurried service added to our delight.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMStill greatI have been several time to Blue Ginger, restaurant lunch and dinner, brunch, bar side and private venue. Every time the food was surprising, the ambiance relaxing, and the staff knowledgeable, courteous, going beyond expectations and anticipating concerns (e. g. Truely caring about and able to manage food allergies)5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLived up to expectations.Lived up to expectations. Creative menu with well executed dishes. Still find a bit pricey given the other restaurtants in this class.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious. My guestsFood was delicious. My guests were pleased with their choices. Even though it is on the pricy side we did enjoy this kind of special treats every now and then.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSome of the best food we haveSome of the best food we have had. There were 4 in our party and we each order a different appetizer so we could try different dishes and we ordered 2 different main dishes and 2 desserts. All were outstanding. We would definitely return. Thank you.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMHardest working chef/ownerMing Tsai takes his restaurants very seriously. Was at blue dragon for lunch last week and he was there racing around spending quality time with diners. Standing side by side with admiring staff. Very impressive from start to finish. This week dinner at old favorite blue ginger. There he was again doing his thing equally impressive yet distinctively different experience. Wow. I'm a fan5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary DinnerWe are long time fans of both Ming Tsai and Blue Ginger. We've been celebrating anniversaries for several years here and always have a great experience. This year was even more special. We had the opportunity to speak with Ming on the telephone about something but hadn't been in the restaurant at the same time as he was. This night he was there and visited with us at our table. He remembered having spoken with us and was just charming. He personally brought our meals ( Rack of Lamb & Crab encrusted Halibut) to the table and then he checked on us not once but twice.
The food was outstanding, Halibut was the best I ever had and the Lamb was cooked perfectly. Our server, Doreen, was professional, attentive, and knew the menu very well.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFocus on the entrees.I'm not sure why there is so much excitement about the foie gras shumhai (it was a bit boring to me), and my salad was just sad. I found the hot & sour soup to be very salty. However, the tuna appetizer was tasty, as was my butterfish (although my portion was a bit small). My tablemates all seemed to enjoy their duck, lobster & tenderloin. The desserts, while good, were not amazing. The service was solid but not perfect (i.e. my coffee cup remained empty for quite some time, there was never enough cream for the table, etc. The bus-people worked hard.), and the atmosphere was comfortable. I will return, but likely skip the appetizers and perhaps even dessert.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVE IT!This was our 6th time to Blue Ginger - always, without fail the BEST meal we've eaten.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat mealOverall a fabulous meal at Blue Ginger. Nicole, our server was attentive and wonderful. We started with the spring rolls and poke. Both were equally delicious. For a main course, my mom and I had the lobster and my dad and aunt had the halibut. Everyone loved their meals. Can't wait to go back!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe haven't been there in manyWe haven't been there in many months and it was as good as ever. We really enjoyed it.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Salads! We had lunch at Blue Ginger and although it was very difficult not to order the butterfish (absolutely delicious, I order it for dinner EVERY time) but the salad choices were great and did not disappoint. As always, the service, ambience and wine selection were top-notch. The fish taco was good, but (sorry!) the Sole Proprietor in Worcester does it even better!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBGThe noise level can be high. A lot of the tables are to close together, I get it, more tables more $$ in Ming's pocket.
Although the food is great, his signature dish the lobster with garlic and pepper is very pricey ($41.00) for the size of lobster you get. I don't call a 1lb lobster a big portion.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMServiceBlue Ginger is known for its delicious food, beautifully presented. I'n not certain that the wait staff gets sufficient recognition. Our waiter (I apologize that I do not remember his name) was one of the best I have even encountered: attentive, polite, informative, engaging and professional.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperbHave visited Blue Ginger several times over the past year plus since moving to Boston. Terrific restaurant. Excellent food without the narcissistic pretension of many restaurants owned and run by name chefs. Ming Tsai is in a class by himself on TV (rarely uses the "I take MY onions and chop those bad boys (WHY ????) and put them in MY hot pan with MY hands and stir them with MY spoon . . .). The man is pure class, the anti-Guy Fieri, and his restaurant reflects it. I suspect the place is a bit crowded and noisy on weekends but I generally go earlier in the evening on a weeknight and have had nothing but terrific experiences.
The spring rolls with mushrooms and leeks are not to be missed.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBlack pepper - garlic lobster:Black pepper - garlic lobster: execution and presentation was not up to standards and had very little lobster. Other meals seemed to be OK.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMNoisy!Food was outstanding. Expected more ambience and privacy between tables considering the high cost of dinner.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day BrunchThe food was excellent. Chef Tsai was in the house, visiting tables and running the kitchen. Although our waiter was pleasant enough, he completely forgot to put in our order for our appetizers. We were served our main courses first and the appetizer (we declined our second app at that point) arrived in the middle of us finishing our main courses. We received apologies and the appetizer was taken off the bill, but it kind of put a damper on an expensive, special occasion meal.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDining OutThe food was great, but the portions were very small.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFavoriteThe Dining experience at Blue Ginger is always a wonderful experience. Can't wait to get back!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAll the entrees were cookedAll the entrees were cooked to perfection. The Sable fish was outstanding and flavorful. The waitstaff provided excellent service, without being over bearing.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFish tacos and Asian chickenFish tacos and Asian chicken salad were not that impressive5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExemplary food and serviceWe have eaten at Blue Ginger before and expected the food to be adventurous and delicious and we were not disappointed. We have also had wonderful service there. But this particular waitress was far above and beyond. She didn't need to handle our special requests - she anticipated them! No worries about food allergies either. Altogether, it was a special celebratory evening5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNever Blue about Blue GingerThis is maybe the 5th or 6th time we've gone here for a special occasion, just me and my husband, and we love it every time. I had the butterfish and it was fabulous. We also had his famous fried calamari with Thai dipping sauce and we both got dessert. We'd rather spend a lot of money for a food experience than dine out often and have food which is not as good as we make ourselves.
Parking is easy in the rear...Try it if you want really good food served incredibly artistically with some surprise flavors. Probably not the best choice for people with limited palates.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first time atThis was my first time at Blue Ginger. Overall the restaurant was very good. They were very accommodating when we needed to add a person to our party at the last minute. It went a bit down hill with the service after that though. The bartender did not have the best skills around as a sugared martini glass came out sticky from the lime juice. A very 101 thing to not do. The remainder of the service was mediocre and a bit awkward after that. But then the food came out and made everything all right. The food was excellent.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe seafood dishes are deliciousThe seafood dishes are delicious and innovative. The wine list is outstanding. Tables are close together, and the noise level is energetic, so not the spot for quiet conversation.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMHad wonderful lunch. Our firstHad wonderful lunch. Our first lunch there. Always love the dinners. Just about one of the best in the Boston area.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMJust perfect every time, althoughJust perfect every time, although quite pricey. We only can go once in a while but are always happy at Blue Ginger. Wish the menu changed at bit more though...4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMing Tsai: BOS vs SFOMing Tsai should be a little ashamed. He sets out Blue Ginger to be a Guide Mich 3 star; it barely deserves one. The coq au vin was too dry (please try sous vide!), the lobster was better but not spectacular. And the wine indifferent. With tax and tip we paid $200 for two; that's a little overpriced for an American one-star restaurant, but we were splurging for KiJu, a significant birthday (we shared a dessert and an appetizer and an after-dinner wine)so maybe I'm being harsh, but I've had better at Christie Hill in Lake Tahoe for a little more than half the price. In the competition between SFO and BOS, BOS is not winning.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding in all aspects.Outstanding food preparation. My wife says that her New Zealand Rack of Lamb was the best she has ever had! My Scallops were excellent as well. Our waitress was fabulous and attentive without being obtrusive. Perfectly balanced! We are from California and this is the third time that we have dined at this restaurant. We will repeat and repeat and repeat!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary DinnerWe have been going to Blue Ginger for years and have never been disappointed.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AM(Almost) PerfectExcept for a mistake in our meal selection, the overall experience was very enjoyable.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food at Blue Ginger isThe food at Blue Ginger is creatively prepared and consistently good. The service is outstanding!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious and servedFood was delicious and served beautifully. It was a great way to try many dishes! We highly recommend the Blue Ginger4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMperfect!Perfect for our birthday celebration...as always server was knowledgeable and helpful.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Chef/Owner Ming Tsai cameThe Chef/Owner Ming Tsai came to our table to give me a signed menu for my birthday. I was not disappointed. Everything lived up to expectations. Food & service were amazing.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and the staff are the best!Food is outstanding and the staff is even better. We moved to the Boston area 3 years ago and it is by far our favorite place. I also hosted a dinner for 25 people there recently and they did a fantastic job. Many of the guests had never been there and the feedback I received from them was outstanding.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
