A word from Blue Ginger
Blue Ginger, located in Wellesley, is Ming Tsai's award-winning flagship restaurant. This feng-shui inspired space offers three distinct dining options. There's the informal Lounge serving Asian tapas in a more casual setting. No reservations are required in the Lounge. The main dining room features an open kitchen for you to experience mastery at work. The menu features Ming's signature East-West cuisine, including his famous Miso-Sake Marinated Sablefish and Black Pepper Lobster. And lastly, there are three private dining rooms for larger groups or functions wanting to be enjoyed away from the crowd.

The wine list offered a wide selection -- including of half bottles, which we prefer -- and many exceptional values.   • "The restaurant was only about 1/3 full yet the service was very slow. The pork was so overdone that it was edible. However, our waitress only checked on us at the beginning of the service and never checked during the meal to see how it was. When she finally showed up, we told her about it. She offered to make another dish but, truthfully, it was too late. And, we would have expected a show of customer service by offering to buy us coffee but none was made. When the manager came over with the check at the end, there was no apology about the overdone pork. The service and food were seriously lacking. And, there were screaming children in the restaurant that no one working there bothered to address. A truly unpleasant experience!"

Looked pretty...the chef relies on adding fried food to things for flavor and texture, thereby increasing the calorie count pretty substantially....service was excellant. Very expensive. You can have a much better meal elsewhere for a third less...i took someone there for her birthday and was kind of embaressed how average the food was."

  • "This was our fourth visit to Blue Ginger over the last five years or so. It is a hour away, so we usually save it for a special occasion, or take friends who have not been before. Food is excellent. The menu is not big, but all of the choices are special, and you won't find them elsewhere. Prices are expensive, but if you watch it on wine and drinks you can average about $50 - $60 per person. Service on this occasion was professional for a restaurant of this quality, but not exceptional. Ming was not on site and I think we have only seen him there on one occasion. Still, whoever was running the show did a good job. One of the best restaurants in the Boston area."

  • "We live in town and have been to Blue Ginger a number of times of the years but our last visit really made us wonder what was going on. Our dishes (salmon &pork) were ok. Nothing that remarkable and to tell you the truth their are other places in town for less money with just as good or better salmon and pork dishes. The quality has slipped...Ming is never there and there are no specials so the menu runs as is. This use to be a special place to go to and it was half empty Friday night. I'm disappointed because this is my favorite spot in town."

  • "Hard to park...hard to put up wth (Greeter)...made me wait 15+ min, standing up for my party to arrive..no offer of a drink or a seat...ah, Boston, you either love it or put up with it..Blue Ginger is the sort of place locals love/and we "foreigners" find hard to enjoy other than to people watch... eventually, you realize you can't change (them)..it will always be difficult to park...and you'll always have to endure Bostonians if you venture into their "hood"...the owner/chef prob should know his food is "lost"...so, eater beware...unless you just don't care...about what we do! Food was tasty...just enough variety for an enjoyable lunch...no don't drive out from Boston...not worth the trip but if you're in town, worth a lunch once a year."

Four of us had different dinners, with one being a special order, and all were delicious. Their specialty butterfish was indeed wonderful, however a little pricey at $41."

  • "Heard a lot about Blue Ginger and finally went for dinner with family on Saturday night. First impression was that the place was busy and noisy. The deco was dated and didn't say fine dining to us. The service was good and as expected for such as establishment - nice and efficient enough but nothing special. Appetizers were very good but the entrees had a few missteps. Scallops were cooked very well but overall dish was under seasoned. Indonesian curry noodle was nicely spiced and citrusy but is rather "pedestrian" - not interesting. We didn't stay for dessert as we wanted Asian inspired sweets like sago pudding or coconut or lychee ingredients made desserts but there was none. We prefer Blue Dragon."

  • "I'd call the menu "Asian Fusion" although that doesn't seem to do it justice. It's Asian all right, with an emphasis on seafood, but very eclectic, with recipes that will encourage you to try things you didn't think you liked (for example, I don't typically enjoy dishes with curry, but their Indonesian Pasta with curry and two types of shrimp made me want to lick the plate!). Expert service, great wine list, and a see-and-be-seen atmosphere. Is it inexpensive--no! Is it worth it--yes!"

  • "Went for lunch. Almost every menu item had some spicy heat to them. Several Japanese items along with Chinese-inspired. The fish tacos were special with different fish and subtle flavors. On the other hand, the lettuce cups were boring - chicken with veggies in a sauce I've tasted at any other Chinese restaurant. The shiitake springroll appetizers were flavorful. For most of our dishes the fresh ingredients were highlighted but those lettuce cups were over-seasoned with sauce to the point where they seemed flavorless. Glad I tried it out but probably won't be back."

  • "Ming Tsai's signature spot never disappoints. Tuna Poke is amazing I love the great quality tuna on the sticky, crunchy rice cake. Could actually have 2 and call it dinner. the spring rolls have wonderful crunch and flavor. 2 1st timers had the signature Butterfish and lobster and couldn't stop raving. I tried the newer scallop dish which was a delicious combination of flavors and cooked to perfection. Over Kale and Quinoa with baby carrots. Truly the carrots could have been a bit larger and the glaze more prominent but the dish was delightful."

  • "Ancillary service staff is not attentive and needy of training. Expensive. Drinking water has a chlorine taste which forces you to buy bottled water. Table sizes are small relative to large size of service plates making it difficult to maneuver glasses and utensils. Needs intervention to win back its former star quality. Very noisy."

  • "Everything was absolutely great, but...our waitress appeared to be bothered by us. We were two women. Not sure if she found that an issue. If I asked a question about wine or a menu item she either sighed noticeably or had a facial expression to sigh for her. Luckily everyone seemed to share the responsibility of serving as soon as the food was ready. Having waitressed for ten years myself I can appreciate positive interactions with servers and customers. Ours was not. I still tipped her 20% which resulted in justification with my friend who felt I should've made a statement to her. Unfortunately I was afraid this would simply result in worse service from her the rest of the night. "

  • "Overall, the food was great, it was crowded (it was graduation weekend locally), and the food was generally great. The calamari came with aa very salty dipping sauce which we asked to exchange, and we had an issue with one of those custom drinks on the menu. Our server was more of the problem. She seemed annoyed when we sent things back, and she was definitely hurrying us to turn the table. However, other service people were extremely helpful, and I love the setup of the restaurant with the open kitchen."
