A word from Blue Ginger
Blue Ginger, located in Wellesley, is Ming Tsai's award-winning flagship restaurant. This feng-shui inspired space offers three distinct dining options. There's the informal Lounge serving Asian tapas in a more casual setting. No reservations are required in the Lounge. The main dining room features an open kitchen for you to experience mastery at work. The menu features Ming's signature East-West cuisine, including his famous Miso-Sake Marinated Sablefish and Black Pepper Lobster. And lastly, there are three private dining rooms for larger groups or functions wanting to be enjoyed away from the crowd.

"Blue Ginger is unusual, not only because of the food or the room, but because it's a neighborhood restaurant of a type not found too often in the Boston area...those of us who live farther away will just have to travel now that the secret is out." --The Boston Globe

  • "We went for Easter brunch and loved it! They had a Buffett set up with a cold salad area, hot station, omelette made to order, and a dessert area. Everything was amazing! Sticky buns that melt in your mouth! The service was fantastic! I would without a doubt recommend Blue Ginger! We will go back next year if they have it again! "

  • "It has been a year since our last dinner at the Blue Ginger but they are still serving interesting food. Stripped bass and scallops were excellent. "

  • "I am surprised to be saying this but I thought the food was just okay. Poke tuna appetizer was good but not extraordinary. Butterfish was perfectly cooked but flavors were not uniquely good. And the noodle dish with shrimp was just not good. Nothing memorable but my one unusual Thai coconut margarita ( although could have been desert as it was so sweet) and our waitress was absolutely lovely. Food is my hobby and I am a bit of a food snob. My cousin, whose opinion I trust, has been bragging about this restaurant for years though. Perhaps I had an off experience. "

  • "We are from NYC, and first went to Blue Ginger a couple of years after it opened. It was a memorable meal; every dish we ate was innovative, beautifully presented, and the flavors well-balanced. This time around, our admittedly high expectations were dashed. Certain dishes were lackluster, while others were good. My spring rolls tasted like any run of the mill Chinese restaurant's, while my entree (scallops with quinoa) was tasty. My husband enjoyed his app, but was unimpressed by his entree (fried chicken, sloppily presented). Our kids ate off the kids menu, and the greasy deep-fried potstickers and the noodles swimming in soy sauce were disappointments. The food was fine for a casual Asian restaurant, but we expected more from Ming Tsai!"

  • "I have heard so many great things about Blue Ginger. I'm sad to say that I was disappointed. The service was great but the food was just ok. The bread was terrible. For a restaurant of this cost and reputation I would expect better bread. We ordered the spring rolls which were odd and just ok. I ordered the fried chicken with kimchee fried rice and that was better than ok but again for the price I was really expecting something great. It was unique but the dish wasn't great it was just good. I wouldn't go back. "

  • "I have not had dinner at Blue Ginger. But the dinner menu is wonderful, full of interesting-sounding dishes I would like to try. Unfortunately, the lunch menu -- and it was lunch I had there -- reads (as a friend put it) like a list of the "sophisticated dishes" at a hospital cafeteria. Fish tacos? Grilled-chicken caesar salad? Caprese made with deeply out-of-season tomatoes? Who comes to a famously Asian-fusion restaurant to eat these things? (Not a lot of people: The dining room was pretty empty.) The menu was spectacularly lacking in creativity. And the food itself was not much more inspired. My tuna burger had zero zip: The only flavor came from the unpleasantly large chunks of raw ginger in the slaw. Sadly, a fail all around. "

  • "I met an old high school friend for lunch here; he had watched Ming Tsai on TV and was excited to be here. The service was incredible as always, never too much or too little, and very helpful with suggestions when asked. The food was just fine - the bread was an unexpected treat; quite tasty! I am sure we outstayed our welcome, having a lot to talk about, but we didn't feel hustled out."

  • "We have been to Blue Ginger a number of times over at least a decade, and it has maintained its excellent quality for the entire time. The food is unique and interesting, a fusion of contemporary American haute cuisine and Asian, and always well-prepared. The service is attentive and friendly, and the ambiance is pleasant. This is definitely high-end dining, a bit on the formal side."

  • "I would expect better service in an upscale establishment. A client visiting from California specifically requested this restaurant for dinner. He was the one that mentioned the attitude of the staff members. He said that they seemed very unhappy and didn't like being there. 2 of our 4 party took the servers advice and ordered the butterfish - they said it was amazing. someone else ordered the lamb dish - LESS than impressed. the forth person ordered the pork, also less than amazing."

  • "Blue Ginger used to be great. While it's still good, it's not great anymore. Food was over cooked. Service was quite slow."

  • "This is the second time we've been here, and it is still a favorite. We were running on a tight schedule but the staff was able to accommodate us with our timeframe. The service is excellent and the food is delicious, imaginative, and well-presented. We will come back next time we're in Boston."

  • "Sought out Blue Ginger during recent trip to Boston and wanted to experience Ming Tsai. I ordered the tasting menu and was offered a choice of 5 to 10 courses. I decided on 6. Overall I was very pleased but experienced quite a lag between 4th and 5th course. Dessert was a let down. As the evening progressed dining room became more crowded and service not as as attentive. Never the lesswould come again aand just order from menu."

  • "Two dear friends and I had a wonderful meal at Blue Ginger recently - we all loved it. The calamari appetizer was truly exceptional, and everyone liked their entrees and wine very much. We even indulged in two desserts - creme brule and chocolate torte and were blown away. Service was prompt and the atmosphere was lovely. I thought the prices were high - $35 an entree when $26 seemed more reasonable, especially since the portions were not very large. But overall it was a lovely experience. Would love to try for lunch as Wellesley Square is fun to explore and prices are bound to be more reasonable for me."

  • "I love cooking and have learned a lot from Ming Tsai's tv show. I visit Boston a few times a year and this time finally managed a lunch reservation. Our family has a lot of food allergies and Blue Ginger accommodated them. I ordered the sablefish. It was delicate and grilled perfectly. I just wish the serving ssize was bigger. The mussels dish was one of the best we have tried. I loved the coffee which has an unexpected special ingredient. My expectations were really high and the food was on par, but did not exceed. Service was good and met our needs. I thought they could have done slightly better when serving the food. Glad I finally made the trip to Blue Ginger. Thanks, Ming!"

  • "Our mussel appetizer was seasoned with just enough 'bang' to make it unique, interesting and moist to the taste buds. For a main course, the flat iron steak was tender, tasty, beautifully sliced and presented, complimented by a wild mushroom, potato crunch vegetable melange."

  • "I have heard a lot of talk about Blue Ginger from friends but this was my first time at the restaurant. The dining room is large and comfortable - elegant without being overstated. The dinner choices were varied and interesting. This is not like so many new restaurants these days with carbon copy menus. My appetizer (spring rolls) was very good, and my entree (asian noodles and vegetables) was fabulous. There is off street parking in a lot in the back, so you don't have to park on the street. But the entrance is not obvious."

  • "I was somewhat surprised at the ok-ness of the entree - lamb. The dessert, however, was spectacular. The nut tartlet was special."

  • "If you are looking for a special place to take your wife for a birthday, valentines, or anniversary, I highly recommend Blue Ginger. Service was great, food was great, and they even accommodated to my kids and my son's food allergies. The food was great and we did not leave anything left over to bring home. Yes, I hear the price is not worth the quality of the food as I must say the portions were enough to fill you up but the price tag was a little hefty. Like all name brands, you can't get a Louis Vuitton for the price of a Coach. Your paying for a Top Chef menu so don't expect to pay chain restaurant prices. Overall, the family enjoyed the night for my wife's birthday and I would definitely go back for other special occasions."

  • "Blue Ginger, whether you're just having a small bite in the bar or a full dinner in the dining room, never fails to hit the mark in all the right ways. The servers are fantastic, drinks always great, and you can never fault the food!"

  • "My daughter and I made an early reservation and, at 5:30, although we were seated right next to kitchen and aisle and were among the first three parties in the dining room. The meals were fantastic. Salad and wok cooked mussels for appetizers and unbelievable pork chop and butterfish for entrees.Vietnamese cream covered chocolate donuts were great dessert. Premium sake was very smooth. Service was excellent."

  • "I have not been here in years and it was my sisters first time as she has heard about it and wanted to try it . I have to admit from start to finish it was the best meal I have had in 2014 and I have had some pretty good meals."

  • "We have eaten at Blue Ginger several times but I found this time was a little disappointing. I think they made the restaurant week menu very sparse with not a lot of different choices(especially dessert). I found in the past the flavors jumped off the plate but this time the food was good but lacking some of the incredible tastes I have experienced in the past. Service is always good but overall I felt as restaurant week attendees the restaurant tried to cut corners Still an excellent dinner all the same"

  • "Four of us had the prix fixe menu for Dine Out Boston. I chose the mussel appetizer: delicious broth; mussels were unappetizingly slimy. My main was the salmon, which I'm ashamed to say I ordered even after learning it was farmed. As a pescatorian, I resented the "bait and switch" of having to add another $12 for the wild fish dish on the prix fixe menu. And the veggie dish sounded unimaginative at best. Dessert - chocolate pannacotta - was delicous, though the other choice of sesame cakes were dry & spongy. My friend who ordered the chicken main dish, and is also an avid foodie and cook, was similarly disappointed. Overall, for the price, I expected each mouthful to be a delight. Instead, I found the food to be quite un-extraordinary."

  • "Great array of menu options for Boston dine out week. The noodles and fish meal were tasty. Can't wait to head back there with more friends."

  • "it was always crowded, now even more so - barely any room between tables, food mediocre -- dishes that have been on the menu for years taste blah ...disappointing...do NOT recommend. Prices steep, which used to be ok because it was special, but no longer worth it..."

  • "Had a lovely lunch for Dine out Boston and as usual found delicious flavors, textures and colors that are a Blue Ginger Hallmark. Everything was excellent and inspired much discussion on 'how'd they do that' with their nuanced and unique flavor approaches. Always enjoy the new twists they have to offer. Thanks for another great meal."

  • "We ate at Blue Ginger during restaurant week and even with the special pricing the bill was over $120 for two people. I can see this establishment being over $200 for two people if you add a nice bottle of wine. I guess if you have a special occasion it would be good, but for just a Friday or Saturday night out it's kind of overpriced now. Granted the food is good, but I am not sure 6 ounces of butterfish (their signature dish) justifies a $41 price tag. I also found it kind of what I call "stuffy", as in not too much fun. There are increasingly better alternatives nearby. Also being Wellesley, you can't just go to bar and order a drink. You must buy some food. The town does not permit anything that could be classified as a bar."

  • "Good food, but very pricey (overpriced), even with the restaurant week menu."

  • "Two couples went to Blue Ginger for dinner during Restaurant Week. Two chose options from the Restaurant Week menu and the other two people made choices from the regular menu. All choices were absolutely fabulous. The hostess and the server were extremely pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. We had a wonderful dining experience. Restaurant week may have brought us to the restaurant, but we have added this to our list of favorite restaurants and will be back soon and often."

  • "The menu offered at Blue Ginger was varied enough to satisfy the veggies in our group! Fantastic mussels and wonderful salmon and refreshing arugula salad! The food here is very consistent and the atmosphere is great! Service is attentive too. If you haven't been you should go!"
